This absolutely goes off as Gupi and Fraxiom deliver a crazy, warped, experimental, fun view of pop music with amazing production from Gupi, catchy insane and heartfelt lyrics from Frax and an overall vibe of just fun! 8 now, amazing, Mos Thoser, amazing, Metal, holy shit who saw that track coming?! From back to front on this album Food House prove themselves to be one of most interesting rising pop duos at the moment and I hope this is only the beginning, phenomanal!
A pretty enjoyable album from everyones favourite Aussie indie rock Triple J core band, while it doesn't reach the heights of Puddinghead, this self titled project sees the band expanding their sound and making some cracking tunes in the process!
This just didn't hit for me how I wanted it to, by no means is Song Machine a bad project but too much of the material here feels flat from a production standpoint. I love the musical output of Gorillaz, Demon Days and Plastic Beach are amazing albums and I can see how people see this as a worthy successor to those but there is something about the sound that just drags on rather unflatteringly for a fair amount of the tracks here.
I think it may be the drum machines and mid-tempo pace that ... read more
A brilliant collection of pop rock jams with heavy 80s overtones but done in a way that feels fresh and enjoyable from beginning to end! I wasn't huge into iDKHOW's first EP save a track or two so this really surprised me. Particularly around From the Gallows the album hits with a stride of outstanding tracks and the closing title track is an anthemic and fitting end to what was a really fun ride!
My Agenda feels like a defining statement from Dorian Electra and is certainly one of the most chaotic, camp and absurdly satirical pop albums I've ever heard and I'm 100% here for it. Turning the more abrasive moments on Flamboyant up to eleven, this new project has some of the craziest and coolest production to come from the "hyperpop" scene, with it stylistically blending medieval aesthetics with colorful chaos, bubblegum pop and heaps of metallic edginess. This provides the ... read more
About to lose any credibility I've had but personally I really enjoyed this new MGK album. I've never listened to a full project of his before but from the songs I've heard here and there, his rap music definitely was not for me. A couple months ago my girlfriend (who mostly listens to alternative pop rock and metalcore) told me that MGK went punk and played me the track My Bloody Valentine which didn't really grab my attention and featured some pretty average singing so I wasn't on board just ... read more
A departure from the dusty washed out punk of Small Car Big Wheels, this album from Enjoy (aka Wyatt Shears, one half of The Garden) was a great listen from beginning to end. It's got some brilliantly kooky production but creates a very chilled atmosphere, basically it's pure vibes and I'm glad albums like this exist. The songwriting is pleasant and catchy and the tracks here can actually get quite funky, which suits the Enjoy aesthetic perfectly. I'd put Sessions With A Nasty Old Tree in the ... read more
Trap album of the year without a doubt, a brilliant follow up to I Am > I Was and a sequel that manages to outdo the original Savage Mode. Friendship ended with Playboi Carti, 21 Savage is my new best friend 😤
I've been following Joji's music since his leaks and singles before the In Tongues era and to see him finally put out an album capitalizing on all his talent after all these years is amazing. While In Tongues and Ballads 1 have a special place in my heart from the time they were released, it's not hard to see the flaws present in those projects. With Nectar, Joji has taken all the likeable quirks from his previous works and polished and tightened them, creating a series of tracks that are ... read more
This my first full experience with a Flaming Lips album, after getting into them through their producer Dave Fridman's work with MGMT. Holy shit what a brilliantly dark little album this was. Seemingly a meditation on drugs and mortality, American Head whisked me away with it's sound and on top of that has some amazing writing and concepts to boot. It's mix of a melencholic folky breeze with beautiful layering and psychedelic textures made for a listen that is great for both passive and ... read more
After the amazing experimental ride that was 7G, AG Cook is back with a concise set of 10 tracks in the form of Apple, that further expand his sound whilst taking the winning elements of 7G and condensing them into one of the weirdest but most beautiful pop albums of the year. This feels in many regards like the sister album to 7G, and close cousin of Hannah Diamonds Reflections (released last year with production from Cook) and I honestly couldn't be more happy with it! The variety of sounds ... read more
A really good debut effort of indie pop that is easy on the ears and catchy. This surprised me heaps and Matt shows hella promise as a musician so I'm looking forward to whatever he makes next! (Come Over is likely going to make my best songs of the year, such a gem)
I don't entirely know why but something about Jaden's music just clicks with me. His rapping is boyish and often not very well executed and he can't really sing that great either but there's just an energy I get from hearing his vocals over the production choices he chooses that makes me feel warm and CTV3 was no exception. I actually really disliked Cabin Fever when it first dropped and I wasn't really anticipating this like I was his previous albums but as a whole this thing provided some ... read more
Ada Rook is absolutely killing it this year!! Every project she's been a part of has turned to gold, from the final Black Dresses outing Peaceful as Hell, to 2,020 Knives and now this album as Crisis Sigil. It's a short punchy set of industrial tracks that absolutely go off and are ripe for headbanging and screaming your brain out to. There's still great songwriting behind all the distorted guitars and screams and Rook manages to keep evolving her sound in new ways, this time pushing it ... read more
Forever Turned Around was one of my favourite albums last year, a neatly packaged indie folk album with plenty of memorable songs and a underlying sadness that made it infinitely revisitable. To follow up that great album, Whitney have dropped a collection of covers and for the most part they are pretty good. They lack a lot of the lushness present in their sound on FTA but as a little fun in between project this is certainly good! High On a Rocky Ledge, Crying Laughing Loving Lying and Rain ... read more
Holy shit… PC Music founder, label head and sonic wizard A.G. Cook has finally released his debut album after years of dropping loose singles and collaborations here and there and well, purely on a content level it’s definitely worth the wait. 7G features 49 songs, yep 49 coming at over 2 and a half hours of listening. Now usually I am very much against overly long albums, but with it being split into 7 separate bite-sized sections (or discs) of 7 tracks each, and being from one of ... read more
Slapper after slapper after slapper! The best hip-hop project from 2020 so far there I said it
The last 4 tracks alone make this album 100% worth listening to! The rest are fun and Amine seems to draw from an old school sound on plenty of tracks here which is nice to see. His singing has improved a lot from his previous efforts and the running spoken word sections at the end of several tracks connect them together quite well. The only tracks here I don't really enjoy are Woodlawn and Can't Decide which go for trappy fun vibes but fall short. The rest are pretty damn great! Pop rap at ... read more
Yeah it's great, really great, Exile might just be the greatest song of Taylors' career so far, but you already know its a great album and a brilliant switch up to her sound so there's not much point in me adding my say. Brilliant album, worth a listen.
