Gonna give a full review once I can muster my thoughts together in detail but based on the first 5 listens I think this is better than Love And Affection For Stupid Little Bitches and Peaceful as Hell, both of which are among my favourite albums. So glad we're getting another release from Devi and Rook and so glad it's this cathartic and punchy, perhaps their darkest album in sound since Waste Isolation. Also the opener PEACESIGN!!!!!!!!!!! might just be the best song they've made as a duo, ... read more
Paralore, that's it that's the review...
(Seriously not sure why this is being rated so low, sure it's not revolutionary but Flowers for Vases is an intimate set of heartbreaking and low-key tracks from Hayley that suit her vocal strengths very well. I didnt find it sleepy at all and since people are comparing it to Taylor Swift's recent output, Flowers for Vases > Folklore > Evermore)
This was a hell of a lot of fun and definitely has me intregued about Palberta and onboard to check out whatever the trio has in store for the future. Catchy, repetitive indie punk with some great grooves and solid songwriting. Reminds me of early Talking Heads mixed with Illuminati Hotties and me likey that combination. Give it a listen!
(Big Bad Want is a phenomenal track to try if you want to understand the feel of the album as a whole, one of my favorite songs of the year so far!)
Continuing my dive into Paramore's discography with their third album, 2009's Brand New Eyes. This album is an absolute blast and coming off the heels of the success Riot brought them two years prior, it manages to take the bands sound into new places within pop punk. The band is in a more emotionally driven, punchy state on this album and that leads to some of their hardest and loudest songs as well as their softest most intimate moments, with both styles complimenting each other greatly ... read more
A really solid listen and great slice of post-punk. I don't think this is clicking with me as well as it could but it's definitely enjoyable to listen to and Nigel Hitter is one of the best songs of the year hands down. I don't have much else to say but I admire what Shame are doing with this record and I'm glad people are loving it!
Great buildup and atmospherically heavy production with gorgeous vocals from ROSALÍA and Billie but that autotuned ending is what brings the whole song together. Eargasmic shit!!
Really solid! This was a nice surprise and a quaint and cute listen. Weezers' best since the White Album for sure with some stellar strings, great honest songwriting from Rivers and some genuinely beautiful moments (Playing My Piano, the ending of Mirror Image, Bird With A Broken Wing). Still, there are a couple weak tracks that hold this back from being as brilliant as Blue, Pinkerton, White or certain moments of Maladroit and EWBAITE but overall it's a nice light listen and a step in the ... read more
Whenever I hear that a song is experimental, in my head this is what I wish it would always sound like. Seriously this is some mind blowing and amazingly melodic shit and I'm incredibly hyped for the new Body Meat project this year. Truck Music was one of my favourite listens in 2019 and I can't believe Body Meat only has 2000 or so monthly listeners on Spotify because this is gorgeously put together!
Now this is what I'm talking about! Paramore's second album deservedly has a reputation as being a great pop punk album and the album responsible for thrusting the band into stardom and with good reason. Riot takes the energy from their debut and cranks it up, creating some incredibly catchy and iconic tracks in the process. The production sounds crisper, the drums hit harder, and Hayley belts out some of the best hooks she's ever written. Riot doesn't reinvent the wheel and is very much a ... read more
Paramore's first outing certainly isn't a brilliant album, even when held up beside the slew of other mall emo and pop punk albums from the same era. It does however showcase Hayley's amazing vocals and knack for writing great songs despite the overly edgy tones her lyrics on this album sometimes have. I think the main area All We Know Is Falling falters in is the instrumental department. All of these songs are well crafted, with catchy punk guitar lines and some great drumming, but too often ... read more
As you can probably tell by my profile picture, the music of The Avalanches means a lot to me, particularly their 2016 opus Wildflower. Through their samples and warmth, the group manage to create nostalgic and bittersweet feelings that bring forth childhood memories and yearning for a timeless time that never truly existed. Since I Left You and Wildflower are both collages of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and present day, crashing together to create music that feels moving and at times, ... read more
Passion Pain and Demon Slayin but make it trap, at least for the first leg of the album, Man on The Moon III comes across as Kid Cudi trying to balance doing new things as well as throwing back to the sound of the first 2 MoTM albums and for the most part it works. The best tracks on this album capture a slower psychedelic vibe and feature songwriting from Cudi that feels direct and from the heart like his older records. Once the album hits it's mid-point the emotional tracks begin to number up ... read more
Edit: This keeps growing on me, I bought the vinyl :)
I guess my music taste isn't credible anymore but I'm on my 4th listen of this new Yungblud album and I'm really enjoying myself. A couple years ago my partner put me onto his music and I checked out 21st Century Liability which was not my thing at all, but Weird! shows growth for Yungblud as an artist and is just a great pop punk album with a mix of emotional songs and fun bangers.
The songs on this album may not be incredibly deep but ... read more
This thing really slaps unbelievably from back to front and is the project I've wanted from Rico since hearing Sugar Trap 2. A perfect mix of her punk energy and knack for writing catchy hooks, Nightmare Vacation is one of the best rap projects of the year. Check Me Out, iPhone, Girl Scouts, Let It Out, No Debate, OHFR and 10Fo are my favorite tracks and all go incredibly hard! Surprisingly the weaker tracks are the ones with features which shows how much Rico can bring to the table by herself, ... read more
Second Uzi project this year to start off great and after a few tracks lose momentum and energy, also Future is here! Tbh the first 4 or so tracks go really hard in a perfectly dumb way that a lot of both Future and Uzi's work over the past year has but by the middle of this I was completely lost in the monotony of it all. If this project was the songs Baby Pluto and Ridin Strikers on loop one after the other for 16 tracks I would've been more entertained.
Benee's debut full length is a brilliant foray into various different styles of pop music, occasionally with heavy indie and funk vibes and it goes over really well! It's what I would call easy listening music but rarely does this album fade into the background and that's thanks to how damn groovy it is. If this is what the next wave of mainstream pop music is destined to sound like then I'm really excited! Check it out! (also Kool is a strong contender for song of the year)
Really enjoyed Amo last year but this? This absolutely fucks
