Cake Pop 2 for the most part is a fun and enjoyable listen! With production mainly handled by Dylan Brady and vocals from Ravenna Golden, Lewis Grant, Aaron Cartier and more, the album is a nice little blast of hyperpop with a lot of the tracks sounding like an update of the sounds Dylan was working with in his solo work and when producing for Ravenna in the past.
The singles Black Rum and Satin Bedsheets are standouts, along with the blissful Cake Happy. One of the most interesting tracks ... read more
Sharing Beds and Chewing Cotton Wool are fantastically emotive songs that showcase a direction for The Japanese House that feels like a progression from the more dreamy moments on Good At Falling and I'm 100% here for it. Something Has to Change and Dionne are both good pop tracks and while I would have liked Justin Vernon to contribute vocals to a track with a similar energy to Sharing Beds, his appearance on Dionne is a welcome one. Very excited for whatever's next for Amber's music!
Just dropping in to say Marika is Sleeping is an amazing song that is criminally under-appreciated, also this album is great.
Coming from one of Lil Yachty's biggest defenders, somebody who even found enjoyment in Teenage Emotions, this project is NOT GOOD. The beats are run of the mill stock standard Detroit style beats, Yachty sounds bored on every song, the features often outshine him but even they aren't that great. The RMC Mike feature might just be one of the most entertainingly wacky performances on a hip hop track of the year though, so the project gets a couple points for that.
This new Matt Martians album is an improvement on The Last Party and continues to showcase his talents at making breezy and hazy funk and R&B jams. There's a certain tonality to the synths and bass in his music that just makes it perfect for night time drives and the material on Going Normal is no exception, with it being his best sounding album to date. It's not music that has a very big emotional impact, but it feels amazing and delivers on the vibes big time.
A solid little collection of zany bangers from Tommy Cash! While it doesn't compare to the abrasive and forward thinking ¥€$, it proves that Tommy still has a knack for making exciting music and I'm excited to see how his sound will evolve next.
Pretty great EP from an artist I've only recently discovered. Hardcore Happy and Smoke are amazing tracks and some of my favorites of the year so far. The others are nice while they're on!
Genuinely mind-bending, this new EP Year of The Orc showcases why Body Meat is one of the most interesting projects in modern music with it's insane mix of intense rhythmic changes, tribal and metallic sounding deconstructed trap percussion, and colorful and impassioned vocal deliveries.
Tracks like 4700 and opener Twigs are chaotic but carry such groove and pace that dancing is the only thing you can think of doing whilst listening to them. Moments like This is Something and My Brother ... read more
I can see this growing on me more but I'm glad I decided to check out this new La Femme record as it hit me with a rush of well crafted, gorgeous and at times theatrical leaning pop music with some amazing production and beautiful synth work. Towards the mid-point of the album, at about Disconnexion, the project hits a stride with one great track after another all the way until the closer. Gonna have to check out more stuff from them as this was a nice little surprise in a year where not too ... read more
More euphoric vibes from the head of PC Music, this mix sees AG crafting dreamy reworks, revisions and remixes of a range of different songs and it all flows together quite well. Dream Logic definitely feels like a further extension of the sonic world that 7G and Apple brought us into and I'm not mad at that at all. The Oneohtrix Point Never remix that kicks this thing off is brilliant! Other highlights include Changing, a great collaboration with Danger Incorporated, XCXoplex, the 2 remixes of ... read more
Such a brilliant comeback single! Full of groove and great ideas and Nai Palm's vocals are beautiful. Also THOSE STRINGS WTF!! The song ends on a very intriguing note so I'm excited to see how their new full length turns out! Keen!
My second project from The Horrors I've checked out after really enjoying their album V and this is an interesting change of pace. Very noisy and abrasive in comparison to the pulsating shoegazey sound from that album but I really enjoyed these 3 tracks, particularly the title track Lout. Not sure if this sound is gonna inform whatever their next album sounds like but if it is then I'm excited!
Remove the first whispering growl cringe bullshit from Corpse's verse and you've got an enjoyably rowdy little banger on your hands with an ear-piercing beat that really works for me. MGK sounds pissed off and it's great, I'm not a fan of Corpse at all, despise his music, but his screams and yelps fit the song and I wish he'd do that more instead of that ASMR growl bullshit. Conflicted on this but the weird beat and energy might keep me coming back to it.
No Rome and The 1975 perfect the bouncy house sounds they've tried in the past on songs like TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME and bring along Charli XCX to join the party and it's amazing! Despite being very much a poppy song, this manages to bring the chaotic energy from Charli's recent work with some insane layering of vocals and sounds towards the end of the track that give it a euphoric 'spinning' feel! Love it!
This was an absolute blast! I've been a casual fan of Danny L Harle's songs and production work from his PC Music days through to his recent series of Harlecore remixes for other artists and all of this has now culminated in a hell of a debut album that puts a modern spin on 90s eurodance and rave music. The album is framed as an escapist fictional nightclub with 4 artists behind the boards, DJ Danny, DJ Mayhem, MC Boing and DJ Ocean, with each different one bringing their unique sounds to the ... read more
This project, deluxe, whatever, is basically Trippie Redd's own Tickets to My Downfall with production from Travis Barker and a pop punk sound and while it's a sound I thought could suit Trippie he doesn't really do too much with the sounds Barker provides for him. There's a certain aimlessness in a lot of his lyrics and crooning across this project almost like a lot of it was freestyled and that might work for the low effort trap Trippie usually makes but on a project like this it doesn't ... read more
Love Peggy but I don't think I can see my self coming back to this again. The production is smooth and well crafted and does feel like an evolution from Cornballs and EP! which are both great releases, but apart from the lyrics on a few tracks and the slick autotune delivery from JPEG this mostly goes in one ear and out the other for me. Wish it was more engaging because All My Hero's Are Cornballs has a similarly mellow vibe for a lot of it's runtime and is one of my favorite recent rap ... read more
Simple and sweet bedroom indie with some beautiful guitars and grooves. Claud also is quite the brilliant songwriter and they bring both very relateable and very personal writing to the table for this album. Worth a listen for sure!
