Tristam - WLUWD

This album is certainly not the best album ever, it's pretty rough around the edges in the middle area with some songs that have kinda plain or basic styles and singing work, but the second half of this album shines so brightly that it genuinely just makes up for the middle so so much by having some of Tristams most meaningful and emotional work to date, alongside some genuinely fantastic singing and a diverse set of styles. The opener track is also gorgeous, and sets the stage for this ... read more

Radiohead - In Rainbows
90

This is an extremely commendable album, I have to give Radiohead props here for such incredible work putting together such a stacked set of songs with amazing instrumentals, vocals, and just a consistently good style throughout. This is my first full Radiohead album listen, and I can pretty safely say I enjoyed it, even if I can't fully say I loved it yet. The first half of the album was soooo strong for me and has so many big hitters, but I feel it falters a bit for me in the second half, ... read more

inu - 夢の翳り

Not bad really, it's nice and enjoyable, but this is a somewhat forgettable album as a whole. It's got a nice peaceful vibe to it that makes me enjoy listening to it still, and I love the cover art, but I wouldn't say I'm clamoring to come back to any of this. It's just... very feel good! So if you're into that, check this out. I do kinda wish more of it was like the last song though, which is the most standout and best song here.

Porter Robinson - Nurture

Honestly, I love this album. It's not at all perfect, the album kinda drags a bit in the middle with some more forgettable tracks, and it's a little bit lacking in cohesion in some places, but this album just feels very real and raw, like Porter really is trying to express his feelings and emotions here. There's a comforting feeling to this album, like being wrapped in a warm blanket with some hot chocolate by the fire, and just feeling safe. Porter shows a lot of emotion and ... read more

Alvvays - Antisocialites

My thoughts on this are pretty similar to Blue Rev, the album they released after this. It's a solid album thats enjoyable to listen to from start to finish, but is lacking in major standouts or songs I feel like I MUST come back to. That being said, there's honestly nothing really wrong with this, and at worst the songs are a bit less interesting, but still good. It's a pleasant listen from start to finish, and I do think it has a pretty strong ending set of tracks too. A bit ... read more

Infected Mushroom - IM25

While it could perhaps be said that I'm being a bit harsh on this album with my rating, I genuinely just strongly dislike this album. It's not like.. all bad, there are a few good songs I guess, but MAN this is just so rough around the edges in all aspects. None of the songs here show the Psytrance prowess Infected Mushroom is known for, and for their 25th anniversary album they decide to go with... weird experimental vocal based pop songs almost? Covers? Forgettable psytrance? ... read more

椎名林檎 [Ringo Sheena] - 加爾基 精液 栗ノ花 [Kalk Samen Chestnut Flower]

This album is quite chaotic, with a whole lot of highs and definitely some lows, so as a whole it's hard to conclude how I feel about it because of how much this album jumps between styles. The instrumentation is a huge highlight throughout, being really well recorded and mixed with the vocals, which are also fairly good throughout. A some of the styles just do not really work for me though, and those definitely drag the album down. The ones that work though, are such a fun time, and as a ... read more

Holly - Minha Vida - Sadness

This album is a lil all over the place at times, with some strange diversity in styles, but when at its peak, this album provides an atmosphere unlike a lot of other things I've heard, and is a really cool project all in all from Holly. It's hurt by some weirder tracks that drag it down, but the middle brings it up a whole lot, and mostly makes up for the lower points, especially given how short this is. Solidly enjoyable!

Infected Mushroom - More Than Just A Name

Coming right off the presses of a relisten to Head of NASA and the 2 Amish Boys, this album is one I was extremely happy to see still be a HUGE hit for me! This has always been my favorite Infected Mushroom album, even including the few off Monstercat ones I've heard, and I'm happy to report this is still the case here. The pure psytrance songs here are absolutely filled with variety and interesting elements, with even the weakest ones still having plenty to love. But the highlights here, ... read more

Nitepunk - HUMAN

I am.... conflicted on this album. There's a lot of incredibly well done production here that stands out on it's own, and I can tell Nitepunk put a lot of effort into this, but it does feel like it gets a little too samey, and when the album tries to divert into more melodic stuff, it feels incredibly lacking and low effort compared to the heavy stuff. (besides Black and Colors) I didn't hate this album, but I didn't love it either.

Fishmans - LONG SEASON

A pretty cool and intriguing 35 minute album compressed into one song, something I've never quite seen before! It works well, but the problem I face with these types of albums is that they just aren't something I can listen to on my own. Due to this being a 35 minute song, it's only the kind of thing I can put on if I really want to hear it, and while this is a nice album, I can't say anything is jumping at me as anything I super super wanna return to, and the middle of the song turns into this ... read more

F.O.O.L - MACHINE

I honestly went into this with fairly high expectations, as someone who has generally enjoyed F.O.O.L stuff and really quite liked some of his recent EPs of recent times, but this debut album is a miss all around. It has a somewhat strong beginning, but none of the songs breach any higher than like an 8/10 at best, being good but not great, but then from Vibrance onward the album just takes a complete nosedive into boring or bland synthwave/midtempo. The collaborators help carry a lot of the ... read more

Forgot to review this, so giving this a proper review after skimming through the songs to remind myself of them. This album is solid, and a cool throwback for Infected Mushrooms older songs, even if I'm not super familiar with them. It slogs a bit in some periods, but there are some super strong songs here. Not as much variety though, which does make it feel a bit dragged out.

Infected Mushroom - Head of NASA and the 2 Amish Boys

The first Infected Mushroom album I've ever heard, and a really solid entry in their discography in my opinion! This album doesn't stray too far from the standard Infected Mushroom style for the most part, sticking to pretty simple ideas, but the atmosphere is really strong here! There are some more forgettable songs, and it ends with a really weird and kinda weak hip hop song, but the best songs on here are really quite strong, and the whole album is pretty fun to listen to! Not their best ... read more

Lindsey Stirling - Duality
90

Finally, FINALLY, after 4 albums, this album truly feels like Lindsey has found her footing and her sound, and LOCKED IN with it, not even needing much vocal performances to shine. The first half of this album is genuinely spectacular, with vocal performances taking a large backseat to bring in an amazing mix of EDM styles on songs like Evil Twin, and some beautiful pure violin playing with Serenity Found, but this album fixes the big issue I had with Artemis by just being filled with lots of ... read more

This album is my second GY!BE album I've heard in full, and I gotta these guys have absolutely got it. Their style is so infectiously strong, managing to keep my attention and interesting for entire 20 minute long songs and making me want to save them is NO small feat. This album, compared to Lift Your Skinny Fists, I feel tells a strong story through instrumentals and feeling, and has an amazing sense of atmosphere. I do think its a little more lacking comparatively though, since it really ... read more

Lindsey Stirling - Artemis

This album is Lindseys most instrumental work to date, having her cleanest production and violin mixing, and less mixed in EDM to boot, but as a result I actually feel like this album is lacking in a lot of character, and especially in the middle area is just kind of boring in some places. There's not as much variety here as there usually is in a Lindsey Stirling album, and the EDM mixed in kinda falls a bit flat. There's also some weird choices here, like The Upside being here, then The ... read more

There's not a lot that is inherently wrong with this album, really. It has some solid singing, and some pretty nice instrumental work to boot, and those help this a lot! The problem for me however is that none of that matters in the slightest when the way this album SOUNDS is what frustrates me. The whole album has a very muffled "played through an old timey radio" kind of sound that I just kind of hate, and it drags this entire album down for me. The best songs on this album are when ... read more

Lindsey Stirling - Brave Enough

This album, while it may not have as much variety as Shatter Me, or as much character as her self titled album, is an incredibly consistent experience from start to finish, with its lows being at worst a little generic or boring particularly around the middle, and the highs here being really quite wonderful, especially the first 4 songs! I flip flop on whether or not I prefer this or Shatter Me, but it is lacking a bit in truly standout tracks. Still, what is here is great, and the mixing and ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There

Honestly, I'll admit that this album took me a little bit of time for it to fully click while I was listening to it. The instrumentals were incredibly strong from the very start, but the vocals took a bit of time to really settle in for me. The song that really made it all click though was The Place Where He Inserted the Blade, and after hearing that song it really feels like everything on this album just... clicked for me. The instrumentals are so fun, sad, emotional, and all over the place, ... read more
