A record of high acclaim, and for good reason, Honky Chateau is a great album.
Favorites: Rocket Man, Salvation, Slave, Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters
Elton John continues to be incredibly consistent, delivering another great album here.
Favorites: Tiny Dancer, Levon, Madman Across The Water, Indian Sunset, Holiday Inn, All The Nasties
A fantastic here from Elton John, as the legend begins to development into a Pop superstar.
Favorites: Ballad Of A Well-Known Gun, Come Down In Time, My Father's Gun, Amoreena, Burn Down The Mission
Elton's signature style takes a leap on his second record leading to a great album here.
Favorites: Your Song, Border Song, The Greatest Discovery, The Cage, The King Must Die
A pretty good debut album for how would become a legendary artist, Empty Sky is a solid record. The only thing that I can even somewhat compare John's sound to is Billy Joel, as Elton has a style that I have yet to come across prior to this record. There are several great songs off of this LP, namely with Val-Hala, Hymn 2000, Lady Samantha, and It's Me That You Need. The downside of this record, if there is any, is that there isn't any particular standout track. While that is ... read more
Another great album from MGMT here, almost topping Little Dark Age. Andrew VanWyngarden and company are seasoned at this point, and a record of this quality is no surprise to me, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as their sustained quality through the years speaks for itself. After an introductory track with Loss of Life (part 2), we get the first great song of the record with Mother Nature, a song about the troubles and hardships of love as well as marriage. We get another great ... read more
A fantastic album, Little Dark Age is my personal favorite MGMT album to this point in their musical career. This record is simultaneously a continuation of their past sound and an expansion on that same sound. MGMT takes a darker, more cynical approach this record, with darker themes being present throughout several of the tracks. The record starts off with a bang with She Works Out Too Much, a song about a man and a woman losing their relationship due to a disagreement on working out. ... read more
A very intriguing record, although it may be their worst to this point, that I would say is still pretty good. This record is incredibly experimental, and, naturally, as a drawback of that, some of these more experimental tracks don't hit like a normal MGMT song due to a lack of lyrical or musical substance. With that being said, a lot of this record is very solid in my opinion. My personal favorites off of this LP were Introspection, Your Life is a Lie, A Good Sadness, and An Orphan Of ... read more
An improvement from their already great debut project, MGMT expands on their sound on Congratulations delivering another great album here. The group morphs more into their own sound here, and with that you can hear even more of their influences throughout parts of this project. Two prominent ones that I thought of were The Beatles and The Beach Boys, the latter especially with certain songs on the record being in that tropical Indie Surf vibe. The record starts off strong with It's ... read more
It's nice to finally listen to good music again, and MGMT absolutely delivers here with a great album. MGMT is a band that wears their influences on their sleeves, with shades of Queen and Radiohead all throughout this project with a special flair of Psychedelic Pop Rock added to it. While MGMT is pretty easily comparable to these other bands in regards to sound similarity, they still sound like their own special, unique thing, something that is pretty special for any artist or band to ... read more
While it is a drop off in quality from TEC and Plan A, Dopamine is still an average and almost decent album. As far as what I didn't like about the record, I thought several tracks were too short for Tecca to actually properly deliver. I also felt that some beats on certain songs were lackluster and didn't compliment Tecca's flows very well. However, I did like a decent bit of this record, with my personal favorite songs being Dark Thoughts and OWA OWA. I also liked some of ... read more
Far worse than the first iteration, Donda 2 is a horrendous album. This album feels unpolished, unappealing, and unfinished in a way that not even Vultures 1 or 2 are in my opinion. This record just has absolutely nothing going for it. There are no songs off this LP that I would want to hear again, hell, there are only 3 songs I would even say are half decent. There is absolutely nothing memorable about this record, with boring beats and boring instrumentals throughout the entire record. ... read more
A good bounce back project for The Game, coming in with a decent album after some recent lackluster performances. I think it is definitely a shame this record isn't any longer, as I would've loved to have gotten a bigger sample size of the trio of Big Hit, The Game, and Hit-Boy. There were a couple of good songs off of this record, with those being Paisley Dreams and Crisis in my opinion. Although The Game and Big Hit are solid on this project, easily the biggest star of this ... read more
While there are some solid moments throughout the record, there are more questionable moments that cause this album to be mediocre at best. As far as the good of this LP, there were a decent bit of good songs, with No Smoke at the Polo Lounge, No Man Falls, Rubi's Rose, Nikki Beach, and A Father's Prayer. With that being said, I would hope there would be some good songs in here considering that this album is nearly 2 hours long and has 30 songs on it. There are some very boring and ... read more
A long, very mixed bag of a record here that ultimately ends up being just about average. One of the best things that I can say about this record is that it held my attention until the end, something that I haven't been able to do on records I've rated higher than this. That isn't to say that there aren't any uninteresting songs on the record, with several stretches of rough performances from The Game and company, particularly one at the start of the record. With that ... read more
Finally back on a decent trajectory again, The Game comes through with a decent record on this project. While there isn't necessarily anything incredibly special about this record, there is a consistent quality of solid music throughout the project, something that has been dearly missed on Game's mixtapes during this time. Despite a bad start, the record really picks up on the back half, with a very strong showing, featuring songs like Baby You, and What Your Life Like. The Juice ... read more
A pretty bare bones record from The Game with little to no replay value here. As far as the good of this record there are a couple of decent beats here and there as well as decent performances on certain songs, but certainly no stand out tracks or performances here. The only other good thing that I can say about this record is that it was pretty short, so I didn't really have to suffer through this record in any way. There is just nothing interesting about this record. The Game sounds ... read more
A pretty mediocre project that seems pretty thrown together here. Admittedly, For The Homies is a great song and a standout on this record, and there are also some solid moments throughout some of the tracks here. It's also nice that this is a pretty short project, so it doesn't overstay its welcome in a way that would be a detriment to the record. However, there isn't anything particularly interesting about this record outside of the one song. It's the same boring fake ... read more
A much more consistent record than Documentary 2, the Documentary 2.5 works as a better version of the previous in the series, with this one being a good album. The Game is in much better personal form on this record than his past couple ones, and while he doesn't get as big of a boost from his features as he usually does, a better showing from him definitely gives the record more of a boost quality wise. He seemed a lot more interested in this record as well, as gone are the songs where ... read more
Somewhat of a return to form for The Game after some subpar projects, The Documentary 2, while it doesn't match the first in quality, it is still lives up to the name and is a decent project. As far as what holds back this record, there are a few songs on this record where The Game seems bored and uninteresting, especially at the start of the record. There was a rough patch in there that had me worried that this record would just be more of the same uninspired rap that The Game had been ... read more
