At this point, Pinkerton isn’t even an album anymore, it’s just a meme, because of all the quotes that could be just plucked from it and put into memes, nearly to the same level as ITAOTS. That being said, I’d still give it a 90, -10 points for no wrestling with Jimmy. Also, why does Rivers talk about his “sex life” on here, we all know he’s a virgin to this day.
Favourite Tracks: No Other One, El Scorcho, Pink Triangle
Least Favourite Track: Why Bother?
I’m so confused, I’ve been looking through these reviews and noticing a lot of people have One as their least favourite track. One’s my favourite track! Idk, they can have their opinion, but I just love that song. Definitely my favourite Vampire Weekend album. The sound that stays consistent with every song, but varies enough to sound interesting, is extremely fun, enjoyable, and even charming. For some reason the version of the album that my dad had was missing Cape Cod ... read more
I think this is one extremely overrated album, probably the most overrated of Green Day’s album. My problem with this is that a few of the songs here are just really hard to differentiate, they just sound the same, like Brat and Stuck With Me. However, the tracks that stand out on this one, EXTREMELY stand out, like 86 and the brilliant Panic Song. And we also have Brain Stew which is obviously the best song on the album. Probably could’ve been cut down a bit to avoid repetition, ... read more
This track and the fact that he featured on Earth has pretty much solidified that Brendon Urie... is now a sellout. Can we get an F in the chat?
I’m pretty impressed by this album. It shows that Frank Iero’s quite talented outside of the confines of My Chemical Romance. He’s a pretty good singer, the album has some great lyrics, and his guitar work is amazing as usual. Some of these songs are quite sentimental songs about a past love, and even through the punk-ish sound this is communicated really well, especially by his vocals on tracks like Weighted. This album is pretty front-loaded, as all of the first 6 songs are ... read more
Rock The House is pretty overrated, still a great song but just not to be put at the same level as other great Gorillaz songs like 19-2000. M1 A1 is very overhated, I could see if a band like Swans came out with it, everyone on this site would be saying the song’s brilliant because of how “experimental” it is and the “animalistic” tendencies. But yeah, I kinda enjoy the idea of this album more than I like the album, because of tracks like Starshine and Latin Simone ... read more
A few of the tracks sound a bit similar (not to the point of being like Insomniac, where half of the tracks sound the exact same), but it’s still incredibly enjoyable, with some really witty lyricism on cuts like Longview. A few obvious classics are on here like Basket Case, and Welcome To Paradise, two of my favourite Green Day songs. I’ve got to commend it for being the album that got me into Green Day, which American Idiot failed to, even though I do prefer American Idiot ... read more
I’ve had a lot of time to think about all of Vampire Weekend’s albums, having listened to them for years, and while not my favourite of their albums, Modern Vampires Of The City is probably the most intricate and mature of their albums to date. This album mirrors it’s cover, as it is quite dark, but the album manages to seem happy and innocent at the same time, perhaps trying to mask the darkness of the lyrics with the fun instrumentals on most tracks, especially on Diane ... read more
I’m supposed to be from a completely different comic universe, but I feel like Thanos, because this does put a smile on my face. Seriously, I was grinning all the way through listening to this.
Favourite Tracks: Plastic Boogie, Boogieman Sam, Fishing For Fishies
Least Favourite Track: The Cruel Millenial
This is Arcade Fire’s least ambitious and definitely worst album. I really liked it at first, but it just grew weary on me after repeated listens. Everything Now, the title track, is still an amazing song, and the album gets better towards the end with songs like Put Your Money On Me. It’s good, doesn’t really have any terrible songs, just not many great ones.
Favourite Tracks: Everything Now, Put Your Money On Me, Electric Blue
Least Favourite Track: Chemistry
This album can be really fucking pretentious at some points, but for the majority of it it’s really good. Undisclosed Desires is a lot better of an attempt at pop than some of the songs in Simulation Theory. The singles are the best tracks, but I just can’t really get into Exogenesis: Symphony, even though I think it’s still okay. Parts of United States Of Eurasia sound EXACTLY like Queen, but apart from that uncanny similarity, it’s a great song. Kinda weird that the ... read more
This was the first album that I genuinely thought was perfect. Clearly I don’t think that anymore, but it’s still an brilliant album, with not a single bad song on it, and some obvious iconic songs that still hold up to this day. Andy, You’re A Star, despite being a lesser-known track, has always been, and will probably continue to be, as the song’s lyrics paired with the story behind it is just amazing. This isn’t an album you would want to miss out on. It’s ... read more
I enjoyed this quite a bit actually, even though it was completely different than what I expected. I hadn’t listened to any other Kevin Abstract stuff before this, and no Brockhampton either, so I was basing my expectations solely off good reviews and the album cover. And from the insane nature of the album cover, I kinda expected this to be more aggressive rap. However, I was not disappointed with what I got instead. First off, the production on this is heavenly, genuinely. Kevin uses ... read more
The Glowing Man, while being my least favourite of the trilogy, is also probably the one I can say least about. Tracks like Cloud Of Forgetting and Cloud Of Unknowing especially grew on me over time, but there’s still just some points, in the first half of the record at least, that don’t seem up to Swans standard and maybe feel a bit dry, like on The World Looks Red, even though it’s still an okay track. The first couple of minutes of Frankie M also seem a bit boring, but it ... read more
I STEAL ALL THE OXYGEN!
This album was amazing for me from first listen, and I was actually originally going to give it a 95 after that first listen, but over the next 7 listens I began to notice a few things that got on my nerves a bit, like how Some Things We Do is kinda just recycling the idea they already used in Screen Shot, and how Nathalie Neal is a bit too repetitive, even for Swans. Some Things we do, however still has a great instrumental, and Nathalie Neal is a good song overall, I ... read more
This may be quite a controversial opinion, especially for Anthony Fantano, but this is my favourite of the Swans trinity. It’s almost flawless in my opinion. Every time I listen to Lunacy I feel as if I’m fucking transcending. Just the build-up to when they start chanting “LUNACY LUNACY” is brilliant. The Wolf, the shortest track, acts as a great prelude to The Seer, with the majority of it just being Michael Gira’s voice with a few guitar strums and then some ... read more
Lift is genuinely the shit. It beats out about half of OK Computer, and I literally gave that a perfect score.
Disc 1: 50/50
Disc 2: 45/50
Favourite Tracks: Lift, Palo Alto, Man Of War
Least Favourite Track: Meeting In The Aisle
This is a pretty good middle-ground between the instrumentation on Canada Songs and actually singing like on You Won’t Get What You Want. A lot of it does sound kinda the same, but not that similar that you can’t tell songs apart easily. The guitar work, while quite similar to their previous effort, is quite a bit better, and while it does practically assault you, it sounds great. The really gruesome stories told on tracks such as The Fuck Whisperer, and especially on Cheers Pricks, ... read more
Hmmm what’s bothering me is people not giving an honest review. Some of you giving them a low review just because you don’t like the fan base which is unfair. Also why do people keep mentioning bots, quit it and start acknowledge the huge achievements they made. Now I personally love the album and think it’s one of their best. I find it’s amazing how they were able to reference irony in their music single. It’s nice to see artists staying true to themselves and ... read more
Surprisingly enough, I listened to this record before I even considered listening to My Chemical Romance, which is probably the opposite with most people. So, as it’s the album that led me to listen to my favourite album of all time, I felt it was fitting that I make this my 100th rating. This is one kickass solo record from Gerard, that still holds up to this day. I’m tempted to give this an 85, but I’m just gonna keep it at an 80 now. This is quite a fast-paced record, with ... read more
