I think something is wrong with my utopia.
Travis Scott is undoubtedly a heartless guy, but that doesn't disqualify his talent. Someone's morals don't have any correlation with the quality of their art. Anyways... so the wait was worth it after all then. Utopia was a very enjoyable experience, not something you get very often with rap albums at the moment. No one else at the moment in this era of rap is doing this, at least on the mainstream level.
Travis reinvented himself again and brought ... read more
Veteran has a special place in my heart as it helped me get into the experimental side of music in general. It's probably what moulded a significant amount of my music taste, and it's up to you to decide if that's either a good or a bad thing. Even though I put this album on such a high pedestal, the score isn't as high as the other experimental hip-hop releases that I reviewed. Why's that? I think the best way to summarise my feeling towards this album is that I don't think it's the best ... read more
Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA are releasing their collaborative album soon. Very exciting, very hype, all of us music nerds are jumping from excitement, getting out of our chairs for the first time in ages! So because of that, I wanted to look back on and talk about my favourite albums from both of them.
Starting out with Danny Brown's masterpiece, Atrocity Exhibition is a wild and experimental ride through Danny's mind with many twists and turns, which is both thrilling and unsettling. ... read more
The unpredictable yet at the time great friendship between Kanye West and Kid Cudi shines through on this album, it's hard to ignore or deny it. They weren't afraid to give it their all on this project, and while they didn't give us much time to display that, they certainly didn't waste any of it, giving us no space to breathe. I think all of the songs add something to this album, which is partly also what I think makes this album feel so complete to me.
The sounds represented here are very ... read more
Tyler escapes from the sound that made him rise to fame, and surprises everyone with his switch from a darker to a more upbeat sound and atmosphere. Exceeding the already brilliant production from his last album which let him shift his sound into anything he wanted to, Tyler decided to create an R&B album which displays him falling in love, making the album more accessible and relatable to the public.
Tyler gives us more of his typically beautiful synths throughout the album which is ... read more
How did I just discover this now. Can you even call this hip hop? The only way I can describe this is as a bunch of sounds put together that manage to classify as music. It's almost as if a huge portion of the album has been lost, and the remaining sounds from each song have been spread throughout the remaining songs randomly. On paper, it looks like a dreadful idea, however, this album has proven otherwise.
I'm in love with almost the entirety of this unique album. I don't know how to ... read more
While it's not as good as his previous album, The Weekend delivers with a great 80's sound and amazing production on here which I think is no surprise from him at this point. I do think that the album is filled with all the good songs on the first half, but that doesn't mean the second half is bad, it's still great. The features are a bit disappointing and maybe even ruin the songs in my opinion. Sacrifice has to be one of his best songs he's ever put out its just such a groove, and picking the ... read more
The Game did his thing while Kanye sounds like he's half-asleep on his verse. The dark instrumental is alright, its very simple, but it delivers.
Both songs are great. This is getting me hyped up for Utopia or Dystopia, I don't know which one it is but it's sounding good.
Possible the best video game soundtrack of all time. Nostalgia also gives it a couple of extra points.
This album is too short, that's the only problem that I have with it.
