wait, a review??

yeah i haven't done one of these in a while, i have fell out on doing music reviews. they are nice to do but sometimes you feel as if you're just screaming your opinions into the void. if you somehow stumble upon this review, thanks. i've also noticed i've gotten a lot of followers over the last few months despite me not being really active (probably because of the fb thing in my profile lol) which surprises me. i'll try to become more active as i'm trying to hear more music ... read more

65? this is cool!!
the thing that stands out from this record is actually what isn't on it, which is Ride's delivery. yes, of course this album could get better with it, but this album is one that is better appreciated if you just listen to it like a weird intrumental edm record that just so happens to be made by Death Grips. that's how i did it, and i thoroughly enjoyed it! sure, this record can be less memorable than their former ones due to the lack of lyrics or real stand out moments, but i ... read more

this shit is not worth an actual review. so i will just regurgitate what i said on twitter:
"terrible release strategy to drop this the moment your entire demographic is at their least active (back to school season)

Death Grips - No Love Deep Web

very unique album we have here. compared to The Money Store, this album has much more minimal production, and is more focused on the low-end. i guess you could say the beats are, hehe... deep!! (i need to kill myself)
but really, the empty feeling this album conveys, with the (mostly) minimalistic beats, Ride being more audible than usual, and the intense lyrics make for a dark listen. doesn't mean this album doesn't go hard as fuck though! No Love is the obvious stand out, Zach Hill's drumming ... read more

conclusion:
so, how do i feel about the two discs as one whole album? well, it's quite good, but it can feel a little jarring with both sides having very different sounds. Jenny Death is the better half for me, although African-Americans Located On The Natural Satellite That Us Humans Know As The Moon has some gems on it.

Death Grips - Jenny Death

disc 2:
yeah this is MUCH more like it.
Death Grips did it! they fully embraced punk rock and the results are unsurprisingly amazing! i love the more defined guitar and how the drums are placed into the mix, they really hit you hard in the face with them throughout the disc. MANY highlights, like the IBMWMFITUS, Inanimate Sensation, Turned Off (โ€ผ๏ธ), Why A Bitch Gotta Lie, and, of course, On GP, a gut wrenching track about Stefan embracing suicide to escape from it all.
also, some thoughts ... read more

disc 1:
WOW this was different.
Death Grips go all in with the weird beats and Björk samples, if their plan was to make the most confusing, abstract album possible, then it's safe to say they succeeded.
it's good. it works, but besides a few songs i sadly don't think i will come back to this much. some tracks i didn't like too much, but that's how it is i guess...

Death Grips - Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix)
91

this is the most INSANE death grips release so far for me currently. this ep is like a bullet train that not only doesn't stop but just keeps getting faster and faster, it's just so HYPE!!!

Death Grips - Death Grips

the inception of Death Grips, and it sounds as raw as it gets!! i only listened to the ep exclusive tracks, since half of this ep's songs went to Exmilitary, and they were very good! Death Classic is definitely the best one, with that pummeling drum pattern, and great unconventional flow from MC Ride, but i was also a fan of Face Melter, with its weird sampling, and Next Grips, with that menacing guitar. (which i'm guessing is a sample)
great project, don't miss out on it!

my bloody valentine - loveless

stared into a fan the whole time i listened to this, call that shit FANGAZE!! see!? i can make dumb genre names of my own if want to!!

ok but for real, this album is pretty sweet, very well aged and has some nice consistency.
i also felt Nice listening to this, just thought about my life and where i want to go from now, especially since i'm at the eleventh grade and about to go to college. (so nervous!)
this album was a pretty fitting soundtrack, it helps that it Fucks really hard as well ... read more

edit: gee willikers this has grown on me!!!!!
death grips come through with an aggressive album filled with tons of samples and overall unconventional production. and if that isn't enough, add to that fierce vocal performances and incredible lyricism.
however you put it, the raw, primal energy of this album is simply undeniable!

edit: 90>94 FUCK IT this shit is awesome

lived up to the hype. what an incredibly varied tracklist, filled with bangers only, some tracks aren't that great, but still, i VERY MUCH enjoyed it. i love mc ride's flow and the insane beats filled with weird as fuck sounds that i can see still surprising me even in repeated listens. will definitely grow on me even more.

Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
90

my first impression of death grips! incredibly noisy and chaotic hip-hop/synth-punk record with insane drumming and fierce vocal performances from MC ride. one of my favorite moments is in "Hot Head", when that distorted "NYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOUUUUUGGGH" sound starts ramping up. i'm not fully sure if i get it as much as other people do, but i definitely enjoyed it!

Depeche Mode - Violator
88

dark and atmospheric synthpop record with excellent production and powerful hooks. i love the sharp synths and the punchy drums. for a genre that was on its way out at the time, this is definitely some of the best work i've heard from it. unlike most of synthpop, the album doesn't sound outdated and actually sounds somewhat futuristic, which is quite a feat.

Tom MacDonald - Renegade
NR

NEVER BEEN AFRAID TO SAY WHAT'S ON MY MIND AT ANY GIVEN TI- oh wait this isn't what i meant

Bjรถrk - Homogenic

Björk goes all out and delivers a beautiful, string-driven album that still sounds as futuristic as it was back then. sharp beats and stellar singing from her, as is to be expected.

ALSO, HOLY SHIT!! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR 50 FOLLOWERS!! i got a very special review coming up next, stay tuned for that!

Invisible - El jardín de los presentes
90

nunca merecimos a spinetta.

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
86

strongest first half of ANY album. and then it's good. the fact i'm giving it a score this high should tell how much those tracks do for the album.

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
79

this is a good album, but i found it less interesting than their other projects. maybe i need more listens, but i was left a little disappointed.

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
86

despite this being a step down from their last album, i can't help but be hypnotized by this weird collection of beats and sounds.
it made me feel uncomfortable, but in the good way.
