I remember feeling extremely scandalized as a teen when I figured out what "I want to put your hand in my pocket" meant.
Barnett's greater attention to melody and less-rambly songwriting is shaping up to be a massive improvement over her previous album. More like this, please.
UPDATE 3/19/18:
"Shave your head to see how it feels
Emotionally it’s not that different
But to the hand it’s beautiful
(Yeah to the hand it’s beautiful)"
How great is this stanza???
I'm guessing in a few decades this will be revered as some kind of subversive, iconoclastic celebration of the monotony creeping into mainstream music, kind of like the deliberately numerous and occasionally indistinguishable canvass and silkscreen replicas of unlicensed images done by Andy Warhol (yet another homosexual these guys probably cannot vibe with). In 2018, "culture" is actually a pretty accurate thing to title this project since it's truly a summation of the way streaming ... read more

UPDATE 5/15/18: really loving all three singles, especially "Curse of the I-5 Corridor" - she did that!
UPDATE 5/25/18: Will need to listen more but so far...... this is the album I wanted Fox Confessor Brings the Flood to Be. Really loving the dark direction the album takes almost immediately when you get into the second half with "Dirty Diamond" and "Oracle of the Maritimes."
The most standout moment for me is probably the ending of "Gumball ... read more
Runs a little long, but some amazing, very melodic songwriting and a killer opening set.
in my head i treat this as a maxi-single for "Only Acting" and it's much better that way.
Move over Annie Clark, there's a new queen of freaky funky futuristic pansexuality in town!!
This is honestly what the Charlotte Gainsbourg album could have been. What it lacks in cohesion and arc it more than compensates for by just having a ton of really well-written songs. I also have to commend Remy and company for the horrendous narratives on songs like "Rage of Plastics" and "Pearly Gates," which are captivating in their despair. Lastly I want to say that "M.A.H." is the left-leaning Obama diss track Anohni could never have made.

UPDATE 6/14/18: After finally getting to see them live for this tour I need to give this a charitable rating
Innocence Reaches's biggest problem was that it didn't fully commit to the electronic direction Kevin Barnes had discussed in pre-release interviews, which was especially concerning since stylistic inconsistency on an album wasn't really an issue the band had had up to that point. Many of the rock cuts weaved between the electronic songs ... read more
==ACTUAL REVIEW==
Ok, I tried writing a paragraph-style review a few times but honestly I'd rather just go track by track.
1. Dirty Computer
Janelle revives Kanye's "Have a famous old white musician play a minimal role on your song" thing from 2015. Between this and Grimes barely on Pynk she's really going Because the Internet on us. The song is nice, but can't seem to reconcile if it wants to be an introduction or a full-length song. I find the fadeout to be a little abrupt, but ... read more
Let us all bask in the fact that this is the worst-rated album of 2018 so far.
He's been performing most of these songs live across his tour for ACLAM. They are quite sad.
no one who jumped on the melon train of liking gucci gang, even ironically, is allowed to criticize charli's hook on this.
