I feel the same way about this that I do about Disintegration by The Cure: Every song is excellent, the vibes are consistent, but its just really long. I gotta dig deeper into the second half. I am very impressed by everything: the vocals, the riffs, the drumming, the spoons, etc. Sequencing could be a little bizarre with the 2 interlude tracks in the last third of the album, but I gotta listen more. Wow.

Even off the first song I could tell this wasn't something I was going to like. The production is weirdly top heavy, so these songs feel like they have no body to them. The rapping has aged terribly. The guitar lines are repetitive and annoying. The bass playing and drumming were both good but the way they were mixed made them sound so unsatisfying to me. There was no way I was going to sit through 73 minutes of this. NR

This is some of the best guitar work I have ever heard. The sounds these guys make and the grooves they settle into are unlike anything I've come across. The drummer is also a machine, I don't think a human being could drive songs structured this way. I think my score could go as high as a 10 on further listens, I just hit a lull in the second half. The first 4 songs I was dialed, the 3 shorter ones kinda lost me, and the final song blew me away. I think revisiting those songs will ... read more
Some sick production moments all over this album and some really hard hitters. The way she sings over these definitely makes the song either way better or way worse. This also felt way longer than 41 minutes due to how repetitive some of the songs get. Overall a good album, but not one I'm going to be itching to return to outside of my favorites.

This whole album was a series of "oh I know this one" moments from front to back. Has a bunch of my favorite beatles songs, but a few I've always thought were just decent. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.

Way shorter (although it doesn't feel short) and better than I remember. A truly visionary batch of songs. Sequencing is great, lots of my favorites from the Beatles are on here. I cant express how much I love that Tomorrow Never Knows is the closer.

Very nostalgia-driven album for me. I know a lot of these songs by heart and it was fun to go back and listen to them in context of the album. Other than the title track and reprise, I don't really see a concept tying these songs together, which is different than what I was expecting, but I like all the songs on here. My album rating might seem low compared to the track ratings, and I don't really have a good reason for that, maybe just because Abbey road and Revolver are both albums ... read more
This is one of the most important albums in my life. I grew up hearing these songs all the time around the house and in the car. My parents would sing these to me when I was little. It's cool to revisit this album and nostalgiamaxx. Also the songs still hold up even almost 60 years later, and the sequencing is excellent. The medley still goes crazy.

Given what I've heard from Beck prior to this listen (Odelay), this was a lot more country-ish than I was expecting. Pristine production from Godrich. Very consistent, except the last 3 track are my least favorites. I'm not in love with Beck as a vocalist on here, but he gets the job done. I want to relisten to this already.

I was so not aware of your game. I cannot believe this came out in 1967. Definitely deserves all the praise it gets. I thought the pacing was excellent, Lou's vocals sound great on my ears, Nico does her thing, guitar/bass/drum/viola work is crazy. 1967????????????

This whole album is shrouded in this thick, lonely atmosphere that feels smothering at times. The bustling beats are like the movement of cars and people on the streets of London during a rainy night. It is very consistent. I almost felt like I was listening to the same song over and over, even though the drum patterns and vocal melodies were different. An excellent nighttime soundtrack.

I have a lot of problems with this album. It starts off brilliantly with the first 6 songs or so; lush, vibrant arrangements with a very unique timbre. I've never heard anything like it. After this, the quality drops off dramatically. Every song after that has just blended together in a mush of half-baked instrumentals, with the occasional stroke of brilliance like on I Felt Your Shape, Samurai Sword, and I am Bored. Probably 15 minutes of this album is just that foghorn noise. I know its ... read more
Everything about this is amazing. The basslines, Robert Smith's voice, the effects-soaked guitars, the enormous drums, etc. Everything comes together to make a very cohesive and immersive listen. My only complaint is that the midsection has all my least favorites, and when an album is this long any sort of lull is especially taxing. The ending really brings the emotion and energy back up for me.

I love this album's concept, and I think the way it is explored through these synthetic soundscapes is genius. The first few songs are good, but a decent percentage of their best songs are all next to each other in the middle of the tracklist. Definitely loses its edge near the end, but I still love it. Bonus points for nostalgia

A candidate for the most front loaded album of all time. I think out of the first 5 songs, 4 of them are some of the greatest electronic songs ever made. No hyperbole, those songs changed my life. They set me on a path to artists that make similar music, which led me to the IDM rabbit hole and to RYM and AOTY from there. In the context of the album they create such an immersive, clean, and contemplative atmosphere, and I love when Green Calx completely suplexes that pensive feeling. After this, ... read more
An absolute masterclass of pacing and contrast, with very grimy moments balanced with beautiful and ethereal ones. This album eases up and presses down at just the right times. Dark enough to be serious, and light enough to be fun. I loved revisiting this album and I got so much more out of it than I did in high school. Huge 10 potential here.
