hi please stop following me on here please go follow this super cool internet person @willowsfields instead. she seems cool! i just wish she'd stop posting reviews about how sad she is and get back to reviewing the new mgk album
Hello all, so I've been thinking about this for a while and I've been sort of preparing for it over the past few days but I think now is probably a better time than ever to I guess sort of "announce it" but uhh I'm moving accounts. In the grand scheme of things this will change very little and honestly is not as big of a change as it might sound, I'm simply going to be using another account for my reviews from now on so if you want to continue reading these things I guess follow me ... read more
Here's my thing with this album: I don't think it's all that bad. In fact, I was really enjoying it for the first few tracks, however, I kinda feel like the vibe of it all kinda wears off quickly which is why I tend to avoid lo-fi hip hop releases just in general. They're good as like songs in a playlist or in a livestream or something, but when I actually have to pay attention to the music it just kinda gets tired and dull after a while. I also didn't really care for the vocals, but they were ... read more
While I liked this album overall, I thought it had a few issues with it that did hold it back for me. To start with the positives, I really liked the instrumentals here. They're very pleasant and calming, just very nice. I also really liked the lyrics here and thought they were really well written overall, albeit a bit too repetitive for my taste at points. In terms of negatives, I just... didn't really care for Faye's voice? It's kinda sleepy and faint and doesn't really do much for me, and as ... read more
ok so it's like the light music club from k-on but this time instead of playing light music they play noise rock and punk music
Something about the fact that this is a live recording just helps the songs on here come out in such a raw and beautiful way. Jeff's guitar playing is impeccable, and his voice singing whatever weird, nonsensical shit he decides to sing about on the tracks here just speak to my soul in a way that I can't fully describe. I smiled throughout the great majority of this record, it's just so beautiful and human. Parts made me laugh, parts made me smile, and other parts made me sit back and just ... read more
I did go in wanting to really enjoy Extraordinary Machine considering this album generally gets a lot of hate from fans as being her worst record, and I really like the cover art, but man this thing just really is her worst from every angle I look at it. I like a lot of the ideas here, specifically in the instrumentals, there are many tracks here with these very grand and explosive instrumental sections some of which almost sound like something out of a Disney movie in a good way, however they ... read more
While I think Doolittle is pretty far from being some sort of alt-rock masterpiece, it is still a really fun record. There's some great guitarwork on display here, and unlike many people I didn't take issue with the vocals here at all. In fact, I actually really like them and I think they give the album a lot of character. I'll definitely be listening through the tracks on here for a while and hopefully my score will go up a bit over time, but yeah, it's just a really fun time overall, ... read more
Joni has a pretty voice, and the lyrics are consistently really well written. That's about it
Fuck. Yes.
I don't know how the hell I've made it to over 500 AOTY ratings and I still somehow haven't managed to get around to Kate Bush's Hounds of Love in all that time, but y'know what I finally checked it today and yeah it's fucking amazing ok? Kate has such a uniquely powerful voice and delivery, and the fact that she managed to write and produce this entire album on her own is just a testament to what a talented and incredible figure she is in pop music. Also yes, I know it's obvious but ... read more
Songs Of Leonard Cohen is an album so gentle and fragile that it's almost overwhelmingly beautiful at points. Cohen's voice is warm and comforting, and the instrumentation here is gentle and sweet, making for a listen that is almost impossible not to enjoy to some extent. For me, it's albums like this that make me happy that I listen to music as much as I do. Stuff like this makes me happy to be alive, and that's something truly special. I do still have issues with this and often some of the ... read more
Okay so this is just my first listen through and this is a really long and complex and just.. powerful album, and as a result trying to write an "initial thoughts" type review is very difficult. All I'll say for right now is this: I absolutely love the concept and lyrical topics explored throughout this album, I think Mother I Sober is one of his best songs in years, and while it did take me a bit to come around to the sound of this record and there were a few points where I thought ... read more
so new RiskR single.. it’s amazing.
In terms of artistic progression goes it’s always interesting and fun to watch with Kate’s music, looking back on some of her previous EPs it’s easy to recognize that she had some fantastic ideas, but the production wasn’t quite there yet for those ideas to feel fully fleshed out. This is exactly what I was hoping for from this new dnb type sound, the production here is easily the best of any song RiskR has ever done and its ... read more
Hooooly shit. So... this is, like, a big deal. Like, a really big deal. So much so that doing a small little meme review on my singles account didn't feel appropriate, and I want to actually talk about this. I really liked this, I don't like it as much as some of MCR's older stuff, but it's still solid. I can definitely see this growing on me as this song does show a much darker and more mature side of MCR's music, focusing less on theatrical elements and more on just being a very dark and loud ... read more
Although it definitely goes without saying at this point, this is a very well made instrumental hip-hop album. The transitions are seamless and encourage the listener to listen the whole way through rather than choosing to listen to one specific song, and it is definitely an album that is meant to be experienced front to back. The structure is great and the production is obviously awesome as well. With that being said though, I do still feel that the second half kind of drags a bit for me and ... read more
Even though ultimately I did find a few tracks on here that I thought were relatively good, I honestly kind of fail to see what makes Jeffery such a standout project to some people. There are some cool beats and instrumentals here I guess? There are some good flows here and there? For me though this whole project just came across as super generic and really unexciting. The heavy reliance on auto-tune got annoying quickly and there were a few points here where it just sounded awful, and on top ... read more
Without going into too many personal details, this record helped me a lot. Glitch Princess is exactly the kind of album I've needed recently, and I'm glad I heard it when I did even if I am... three months late. But yeah, this thing is great, certainly better than yeule's debut was. I thought their sound had a lot of potential that was yet to really be explored on Serotonin II, and Glitch Princess pretty much served as everything I could've hoped for and so much more. Glitch Princess is not a ... read more
Y'all are wrong about this one, seriously, listen to this again!
Utopia is such a mesmerizing work. Featuring some of Björk's most beautiful and majestic compositions and soundscapes, this record manages to feel both large and expansive, and quiet and subtle. Utopia captures the beautiful and calming feeling of nature just as easily as it manages to whisk me away to another world entirely, while Björk effortlessly entrances me with every single line of this album. The sound of this is ... read more
