As silly as it is, this used to be my favorite album. It’s a bit embarrassing to think about because of how often I shit on this band nowadays, but when I think of artists that I’ve fallen in love with, Imagine Dragons was the very first. I vaguely remember wandering around a mall and stumbling into a Barnes & Noble, and soon coming across the newly-released deluxe release of Smoke + Mirrors on CD. As a ten year-old I immediately thought “yeah, this is the real shit I ... read more
Though the Weezer influences are still very clear on Bear Album, it's the first LP from Billy I've heard that really sounds like his own, in contrast to the likes of the Zerwee duology.

"But the funny thing is what happened to her nose, ooohhh

Now, when people say her feet smell, they mean her nose"

The lead singer of indie band Glass Beach returns with a collection of laid back, groovy jams that's seriously hard to hate. I especially love how cartoonish this LP feels, with its sound changing from distorted electropop to some chill jazz on a whim. I hope this means more Glass Beach music is being made as well?
What's that?
They covered Beach Life-In-Death??
Surely nothing could go wrong with this!
This record is incredibly Infectious, with hooks and pounding bass around every corner, with occasional intervals showcasing Sophie's absolutely stunning voice in a sea of quieter instrumentation. Maybe this is just me being el jee bee tee, but this shit rocks. Like it rocks REALLY hard. Knowing how much potential Sophie clearly had here only makes her passing even more tragic than it already was. Rest in peace you absolute legend, you will always be remembered.

I was born with alcoholism. From the moment I was birthed by my mother, I craved booze of all kinds. I took my first sip of vodka mixed with Mountain Dew at 18 years old, much younger than most people. In my 32 years living with them, my parents have never believed me. They call me a little drunk gnome bitch, attacking me for having dwarfism, which they also say is a lie. "We never drank before we had you and you're five foot fucking eight," they say. They did this during one of my ... read more
ok but what if the ninja turtles were real and also they were rappers
We saw it with Black Eyed Peas, we saw it with Selena Gomez, and now we're seeing it with yet another legendary artist. Bad Brains deciding to go full reggaeton on their self-titled LP is easily the most tragic event of 2021. The reggae weasels its way into every track, from the six-minute "I Luv I Jah" to "Pay to Cum". These tracks could easily be sexy and groundbreaking (if you're into that kind of thing), but of course, nothing is less sexy reggae. Bob Marley my ass. More ... read more
George Washington’s debut jazz fusion LP is an epic epic, epicly titled “The Epic”. Maybe this is just me being a noob when it comes to jazz, but this three hour record absolutely blew me away. Washington’s saxophone leads the listener through a galaxy of sounds, flowing down a river of instrumentation on a voyage much like his own across the Delaware River in 1776. I really can’t sum up my feelings about an album like this in a normal review, so I’m just ... read more
this musical really taught me about how whitewashed american history is. i cant believe all of the founding fathers were actually people of color
2016 really was something, wasn't it?
This is my first Thug album, and I gotta say, I'm impressed. Mr. Jeff often combines foreign music styles with the all-too-well-known trap beat, leading us through it all with his slithering, reptilian voice. The atmosphere is cold, but not in a miserable way. Like when you open the freezer door to grab a frozen pizza. But I am the pizza. In other words, this album has completely engulfed my mind. What year is it? *whips and nae naes and dabs* what are ... read more
The sound almost reminds me of a sewer system.... no, this is not "post-punk". This is poop-punk god damn it.
This album is absolutely stunning. Everything about it has completely floored me, from the effortlessly beautiful vocals to the intricate, symphonic production. I'll be honest, I didn't really care much about listening to this album, and I think I only put it on my listening list because it was a must-hear. But god damn, I am so happy I decided to experience this record, because the amount of joy it has brought me is indescribable. It's a very good feeling to know that, in recent years, pop ... read more
