Logic - Bobby Tarantino
60

Bobby Tarantino has some entertaining moments but is plagued by inconsistent production and repetitiveness.

Favorite Tracks: Slave II, Slave I, Wrist, 44 Bars

Least Favorite: Super Mario World, Deeper Than Money

Logic - The Incredible True Story
40

As consistently mediocre as it gets. The skits promote his own album as if it "changed everything", however nothing from the writing to the instrumentation stand out. Everything feels too laid back for me.

Favorite Tracks: Contact, Stainless

Least Favorite: Upgrade

G-Eazy - These Things Happen
70

I love the production on the majority of this one. everything sounds very well mixed. It's a solid improvement from his mixtapes.

As an artist, G-Eazy's core identity is almost entirely absent; This isn't the G-Eazy I knew from Endless Summer. The subject matter of a majority of the tracks are filled with the cliché's of success and parties. It's a big disappointment, because I thought the 1960's sound he built himself on were unique. To see him digress to an artistic level that is so ... read more

Billie Eilish - dont smile at me
63

While I enjoy the dark, low frequency production, Billie Eilish's angelic voice can get annoying after a few listens. Her pitch has little variety, leaving many songs with very little distinction in comparison to one another.

Favorite Track: COPYCAT, Ocean Eyes, Hostage

Least Favorite: My Boy, Watch, &Burn

Nas - NASIR
60

Nasir is my least favorite of the Wyoming series. I have always had a difficult time connecting with Nas, and not even Kanye's efforts could change this. The album starts off strong and focused, but falls off quick with weak efforts from Nas. midway through Nasir, the writing and flow of Nas is subpar. Kanye's beats are decent, but nowhere close to the excellence he has displayed on the other four albums of his series. West's instrumentation picks back up on the last two or three tracks, but ... read more

Jacob Banks - The Boy Who Cried Freedom
50

Jacob Banks' voice has a strong classic-soul influence. While I enjoy his raw voice, it is often awkwardly edited to match the modern instrumentation. The quiet, simple songs are my favorite off of this EP.

Favorite Tracks: Part Time Love, Photograph

Least Favorite: Unholy War

The Carters - EVERYTHING IS LOVE
63

Following the excellence of both artist's releases leading up to this project, I expected a lot more. The Carters (individually) over the past few years, especially Beyonce, have supplied some of my favorite work of their discography so far. Lemonade won my vote for album of the year back in 2016. From the writing to the overall sound, it was one of the most meticulous albums i've heard from this decade.

With "EVERYTHING IS LOVE", I am struggling to find the same elements that made ... read more

Teyana Taylor - K.T.S.E.
70

Kanye's Wyoming Sessions end on a very solid note. K.T.S.E. has some great production, once again thanks to West, who has been phenomenal over the course of five projects spanning through a total of 36 tracks. Teyana Taylor's efforts on a vocal standpoint are very fitting with the thematic sound. Her energy is very present through her passionate voice.

As she continues to progress through her career, I want to see a bit more depth. The hooks are great, but when the tracks barely scratch three ... read more

Drake - Scorpion
50

This is my least favorite Drake release other than his official debut. I don't see any reason why this album had to be 25 tracks long other than for Drake to manipulate the streaming system. Thanks to his 25-track beast, Scorpion has shattered the streaming records that Post Malone initially destroyed. Qualitatively, however, this album is nowhere near worth 25 tracks. While there are moments where Drake displays what he does best, at least half of the tracks are filler and easily ... read more

Ariana Grande - My Everything
55

Ariana Grande's 2nd studio album has its moments, but suffers from consistency. "My Everything" tries too hard to make every track a hit. Not only does this make the album inconsistent, but also one dimensional. While there are times where her voice derives memorable entertainment, these moments are too infrequent for me to enjoy the album in its entirety.

Favorite Tracks: One Last Time, Break Your Heart Right Back, Break Free

Least Favorite: Problem, Best Mistake

JAY-Z - 4:44
71

4:44 is my favorite JAY-Z album since "The Blueprint". This is primarily due to the production. "No I.D." rarely disappoints me, and he once again crafts a powerful, unique, consistent sound from the ground up. While I have never been a big JAY-Z fan, this release is one of his most focused efforts in his career. However, for such complex lyricism, I would like to hear some more diverse subject matters. I'm also bothered by JAY-Z's flow. I confuse myself trying to decide ... read more

XXXTENTACION - ?
76

XXXTENTACION made a lot of progress on "?". Many of my issues with his debut were addressed in this release. There is a lot more diversity and identity on this one. While "17" was too one dimensional, "?" has a lot of different tones, making each song feel distinct. The instrumentation has improved too, feeling much more layered. Most importantly, Tentacion improves in what he's best at, his emotional connection to the listener. His voice, whether through raps or ... read more

Post Malone - beerbongs & bentleys
84

Post Malone's sophomore release is loaded with hits. There are a lot of improvements since "Stoney". Most recognizably, the mixing sounds much cleaner. The autotune feels substantially more balanced. From his flow to the rhythm, everything feels impressively smooth. Along with this, the production alone is excellent.

At times, this album lacks depth and diversity. At 18 tracks, there is a bit of repetitiveness. And, In the moments when Post Malone attempts to branch out, it does not ... read more

Flume - Skin
87

"Skin" has tremendously grown on me. My first exposure to Flume arrived at poor timing. Skin was my first Flume project, and my experience with experimental electronic was slim. The instrumentals initially felt abstract, disjointed, and unnecessary.

Every time I return to this album, I've grown a stronger appreciation. I've always enjoyed the hit singles, and with time, I've digested the abstraction, craving for more. "Skin's" success story is an excellent example of ... read more

Jay Rock - Redemption
60

Redemption has some highlights, but most of the tracks fail to separate themselves from each-other and the bland gangster rap sub-genre. Jay Rock's efforts can feel fresh at first, but they lose it's value pretty quick. The best moments stem from Rock's concrete, personal experiences.

Favorite Tracks: Redemption, Wow Freestyle

Least Favorite: ES Tales, Knock it off

Various Artists - Black Panther: The Album
85

A diverse, innovative, entertaining, and thematic album inspired by an excellent film. There is a lot to like about Kendrick's composition.

Favorite Tracks: All the Stars, X, Paramedic, Seasons, Pray For Me

Least Favorite: The Ways, Bloody Waters, Redemption

J. Cole - KOD
40

J. Cole once again creates an album revolving around an idea that has the potential to be stellar, but is rather filled with underwhelming, forgettable moments that feel more like interludes than dense tracks. This is easily my least favorite project from Cole yet. I can barely get through the album without wanting to press skip. There are moments proving that J. Cole has the potential to create something as special as he did with Friday Night Lights, but the abundance of even more filler than ... read more

Logic - Bobby Tarantino II
75

Solid production, fun flow, and a lot of energy. This tape was an entertaining one. As warned in the intro, Bobby Tarantino II is meant to be nothing more, nothing less. repetitiveness, lack of depth, and some awkwardly over-influenced artistic decisions can drag some moments down at times, but Logic's spontaneous flow keeps me attentive and satisfied.

Favorite Track: 44 More

Least Favorite: Indica Badu

XXXTENTACION - 17
67

Tentacion's debut carries a powerful melancholic tone in "17". Thematically and artistically, xxxtentacion has a defined style. I really like the sound this album has. However, there needs to be a lot "more" in order for me to love what he's doing. The average track length barely scratches 2 minutes. The tracks feel more like thoughts rather than well-executed tracks. The album runs thin as it is only 22 minutes long. His style convinces me that he has potential, but this ... read more

Chris Stapleton - From A Room: Volume 2
65

"From a Room, Vol. 2" loses the uniqueness that his previous two albums had. The flaws of volume 1 are amplified on this record, as the instrumentation and songwriting is much more rough and generic. Stapleton still sings great on this one, but hollow writing and bland thematic choices take away from what made Stapleton special in his past. However, there are still moments that carry the foundation of what interested me in this music in the first place. To me, these moments are ... read more
