Just a bit overrated in my opinion. Some songs that people seem to say are amazing like Stylo and To Binge, I just can’t find that much in. They’re still nice, just nothing that special in my opinion. Of course, I still really like this album, I’ve given it an 80, I just don’t think it deserves the title of best Gorillaz album that is frequently given to it. I prefer Demon Days and their self-titled by a mile. I love moments like Superfast Jellyfish and Sweepstakes that ... read more
Holy shit. This just blew me the fuck away. I mean, I think the last album I loved this much after the second listen is OK Computer. And after about 7 listens I can safely say this is one of my 15 favourite albums of all time. I can see how this might have influenced some amazing bands like Arcade Fire and Car Seat Headrest (though in the case of CSH that’s only speculation). Never has a man been able to tell me so much by just singing “dee dee dee dee dee”. I’ve been ... read more
Stfu this is great. What do you mean I’m only giving this such a high score because I’ve been a twenty one pilots fan for 3 years now and this has sentimental value carried along with the lyrics? Pfffft, no, that’s not it. No, but seriously I love this album a lot and even considered giving it a 90 (I only didn’t because I like it less than Trench and I don’t think Trench deserves more than an 85), and I’d prefer if I wasn’t brutally slaughtered for ... read more
This is true beauty. Everything is just so perfect, except for maybe the mixing not being the best. One of those albums that you can feel right calling an experience.
Favourite Tracks: Wake Up, Neighbourhood #2 (Laika), Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)
Least Favourite Track: Une année sans lumière
I am pretty disappointed in this album. After listening to two stunning albums, their self-titled and Evil Empire, I listen to this, and I can barely find anything that actually hooked me into the album apart from the lyrics. There are still great songs on this album, but for the most part, it seems quite lacklustre compared to Rage’s other two projects. For some reason, when the guitar’s explode into the chorus, it’s not fun and exciting, it just all sounds uninteresting and ... read more
This is nowhere near as good as Rage’s debut, but goddamn is it still amazing. It’s banger after banger on this one. I really only have 2 major problems with this one. It doesn’t really blatantly express the anger that they brought on the first album, and on some of the songs there seems to be some sort of distortion on Zack’s voice, and even though I feel that could’ve worked, it just didn’t do it for me. It makes it hard to understand some lyrics which ... read more
I can’t stop listening to this, it’s so goddamn great. I’ve been listening to this AT LEAST 2 times a day for the past 6 days. This is my first proper venture into metal surprisingly, and even though in some ways I don’t think I should have started with a rap metal album, I’m kinda glad I did. At first I didn’t really like this. I didn’t really dislike it either, but I didn’t think it was good. Of course I decided to listen to it again, and I ... read more
I just love the contrast between the sad lyrics and fun poppy tunes. Except for 26 of course. It’s just plain depressing, no fun poppiness about it. It’s one of 4 songs that have nearly made me cry (2 of them from Paramore). My one gripe with this album is No Friend, as it had a good concept but wasn’t really carried out well, and didn’t fit with the rest of the album.
Favourite Tracks: Hard Times, Idle Worship, Rose-Colored Boy
Least Favourite Track: No Friend
Sure, you can pretend that this isn’t good because it doesn’t come close to The Black Parade, but (and I don’t use this term lightly) it bops. And the lyrics are great.
Favourite Tracks: Na Na Na, Party Poison, Destroya
Least Favourite Track: Summertime
I don’t think Brad knows how to credit it as a collaboration release.
Sure, Pinkerton’s good, and it’s a lot more emotional than the Blue Album, which works really well for it, but it probably will never be as good as this in my opinion. After listening to Pinkerton for the first time it was my favourite Weezer album for months, but the Blue Album eventually won me over with its limitless charm and fun nature. It’s a great combination of brilliant rock instrumentation that capture the feelings that Rivers trying to get across on many of the ... read more
I would have given this a 70, but I want the average score to be kept at the big funny haha 69 number, because it fits this album so well, and it isn’t that much of a difference anyway.
Favourite Tracks: Stay Together For The Kids, Anthem Part Two, Online Songs
Least Favourite Track: Happy Holidays You Bastard (it’s supposed to be funny but it’s just not)
I think that industrial rock isn’t maybe the thing for me, but even with that thought, this is a pretty good record. I seem to enjoy the energetic and thrashing songs more than the droning ones, with the exception of City Song, as even though it’s probably the most droning one on here, it’s my favourite song. Alexis Marshall’s harsh voice works really well along with the instruments here. There’s something that just keeps bringing me back to this record and I ... read more
A really solid post-hardcore emo album. Andrew Fisher’s voice is nowhere near as good as any of the other albums, even Colourmeinkindness which was only a year later. It’s a lot louder than the other albums, definitely the most hardcore and punk leaning of their records. The lyrics are hard to hear at some points, but if you actually read into it, it’s pretty good lyrically. There’s not really much else I can say about this, but I definitely recommend it to anyone into ... read more
Sure, it’s pretty immature at some points, but at least not in the same way as many other pop punk bands of the time, and most importantly it’s fun and energetic. They hadn’t reached their full potential here, as Patrick Stump’s voice sounding a bit underdeveloped, and the instrumentals aren’t as perfected here as they would be on later records, but for a debut, it’s brilliant. The lyrics have a really good mix of wholesome (Grenade Jumper) to absolutely ... read more
I really think that this album could have been a lot better if they hadn’t recorded it while Gerard had a fucking dental abscess. This is just really messy, and not in a good way. Honey This Mirror and Vampires Will Never Hurt You are amazing tracks and the vocal high point, and seemingly the only well-produced tracks. Drowning Lessons and Headfirst For Halos are produced okay, and Drowning Lessons has some great guitar riffs, but is overall unimpressive. Headfirst For Halos used to be my ... read more
Before you go writing off my musical taste because of this score, at least read my reasoning. This can be extremely cringe at some points. I can just imagine Shrek downloading The Globalist, while saying “This one’s going in my cringe compilation.” But I love it. The song Drones makes me laugh every time. I swear to god, Matt Bellamy has to be delusional. How did he think anyone would like him singing like a goddamn gospel choir, about being killed by drones. It’s ... read more
This is peak Britpop. This is what their previous 2 albums aspired to be. In my opinion, of course. There’s not a boring moment on this album, the characters presented in songs like Ernold Same and Dan Abnormal, and especially Charmless Man are better than ever. Charmless Man is one of those few songs that’s able to pull of “na na na”s, because it contributes to the energy of the song, and the charisma in Damon’s voice is cranked up to 100 on it. Fade Away is a ... read more
The aesthetic is strong on this one.
