Julia Holter - Have You in My Wilderness
85

Absolutely one of the most peaceful albums I've ever heard, and one that just feels safe and comfortable to be in. Julia's voice is wonderful, and while it doesn't really try to do anything particularly crazy or experimental, it just does a lighter nicer style very nicely. To be honest, I don't really have a lot to say about this type of album, but I think it's one that will just steadily grow on me as I hear it more, especially in part to the really amazing ... read more

beabadoobee - This Is How Tomorrow Moves
75

This album was a pretty pleasant experience, if a bit front loaded. The first half of this is super fantastic, with stuff like Take A Bite, California, Tie My Shoes, and Girl Song all being really good stuff, and some of the best I've heard from beabadoobee, but I will admit that the latter half takes a bit of a more generic downturn, being a bit less interesting overall. Still, bea's voice is wonderfully soothing throughout, and this has a really nice feeling to it from start to ... read more

파란노을 [Parannoul] - Sky Hundred
85

Wow, what a wonder this album is! I've only ever heard 1 Parannoul album before this, After The Magic, but this feels like a definite step up to me. It's a lot more focused, and the highs here are incredibly strong, which a lot less lower points for me. Parannoul really gives his all on all the tracks here, with the ascendant feelings and melodies being insanely strong, but I do think at times the crazy instrumental can be a bit bloated and overbearing for my tastes. Though in ... read more

Radiohead - OK Computer
100

Wow, this album... it truly is something else. This is my 4th radiohead album listen (In Rainbows, Kid A, and AMSP before this), and I honestly think its a contender for my favorite thus far. Every idea they have here just hits, from the simpler more emotional songs to the rock infused masterpieces, to the chaotic tracks, everything here feels cohesive and FUN. There's a whole lot of moods and styles on display here, but all of them work so shockingly well, and I can really understand the ... read more

Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica
75

I listened to this just out of curiosity, and while I'm not super versed in ambient music, I'm surprised at the degree I liked this! It's not the most intricate or diverse ambient album, but the atmosphere and sound design here is a clear highlight that kept me surprisingly entranced from start to finish. Sure, there are some songs with pretty weird openings like Nassau, but then you have songs like Power of Persuasion and Submersible that just nail their atmosphere so well, and ... read more

Dabin - Wild Youth
55

This album is kinda just boring these days. It's kinda mediocre but not terrible, however it is painfully generic, and I don't find myself caring much for it as much as I used to. That's about all I have to say about it.

Favorite Songs: Bloom, In Flames, Another Day
Least Favorite Songs: Rings & Roses, Altitude

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
95

Coming from OFFLINE, an album that I felt was a pretty big letdown for me despite some decent highlights, this album is SUCH A GIGANTIC STEP UP. I'm like GENUINELY shocked at the mastery on display here in every aspect. This album is somehow a mixture of some of the most aggressive and violent bars and production I've heard, mixed in with some of the most beautiful styles I've heard, and some genuine surprises (adding more to don't rely on other men is the most insane thing ... read more

Lizdek - Gemini

Man, I used to love this album so much, but it just... doesn't hold up, even for 2022. Half the songs are a huge mess, the heavy songs on here almost all fall flat minus track 2 and 3, and the highlights just aren't very high. That being said, the highlights it does have are songs I do care for, and one specific song on here continually blows my mind every time I hear it (MUCUS) so it's not all bad. It's an overall meh album that I enjoy some of, so leaning a bit closer to ... read more

Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
65

I'm a huuuuuge fan of Hit Me Hard And Soft, and it made me want to go back and check out all of Billie's discography, so what better place to start than her first album? I wish I could say I liked this album more, but I think it was just alright. It's very clear it was her first album, with a lot of wacky crazy ideas, some of which stuck really well and some of which did not land in the slightest. This album features some of the roughest stuff i've heard from billie, and ... read more

Coming from Wallsocket to this honestly makes me appreciated Wallsocket even more, because this feels so much more amateur than that one. The vocal work is a lot more annoying/less well done, and the hyperpoppy style is a lot less of my thing compared to the electropop style of Wallsocket. I honestly am just not a hyperpop fan, and that hurts this album. It exists, but beyond a few songs I like, I don't have any strong positive feelings about this album. Meh, leaning to good at times but ... read more

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D

Well, I was really excited for this album after the huge first track that was Cheerleader, and I went into this really wanting to love it and being really ready to defend it, but unfortunately even as someone who likes Porter a lot, this album flops in all the ways it wants to. I don't think its the worst thing ever, but this whole album feels like its improperly structured, and like Porter didn't know what he was doing until the last 3 songs when putting it together. This is a weird ... read more

Tony Romera - Introspection
60

This album isn't really as bad as I would've thought it would be, as someone who has never been a huge fan of Tony Romera, but how I felt about it back in 2021 still holds up pretty much the same now in 2024. The album has its bright groovy spots, but the bad spots drag it down really really heavily, and there's just not enough standout here for me to think much about this album. It's fine, and shines with the grooviest songs, but is hurt really bad by some awful ... read more

Lorde - Melodrama
80

Melodrama is a pop album that feels very emotionally strong, with a lot of care put into it. The big highlights for me on this album are the vocals (which are consistently great throughout) and the energetic fun songs like Green Light and Supercut, which are so much fun to listen to, and I do wish there was a bit more songs like them. That being said, the slower more emotional songs are consistently nice too, with songs like Liability especially resonating with me quite a bit and becoming ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)

This album was good! I think the second half of the album was a lot stronger though, with some more interesting hooks and instrumental styles, and Famous Prophets (Stars), which feels like the better use of a long song on here. The first half, while good, features some filler-y moments and tracks, and Beach Life-In-Death, even if it is good, feels a bit drawn out to me compared to the other long song here. I also don't think I loved the vocals, though they did improve in the second half. ... read more

G Jones - PATHS
70

This album is surprisingly good, though a very flawed experience that I think is alright coming back to it. The flow of the album is pretty strange, as there's only really like half actual songs, with the other songs being sorta filler in between songs, so the experience feels almost like an EP with a lot of atmospheric sound design padding around it. That being said, it nails the feeling of being an album really well, so huge props for that. I just wish I liked more of the songs here, as ... read more

Tame Impala - The Slow Rush
75

This is a solid album, that I honestly just don't have much to say about. It does most of the same type of things that Currents does, it just doesn't really do them as well, besides some big standouts that really stick out even harder then some of the best in Currents (in a good way)

It's basically just not as good Currents. Solid album, but I definitely felt like it was just re-treading the same ground, and while there are snippets of something more, this album just wasn't ... read more

Porter Robinson - Worlds
70

This album is kind of a mixed bag a bit? On the one hand, it features some really wonderful songs, especially near the beginning and end, but on the other hand the middle is a huge bag of meh. The highs really bring this album out though, with its beautiful euphoric uplifting sound design and pretty vocals, and the finale track "Goodbye To a World" is an emotional classic. But then you have stuff in the middle, particularly songs like Hear the Bells, that just fall flat. I can't ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - LP! (Offline Version)

This is my first time checking out a proper all rap album, as someone who has historically HATED rap for a very long time, but also as someone who has really enjoyed JPEGMAFIA's recent 2 songs on his upcoming album, so I was coming into this with a pretty positive outlook, and I honestly didn't hate it!

The production here is a clear highlight, being really creative and neat throughout, really nailing in the feeling that Peggy is just having a lot of fun with the album doing whatever ... read more

Clairo - Charm
70

This album gives more of that soft Clairo goodness, but this time with a whole lot of jazz influence rather than a softer folk vibe. While folk isn't usually my thing, I do love how it's done on Sling, and on this album the jazz-y hooks just don't quite grip me as hard. This album is certainly not bad, it's a pleasant listen, but I feel like Clairo's music works best as a vulnerable folk-y sound, and this jazzy coffee shop style is not really as interesting to me as a ... read more

Ado - 残夢 [Zanmu]
70

Wow, this album sure is absurdly overhated! I dunno what is up with Ado's reviews on this site, but this is genuinely just a good album. It's not perfect sure, there's a lot of songs that are lacking or too messy, and it's definitely not a very cohesive album (considering its just basically just a ton of singles mashed together), but the majority of this is good! Ado's vocal style feels so fresh and fun compared against so much of the jpop/jrock world, and when she ... read more
