Not a very catchy album. Id definitely need to be in a certain mood to really have fun listening to this. The individual songs are good, but listening to 11 of them at once is definitely too much. Handily my least favorite album I've heard from them.

Track 1: one of the best shoegaze songs of all time. 10
Track 2: I think I prefer this song as the opener, even though I like it less. 7 or 8
Track 3: The breaks with just the guitar go stupid. 8

Yeah so this album is fucking wild and crazy. I think I enjoy it more as an artifact of its time than as an album experience though. It has its incredible moments and it has a few misses. There is lots to unpack here and its gonna take a while for me to get to the bottom of this. I got crazy nostalgia on some songs which I loved. Glad I finally got around to giving this record a full listen!

Generational album. The vibes, speeds, and transitions on these songs really make for a singular cohesive experience that was probably years ahead of its time. It felt a little too homogenous at times for my liking, but I can't deny its staying power and Marvin's incredible vocal performances.
Favorites: Title track, mercy mercy me, inner city blues
Didn't feel like track reviews work on here. Pick any song on here and its gonna be excellent.
(50->70) Some excellent highlights and basically no lowlights but as a whole album this thing is daunting. Reminds me of Songs in the Key of Life a little bit, in that both albums were spearheaded by one guy exploring a genre inside and out and flexing their songwriting skills along the way. Glad I revisited this one.

This is a cheat code to make you move. 9 completely watertight performances with enough funk and quirk to feed generations. Only one song I'm not in love with, but I'd argue it enhances the songs around it. Overall, its one of the funnest albums I've ever heard.

Track 1: Synth solo goes insane. Excellent opener. 9 or 10
Track 2: It's stupid how groovy this song is. Top five Heads song. 10
Track 3: Water synth drum thing is so tuff. 9 or 10

You will never catch me listening to this and that other album that youre supposed to play at the same time. If Neurosis wanted them listened to together, then put them on the same damn album. This album sounds a little minimal and thin at times, but that might just be me knowing that the other instruments are on a different fucking CD somewhere. I dunno the whole 2 albums at the same time thing rubs me the wrong way, but I still loved this record
First listen in 2 years or so. Overall better than I remember. Empathy especially grew on me. The last half of disc 2 still feels like uncharted territory
