This album feels invasive, like something trying to crawl around between my ears. There's actually some really interesting and unique (to me at least) ideas presented here, but this doesn't seem like something I would choose to return to. I felt more on edge with some of the oddball noises here rather than put at ease (not exactly a bad thing I ... read more

some kind of peace does exactly what it and it's title set out to do: bring peace and serenity. This is total relaxation and sleep inducing (in the best way) ambient experience.
One of the ways I like to look at and apreciate ambient music is paying close attention to the crecendos and decrecendos on a macro scale. This type of music should feel ... read more

This is some emotional, from-the-heart music. The title track in particular has some serious weight and gravitation, from that alone I knew I was in for a great experience here.
This is the type of album I feel would cross really well over different generations. The sound is so universally simple, yet also bold and adventurous enough to cover a wide ... read more
Idk in what world I thought I this was worth hearing π Somehow, the final three tracks got… a little better? Only a little bit though
"Caleb just give it a 100 what's wrong with you" shut up okay, it's a 99.
channel ORANGE is undoubtably one of my favorite albums of all time. Frank Ocean's storytelling and atmospheric world building is something unmatched in R&B. Maybe I'm simple minded, but I prefer this over Blonde as well, there are just too many iconic influential songs and moments on this album for me. Earl Sweatshirt's feature, Andre 3k's feature, Pyramids... LOST?!? Too many moments of greatness on this, ... read more
Vince Staples' self-titled album and 4th studio LP is seriously lacking from anything spectacular. The performances from Vince are underwhelming and lacking enough energy to make up for such a short run time. The production from Kenny Beats is still really good, but other than that, the only song I'm taking away from this album is TAKE ME HOME.
This is a good record, don't get me wrong, and I'm a little surprised I didn't enjoy it more. My biggest issue with this album would probably be the pacing of it. I feel like I was jumping from idea to idea without much or any time to breathe or build up to the next peak. There are some really cool ideas on this, but if there was more of a focus on the ambience and the in-between periods, I would have enjoyed it even more.
This is actually an awesome EP, I wasn't expecting that at all. I just thought the cover looked fun, but this ended up being a really really enjoyable listen. Monday Night and 3wayslim have great cadence and the beats are great. I didn't prioritize listening to many EP's last year, but if this came out in 2022 it might have been my favorite of the year.
Well, it's a new year, time to start listening to some random new releases.
Higher Lonely Power is the first project for pop punk group Fireworks after nearly a decade. With zero idea what I was about to listen to, I feel that this was time that could have been spent elsewhere.
The drumming and guitar are pretty solid on this, but my main issues start with the vocals, which is compounded by the lyrical content entirely not being my thing.
I'm glad that there seems to be a group of fans that ... read more
Well, I didn't really plan anything out for this, but I suppose this will be my final rating and review of 2022. Thank you to those who have supported any encouraged me over the last 6 months, I'm really looking forward to what the coming year has in store!
Some goals for myself in 2023, which are also temporarily posted in my About section:
- 600 ratings
- Reviews for most, if not all albums
- More long form, thoughtful reviews
Before anything else, I want to continue to ... read more
I've heard this record a couple times before tonight, but I never understood it or took anything away from it. Tonight was different though, this album clicked with me in a big way. I love the glitchy and heavy sound of this, something I never thought I would appreciate. There's something so satisfying to me about returning to experimental music that I had written off 1-2 years as "too weird" or "overrated" and loving it now.
This is actually a lot better than I was anticipating. Olivia's songwriting in particular struck a chord with me, her brutally sad lyrics managed to describe some things I'm going through pretty spot on. Here's to picking up the pieces and moving on in 2023 :/
I discovered this album about 6 months ago now, and I have not been able to stop returning to it. I don't listen to the same music over and over, I'd much rather explore something new, something I've never heard. But this album has been one of the few exceptions for months now. The weight that each song carries is unparalleled. Dare I say this could be my favorite album of all time? Too soon to say, but regardless I think this is a flawless record.

Daydream Nation is the fifth studio album from the group Sonic Youth. This is a noisy, alt-rock, one of a kind record that feels indescribable to me. It's complex and experimental, yet still accessible. I don't think this is one I appreciated enough with a first listen, but I can still say that this is a great album. I'll be spending more time with ... read more

The Strokes: another band I've seen so much praise for and heard so much about, but had yet to explore any of their music, even the 2020 release The New Abnormal. Super excited to dive into this one, even if Spotify doesn't have the original album art. :(
This album is so charming and personal. This doesn't give me the impression of some big production, ... read more
Shoutout to Popsicle who left a comment on my Top 50 Albums of 2022 list calling me out for having no Bladee. Well, here's your Bladee review. :)
I've learned a lot about myself and about music recently, but one thing I continue to struggle with is how to appreciate cloud rap. I just am not seeing the vision right now, I don't see the appeal of this.

I've been sitting on this rec for a little while, waiting for the end of the year to roll around and to feel like I've done everything I needed to do in regards to 2022 music. Now that that's done, this was one of the records I was most excited to hear as a result of the new Kelela album releasing in early 2023.
This album is far from in your face, ... read more
