This definitely does not deserve a 70 because it’s such a mixed bag, but the brilliant songs definitely outweigh the mediocre tracks on here. Firstly, the opening title track is genuinely one of the best and weirdest things that The Killers have ever done. I immediately loved it within the first 20 seconds, and it only gets better as it goes along. However, it does set you up to believe that this album will be as grand and different as this opening track, but all hopes of that are ... read more
The only bad thing about this song is that it isn’t long enough. It manages to be fast and energetic as well as beautiful (with the instrumental) at the same time. Has to be one of the best songs Denzel’s brought out, even though it’s practically not even his own song, and it’s up with some of the best songs on TA13OO.
So... you’re telling me... that this... is a studio album... released by Radiohead. British experimental rock group Radiohead consisting of Thom Yorke on vocals, Jonny Greenwood and Ed O’Brien on guitar, Colin Greenwood on bass, and Philip Selway on drums, made this album? You’ve got to be joking. The only song on this album that sounds remotely like it came from Radiohead is You. I mean, I didn’t expect great things from this album, but this is a whole other type of ... read more
This album is incredibly messy, but in a beautiful way. I do love this album, maybe even more than Flower Boy, but it just misses the mark for an 85, because there is barely any lyrical cohesiveness between the songs. While this album may not have as many stand out songs as Flower Boy, except for maybe What’s Good, I fo prefer it because every song is great, which wasn’t the case for me with Flower Boy. There’s a whole lotta bass on some of these songs, but specially ... read more
Just like with Be Nothing, I didn’t really appreciate this EP at first, but it grew so quickly, and has some of the best Boston Manor songs in the form of Gone and Trapped Nerve. It’s quite similar to Be Nothing in terms of their own unique version of pop punk, and I’ve gotta say I really do like that sound. The lyrics are amazing and extremely heartfelt, especially on Shade, you can tell that they’re so genuine, and it adds so much to this EP.

This has gotta be the worst Swans album I’ve heard so far. And it’s still great. There are a lot of massively high points on this album, and then some kinda mediocre points like Reeling The Liars In. This album is like an amalgamation of the next three Swans albums, with the pristine instrumentation of The Seer (Inside Madeline), the animalistic fury of To Be Kind (My Birth), and the mantra-like vocals of The Glowing Man (No Words/No Thoughts). I really like how the entire song of ... read more
Pretty much, Mutemath makes some of the best songs on Blurryface better... as well as Ride and Heathens. This seems like a massive part of my childhood but it’s only 3 years old what the fuck? It’s kinda ironic that the most reviewed album Mutemath has isn’t even accredited to their own AOTY page.
Favourite Track: Tear In My Heart
I find it very strange how fans of Fall Out Boy at the time hated this album. I mean, they managed to pull off a Lil Wayne feature well! At least it shows that fans weren’t always stans, who just say they love everything that the band brings out, even if they actually don’t. I have seen people who say Mania is perfect way too many times.
Favourite Tracks: I Don’t Care, 20 Dollar Nose Bleed, What A Catch Donnie
Least Favourite Track: She’s My Winona
Gorillaz’ debut EP gives a good taste for what’s to come in the future with some great songs, including some of the best songs that didn’t make it on the debut album, 12D3 and the English version of Latin Simone. I do kinda prefer the English version over the Spanish version, not because of the language barrier though, mainly because I prefer Damon’s voice to Ibrahim Ferrer’s. The title track is one of the best Gorillaz songs, and certainly one of the best from ... read more
Such a good EP, with some of the best stuff Mutemath’s ever released. The versions of tracks from their self-titled that are on this, are nearly as good as they were on that, and overall the EP is better than their self-titled. The drumming on the title track is some of the best I’ve ever heard, and the way it’s mixed with the electronics is brilliant. I really feel these guys need more recognition, especially their earlier stuff.
Favourite Track: Control
This is a fun pop punk EP for the most part, with some good lyrics, but nowhere near as good as Fall Out Boy’s following albums. Patrick Stump’s voice on this isn’t that good however, it just sounds a bit flat. Calm Before The Storm isn’t as good as the Take This To Your Grave, it’s quite different actually, but still good. It’s certainly an enjoyable EP, but the quality isn’t really there.
Favourite Track: The World’s Not Waiting
This is really good, but of course nowhere near as good as TA13OO. I’ve got to say, I agree with people saying there aren’t as many strong hooks as TA13OO, but damn, it still has a lot of strong hooks. Denzel’s rapping all over this is fast-paced and brilliant, especially on Gook, my favourite track on the album. I like that ULT references Black Metal Terrorist, a track that wasn’t even released at the time, which shows how Denzel’s trying to connect all his work. ... read more
It’s Arcade Fire making another amazing album, not really a big surprise. Such a good indie rock record. Some of Arcade Fire’s best lyrics to date, and the instrumentation and vocals from both Win Butler and Régine Chassagne come together perfectly as always. Nearly a 95, but just not entirely there.
Favourite Tracks: The Suburbs, Rococo, Ready To Start
Least Favourite Track: Modern Man
Certainly an interesting EP, seeing as it’s all over the place, ranging from the short but brutal No Fun Club to a cover of You Are My Sunshine. The track BFF is the best track on here, as it sounds great obviously, and seems so sincere, like Frank’s first album, probably because it was written around that time. A bit too short for me to have too many thoughts on it, but I enjoyed it.
Favourite Track: BFF
I mean, it’s ok. Matt Skiba’s vocals are pretty bad, and the lyrics on the chorus are terrible, but apart from that there aren’t any other major problems. There are, however more minor problems, like how it sounds a bit generic, and doesn’t really go anywhere. Mark Hoppus’ vocals certainly aren’t what they used to be, but he certainly makes up for it with the lyrics in the verses, which I think are pretty good, at least compared to the chorus. Travis ... read more
Sure, I expected this to be great... but did I expect it to be this brilliant? Not even close. This tops every other Blur album for me, and even the entirety of other Damon Albarn projects. Going into this having listened to the singles, you would think this would be a lighter Blur album, with two of the singles being love songs, but you could never be more wrong by thinking that. At points, this album is heavy, experimental, crazy, and just purely brilliant. We start off with Tender, a song ... read more
How did I miss the release of this? I just found out about it today. This definitely isn’t one of my favourite Idles songs, but it’s still really good. It’s a grower, especially seeing as it’s a bit slower than most Idles songs. This is a bit of a step away musically, being a bit more low-key for the most part, but still with the usual brilliant political lyricism. I can see this maybe being an album opener, and I’m hesitantly excited for the new album, which ... read more
Weezer seems to think they’re going back to the sound of the Blue Album on this, or at least it’s suggested on Back To The Shack, but I don’t think that it’s anything like that. It seems that Weezer’s using a sound that they haven’t had before, and the only thing they’re returning to is a proper rock sound. That’s not saying that this sound is that much worse than the Blue Album’s sound, I really enjoy this album. Weezer does some great shit ... read more
This grew on me really damn quick. Denzel’s gotta be my favourite rapper right now.
This is a really good album. There’s a few moments on the record that seem a bit boring (and no, I’m not talking about Boredom), and I didn’t really like that Lil Wayne feature, mainly because I don’t like his voice, but apart from those, it’s pretty good. Where This Flower Blooms is a brilliant track, and that bridge from Tyler is literally the shit. See You Again is certainly my favourite song on the album, and the only one I had heard before I listened to the ... read more
