This album is a mix of experimental masterpieces and then attempted experimental masterpieces. It still all works for a solid listen but not flawless by any means. Also Hold My Liquor is possibly the best song of the decade.
Similar to the melodic blue, very energetic album, not lyrically dense, a fun listen. The difference is the diversity between songs and beats on the melodic blue is shown a lot more on that project. Die Lit has some great takeaway tracks but is lacking as a 19 song album.
Not an extremely technical lyrical album but holy this thing has energy. A really fun listen through and even the misses are bearable songs. The writing however just isn’t good in some places as well as weirdly sexual songs mixed throughout.
A perfect album. Miles Davis and John Coltrane are geniuses of music. The sounds developed in this album are magnificent. Whether it’s the soft backing drums, the magnificent horn playing, or the graceful sound of the piano. This album is truly a work of art. Incredible.
Rocky’s signature psychedelic trap formula gets a little stale on this project. When something is 18 songs long you want some diversity. A great Lil Wayne Feature, solid rapping by rocky and a couple bangers save this album. Decent overall.
Out of pure musicality this album is great. If we however add in the fact this is the last album released before Macs tragic death. It brings to light his passing and is truly an amazing album. The sentiments of dealing with depression and addiction but still finding a way to swim above water. The culmination of everything Mac has done. One of my fav album listens I’ve done, not incredible in a technical sense but still very good.
When you go into an alchemist album you expect incredible beats. Which we get only sometimes on this album. In my opinion there are some great rap features from griselda artists as well as Action Bronson,Boldy James and Earl Sweatshirt. But at its core one of the less enjoyable alchemist projects that has come out recently. Don’t recommend a full listen but pulled some tracks I liked such as Ray Mysterio, Mac 10 Wounds and Hopeless Romantic.
Rubber soul is in my opinion an overrated Beatles album. Does that mean it’s bad, hell no. Songs like Michele and Nowhere Man are some of my favourite songs of all time. I think they perform the best on more acoustic guitar heavy songs, the high energy love songs become stale throughout the rest of a great album.
Brought in because of Lovefool, I listened to this album the whole way through a couple weeks ago. I was surprised and amazed, the instrumentation is actually amazing and the singing is solid. In some points the songwriting is a little awkward and there are some misses later in the tracklist. Overall fun listen pleasantly surprised and going to do a deeper dive in their catalogue.
A super personal album that for me brought tears one first listen. Some misses on the track list and the occasional corny bar but the energy brought in a song like Deja Vu or Changes mixed with the sentiment in the outro 4 Your Eyez Only leaves a beautiful album.
The first half of this album is groundbreaking rage, trap, and overall hip hop music. The second half with exceptions like Lost Forever and Till Further Notice are lazy attempts to bring in listens with features. Overall this album is still very imaginable and despite a weaker second half you should be able to get through it with enjoyment.
This album is a continuation on the soul sounds of the college dropout. Solid album all the way around with some incredible tracks like We Major and Diamonds From Sierra Leone. However the nostalgic feel that makes the College Dropout so special is lost in moments here on this album.
Coming off the Grammy winning album IGOR, Tyler could've continued down the trend of more R&B/Neo Soul soundscapes with conceptual stories. Instead he created the pinnacle of new gen luxury rap. Only rivaled in my opinion by Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, this whole album is pretty much one long brag. But its done with phenomenal rapping, Bossa Nova and Jazz sampling which Tyler glides over, and overall a positive message throughout the album.
I understand the sentimental value of the album and the heavy undertones it carries and Earls rapping is fine, but the production is too much for me at certain points and the mixing of Earls vocals, although adding to the tone and theme of the album, creates uncomfortable listening experiences.
Super enjoyable album that's fun to listen to with nothing too special. In exception of the last song SORRY NOT SORRY. Easily the best song on the album and a passionate performance from Tyler.
This album conveys a moody feel as well as exceptional rapping by drake himself. Some of the dark trap beats are a little too much at certain points but bangers like 6 God mesh well with R&B cuts like Jungle. The outro 6pm in New York is timeless drake to cap off a memorable album. Album however starts off slow which brings it down.
Liana’s soft and dreamy voice is great to help you drift away to the stories she’s portraying. However the gentle instrumentation at some point goes past drifting away and almost sleepy. Also much too short. Would love a bigger sample size, lot of promise from this artist.
Repetitive instrumentation and at some points bland vocal performances bring the album down. Still some incredibly emotional cuts and beautiful songs overall.
