Anderson .Paak - Oxnard
81

Coming off the critically acclaimed Malibu, Anderson .Paak had high expectations to meet, and Oxnard proves once again why he’s one of the most dynamic artists in the game. While it might not always reach the hights and depth of Malibu, it more than makes up for it with sheer energy, playfulness, and a star-studded lineup that elevates the whole experience. This album feels like a celebration—of success, of artistry, of life itself. It’s bigger, bolder, and more ambitious, ... read more

Rae Sremmurd - SR3MM
73

With SR3MM, Rae Sremmurd delivers a high-energy, hit-packed album that encapsulates everything fans love about them. While this project is part of a triple-disc release—featuring Swae Lee’s Swaecation and Slim Jxmmi’s Jxmtro—the duo’s collaborative disc stands as a testament to their chemistry and knack for making infectious party anthems.

At just nine tracks, SR3MM is concise and efficient, cutting straight to the bangers without any filler. The album kicks off ... read more

Nipsey Hussle - Victory Lap
78

Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap truly lived up to its name, serving as a triumphant moment in his career and, unfortunately, his final studio album before his tragic passing. It’s an album that feels like the culmination of years of grinding, independent hustle, and personal growth. With Victory Lap, Nipsey delivered his most refined and focused project, balancing raw street narratives with motivational gems that reflected his entrepreneurial mindset and community-driven ... read more

SAINt JHN - Collection One
74

SAINt JHN’s debut album Collection One is an impressive introduction to his blend of trap and R&B. The record has a distinct dark, atmospheric vibe, which permeates throughout, creating a moody yet captivating atmosphere. SAINt JHN’s voice is deep and smooth, adding a layer of richness that makes the album easy to listen to from start to finish. His delivery is relaxed, almost hypnotic, making it the perfect backdrop to his introspective lyrics.

The album is packed with bangers ... read more

Slim Jxmmi - Jxmtro
54

As the third disc of SR3MM, Jxmtro serves as Slim Jxmmi’s chance to step into the spotlight on his own. While his energy and charisma have always been a strong complement to Swae Lee in Rae Sremmurd’s duo dynamic, his solo effort unfortunately doesn’t quite reach the same level of consistency or impact.

That’s not to say there aren’t enjoyable moments here. Tracks like Brxnks Truck and Anti-Social Smokers Club have the signature hype and energy you’d expect ... read more

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 2
57

With Lil Boat 2, Lil Yachty recapture some of the energy that made his early work fun. While it’s an improvement over Nuthin’ 2 Prove, it still suffers from many of the same issues that have plagued Yachty’s projects—uneven performances, uninspired songwriting, and a lack of real standout moments.

The album does have its highlights. Tracks like Count Me In, NBAYOUNGBOAT, and 66 bring some of the bouncy, playful energy that Yachty is known for. The production is solid, ... read more

Jeremih & Ty Dolla $ign - MihTy
50

When you see Jeremih and Ty Dolla $ign teaming up for a full collaborative project, it seems like a no-brainer. Both artists have smooth voices, and their individual catalogues include some solid R&B cuts. MIH-TY does deliver on some of those expectations, bringing a mix of laid-back, seductive, and club-friendly tracks, but it also falls into the trap of being one-note and repetitive. And in the end, it was a pretty dull and uninteresting listen.

The album shines when the duo leans into ... read more

Wiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers 2
54

Wiz Khalifa returns with Rolling Papers 2, a sequel to his breakout 2011 album, but instead of recapturing the magic of his early days, he delivers a bloated, inconsistent project. At a staggering 25 tracks and nearly 90 minutes long, the album feels more like a playlist than a cohesive body of work. There are some undeniable bangers and flashes of vintage Wiz, but there’s also a fair amount of filler that drags the album down.

When Wiz is in his element, he still knows how to craft ... read more

Gunna - Drip Season 3
46

Drip Season 3 sees Gunna continuing to develop his signature melodic trap style, but while the project has its moments, it ultimately falls short of standing out in an oversaturated genre. Coming up under the mentorship of Young Thug and being a key figure in the Atlanta rap scene, Gunna has all the elements to craft an engaging trap album. However, despite a handful of enjoyable moments, Drip Season 3 feels more like background music than a fully compelling project.

There are a few highlights ... read more

Måneskin - Il ballo della vita
50

Måneskin’s debut album Il Ballo della Vita showcases the band’s youthful energy and their ability to blend rock, funk, and pop influences into a stylish, modern sound. The album captures their raw charisma, which later propelled them to international fame, and features some undeniably catchy songs. However, while it has its moments, it also leans heavily on influences that make it feel more like an imitation rather than something truly original.

Tracks like Torna a casa and ... read more

Future & Juice WRLD - Future & Juice WRLD Present... WRLD ON DRUGS
50

Back in 2018, the collaboration between trap heavyweight Future and rising star Juice WRLD felt like a moment. Juice was blowing up off the success of Lucid Dreams, and Future was still riding the wave of his prolific trap run. On paper, WRLD ON DRUGS had the potential to be something special—melding Juice’s melodic, emo-infused style with Future’s seasoned trap expertise.

And to be fair, the two have chemistry. Tracks like Fine China and Realer N Realer highlight how their ... read more

Charlie Puth - Voicenotes
50

I’ve never really been a big fan of Charlie Puth, and Voicenotes doesn’t do much to change that opinion. While it’s clear that he’s a talented musician with an ear for catchy melodies, the album as a whole just feels too polished, too safe, and often too corny for its own good. It leans heavily into an ’80s-inspired pop sound with some R&B influences, but rather than feeling fresh or exciting, it comes off as predictable and, at times, uninspired.

That being ... read more

Quavo - QUAVO HUNCHO
50

As the frontman of Migos, Quavo had already solidified himself as one of the most recognisable voices in modern trap music. So when QUAVO HUNCHO dropped, expectations were high. Could he carry a full project on his own without Offset and Takeoff? The answer, unfortunately, is a mixed one.

There are definitely some enjoyable moments on the album. Tracks like Workin Me, Bubble Gum, and Lamb Talk showcase Quavo’s signature melodic flow and knack for catchy hooks. The production is polished, ... read more

Ronnie Flex - NORI
60

With NORI, Ronnie Flex takes a clear step into the trap-influenced side of his sound, moving away from the more eclectic and pop-infused style he had previously explored. The result is an album that is energetic and fun at times but doesn’t always offer much depth or standout moments.

There are definitely enjoyable cuts on NORI. Tracks like Fan and 4/5 bring catchy hooks and strong production, while Non Stop carries that melodic sound that makes Ronnie Flex such a unique artist in the ... read more

Tory Lanez - LoVE me NOw
49

Following Memories Don’t Die, Tory Lanez returns with LoVE me Now, a project that leans heavily into mainstream appeal, packed with features and catchy hooks. It’s clear that Lanez was aiming for more bangers this time around, and in that regard, he succeeds—at least partially.

The album contains some fun, high-energy tracks that work well in the club or on a party playlist. Songs like Talk to Me with Rich the Kid and Keep in Touch with Bryson Tiller stand out as highlights, ... read more

Lil Baby - Drip Harder
45

When Drip Harder dropped in 2018, it felt like the perfect link-up between two of Atlanta’s rising stars. Lil Baby and Gunna had undeniable chemistry, and their melodic trap sound was fresh, riding the wave of their individual successes. Tracks like Drip Too Hard became instant anthems, solidifying their status in the game.

Listening to it now, though, the album doesn’t quite hit the same. The beats are solid, and their flows are smooth, but much of the project feels repetitive and ... read more

Lil Yachty - Nuthin' 2 Prove
46

Nuthin' 2 Prove is a project that feels like it doesn’t have much to say or offer. The album comes across as lifeless and uninspired, with little to make it stand out in the crowded trap scene. Lil Yachty’s performances on this project feel unfocused, and the tracks themselves don’t bring anything fresh to the table. Instead, it’s a series of generic beats and forgettable lyrics, leaving listeners wondering why it was even made in the first place.

While there may ... read more

XXXTENTACION - SKINS
42

SKINS is the first posthumous release from XXXTENTACION, and while it doesn’t reach the lows of his later posthumous album Bad Vibes Forever, it still struggles with a sense of incompleteness. As a whole, the album feels like a collection of half-finished ideas rather than a fully realised artistic vision. There are moments of potential, but many of the tracks don’t feel like they were meant to be heard in their current state, lacking the polish that his fans were accustomed to ... read more

Kraantje Pappie - DADDY

From the album title, to the cover, to the music. Everything about this album is just bad. Just lacks any substance or excitement.

Bizzey - November

Laughably bad. Just horrendous.

"@TheNevermeant 100%, he got way too comfortable on this album, it just feels like a bunch of leftovers sticked together rather than something new and creative. And I get what you’re saying about the wider scene too, there’s definitely a lot of hip hop artists that don’t really push boundaries anymore on their latest albums and just stick to what already works because it still sells. I mean, most of their fanbase will still swallow it. Hopefully that trend gets broken through soon, because it will only further devaluate the quality of music (at least in the mainstream)."
