Ethel Cain - Perverts
70

unique soundscape, but gets a little mundane and murky

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
95

a beautiful, abstract, and distraught culmination of events and fascinations in a troubled mind. soulful and crushing, and another reaffirmation as to why jazz rap is the best subgenre to emerge in more recent decades.

JPEGMAFIA - Veteran: Director's Cut
65

thoroughly enjoyed all the deluxe, even "this song is a safe space". dunno why that's rated so low.

Little Simz - Lotus
90

blood should be rated higher than 93, an emotional powerhouse of a song

to the review: this album is incredibly cohesive. to the palette of instrumentation used, the deliveries and features that simz draws from, and even the song titles (one word, each a symbolism of what makes her up). although lotus isn't as grandoise as simbi, it's not supposed to be. it's supposed to be more intimate and more personal. hence the album name being lotus, a symbolism for growth, fragility, and ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter VI

lil wayne retires from making good music

Ethel Cain - Nettles

speechless. song of the year for sure.

John Michel - Egotrip
90

aoty gives some of the best underground music ever. introduces me to a lot of new stuff, most of which i like. when i saw this first pop up in the front page, my expectations were high. but this album blew them out of the water. amazing production from front to end, and michel pulls off amazing performances throughout.

MF DOOM - MM..FOOD
75

special recipes aint it, highs here are nice tho

Clipse - Ace Trumpets
90

this beat is vile

Lil Tecca - OWA OWA
65

the more i listen to tecca the more i realize how well he uses autotune

Miley Cyrus - Something Beautiful
80

middle drags on a lot, but the front and back end of this album are explosive. has a lot of influences ranging from bjork to bjork to miley cyrus, but she puts her own spin on it quite well, despite some shortcomings

Taylor Swift - THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT
35

redux review: i didn't like how i gave it a 0 the first time after listening to it. i just don't like howw mediocre and one-note this entire album is. it's a sludgefest to get through, and what does it even culminate to at the end of the album?

Israel Kamakawiwoʻole - Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World
100

woah seeing this on aoty gave me a nostalgia surge. never expected to see this here but really glad it did. such an amazing, pure, and soulful song. rest in peace israel kamakawiwo'ole. happy to see people share the same feelings i do about this song

Magdalena Bay - A Little Rhythm and a Wicked Feeling
80

really fun pop record. you could definitely see that their production game really took off with mercurial world. mica's vocals are the centerpiece of this album.

Miley Cyrus - More to Lose
80

I think something went wrong with the mixing. it could’ve been more powerful I see the potential in this song

Kali Uchis - Sincerely,
85

she slayed on this one. pop soul done right

The Weeknd - Timeless (Remix)
NR

is this really necessary???

bbno$ - two
95

the production on this thing kinda goes off. also really catchy

André 3000 - 7 piano sketches
NR

"i've never seen a top 3 with any of those songs before, but they're all so valid"
On peachxoxopeach's review of Magdalena Bay - Second Sleep / Star Eyes
"@peachxoxo I could see that. but at the same time, like, it’s very hard to be original. people before you have already talked about all the things you wanted to talk about, so what else are you supposed to really say about the music without coming off as pretentious. not much, really."

On Yellowslotcar's review of Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me
"@Yellowslotcar huge respect for putting your opinion out. i do agree with many points you make about this work but i see this made not only for therapeutic relief for phil, but to also to help others that are overcoming death (which, of course, is the primary reason for it's critical acclaim and widespread praise. kind of similar to what ofelectricheat said). not to generate revenue. he's been making music ever since like the late 90's, so profit was probably (hopefully) not an incentive for him while releasing this to the world."

On JC99's review of Madvillain - Madvillainy
"as an abstract hip hop album, there really is no narrative. it's a snapshot of many different ideas into an amalgation of an album. there is no definitive or unifying factor that ties this album together. as for the lyricism, i'm not sure if you paid attention to the whole thing. sure, some songs touch upon common ground for many topics adjacent to many other hip hop records. i'll give you that. but saying that the wordplay and lyricism is average? come on. if you search up any video highlighting all his rhyme schemes on any song, you would see how insane they really are. plus there are so many witty one-liners i admire that you formed ur own opinion tho. it took me a full year of listening to this thing on and off to fully get it"
