Ben Redlawsk - sound only travels as far as we care to hear
82

This is an awesome album from a guy that I just found out about roughly an hour ago. The writing is beautiful and the vocals and music complement the cold, fragile tone.

Going ahead and rating this bc I'm not too certain that all of these songs will be put into a studio album. As you might expect, this project is really impressive.

I found most of the choruses present to be repetitive and uninspired, but the production at hand was pretty consistently good and made some of the songs more enjoyable to listen to. While this was a quick listen and sometimes engaging, I mostly just found myself indifferent to the songs. The sections where it was just noises and samples was a bit more amusing and interesting to me.

I found MF Tomlinson's last album to be thoroughly enjoyable and quite underrated, and he hit the mark yet again. Hopefully this one gets more attention.

Imagine having a good voice and choosing to make this.

Paramore - This Is Why
83

Definitely delivered on the hype, but I'm imagining it'll still grow on me after this initial listen.

John Cale - Mercy
72

Pretty much the title track off of Blackstar if it was just the moody, whispery stuff. Good production and Cale is pulling through after all these years.

Samia - Honey
63

Disappointing. I really enjoyed Samia's first album when that came out. This one had a bit too much auto-tune, too little energy, but was overall pretty decently crafted.

RuPaul - Black Butta
46

I actually enjoyed the first track on here a good bit. Not a good album overall, but better than the last RuPaul album.

Ropes Inside A Hole - A Man And His Nature
83

I expected a very well performed album—which I definitely got—but did not expect the pristinely-mixed, dark soundscape that the band fully delivered on.

"@Sgt_PuRpLe doesn't sound remotely like the Beatles, but...quality-wise I don't think there is much of a discrepancy when compared to their early work"
On Sammy Rae & The Friends - Chapter One
"Yeah, but that's not to say any of these songs aren't technically 90s. Just kinda a mix of my enjoyment and what I appreciated. My mom likes this group a lot and I honestly wasn't expecting to like it this much, but I definitely appreciated the dynamic nature of the vocals+instrumentals bc you don't find that often. I guess it just comes down to I don't think any of the songs are currently going to sit with me as favorite songs and I would only give songs as high as a 90 if they were relatively some of the best I'd ever heard."
