Wheezy lays down incredible production only for Nav to massacre any chance this album had at being decent.
First off, I need to say that the intro is horrible. There are way better news report intros in rap albums and I was starting to think that it was an intro you couldn't mess up. Guess I was wrong.
Anyway, this rating doesn't properly display how good Wheezy's production was on here. This album was very well produced as each track was lively and very unique on the instrumental front. ... read more
So this is a single by Lil Tecca I mean, uhhh, StaySolidRocky. Yeah continuing off of that this guy is literally just Lil Tecca. Only difference is that Tecca has hints of energy and vibrance in his tracks. This on the other hand is just incredibly boring and robotic. The beat is pretty bottom-of-the-barrel for a trap beat and vocally Rocky is completely drained of anything interesting. The lyrics are also awful. I mean, rhyming too with too is something an elementary school kid does when ... read more
The only thing that's a positive for this track is the incredibly catchy hook. Outside of that, the rest of this track is pretty awful. The beat is incredibly basic and reminds me of an older Blueface beat, which is coincidental when considering that Heem's verse sounds like a Blueface verse too. In his verse he tried to speed up lines to stay on beat (like Blueface) but failed every time and as a result it all sounded really messy. Vocally he gets really annoying in a really fast time. He ... read more
There's just too much wrong with this.
First off, one of the worst hooks I've heard all year. It's just super basic dance instructions that are told through incredibly awful vocals. The instrumental is one of the corniest I've ever heard and the childish additional sound effects just come off as really stupid. Lyrically everyone fails to input anything of value and, just like all kid movie soundtracks that feature rappers, the artists don't try. I don't know if anyone remembers the track ... read more
JPEGMAFIA releases a compilation of past singles that still makes for a solid project regardless of my disappointment.
Yeah, I got excited when I first saw this. I mean, can you blame me? I was definitely ready for a new JPEG album, and then the realization hit me the same way it hit everyone else. Regardless, all the singles on here are still absolutely incredible and if these were all fresh releases my rating would easily be upwards of 90.
One of my favorite aspects of JPEG's music is how a ... read more
While it definitely isn't better than the original, it's still pretty good. Ferg definitely performs better than Choppa in terms of feature performances, and the AG Club doesn't really change anything about their performances around which is totally fine. Overall it's a solid single. A$AP Ferg definitely exceeded my expectations on here as he suited the beat incredibly well and had a really nice sound of aggression throughout.
The Kid LAROI ruins a fairly good original project by tossing in a snooze fest and an accompaniment of bad features.
Let me just start off by saying that I thought the original wasn't that bad. It was energetic, it was fun, and it stood out. This however is horrible.
PIKACHU is without a doubt the only track I'd ever consider listening to again as at least that track has a hint of energy. Everything else is just so drained and unenthusiastic. SO DONE is also included on here which is still ... read more
First off this beat is possibly the most basic beat I've ever heard (I'm not even over exaggerating). Blueface was Blueface which automatically means he did bad and Choppa performed so lazily on this track. Basic flows, dumb lyrics that refer to way too much stupid bathroom humor, and a bad sound. There's not a single redeeming quality here, it's just a sad heap of derivative and unenjoyable trap. Horrible.
AG Club drops an incredibly wavy project that overall has an amazing sound.
Ok, first of all, I'm confused. Not at the album, but by the reception. Is a group of people sounding like a different phenomenal group of people a bad thing? If every member resembles a fabulous artist I'd say that's more of a benefit as opposed to a downside.
Anyway, the chemistry is pretty incredible on here. The back and forth between the members feels so natural and they all flow together so smoothly. Each ... read more
There was a time when I used to think Rich the Kid was somewhat of an interesting artist. I used to think his voice stood out and his style was at least a little bit unique. Yeah now that's all gone. His voice has gotten stale, so much so that now it's just incredibly annoying. The instrumental used here is very generic and lacks entertainment. Rich's flow is the same flow he's used throughout most of his career and his bars are some of the dumbest here that they've ever been. Garbage, ... read more
Blaq Poet and Serious Truth collab for an impressive classic sounding project.
Heading into this listen, I've never heard of Blaq Poet. I thought the album title and cover art were interesting so I took to Spotify to give it a try. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed.
Lyrically Blaq Poet consistently performs a rhyme pattern that needs to be used by more modern hip hop artists. That pattern being syllabic rhymes. The ability to rhyme numerous different tiny parts of words with a similar ... read more
Cookin' Soul releases a compilation album that consists of too many language changes throughout.
There are a few times on this album where the songs transition from a song in English to a song in Spanish. This can make the album feel pretty inconsistent (at least for me) because a fair amount of the songs I can't understand.
Numerous different artists make appearances on here. Those include YG, Nipsey Hussle, ONYX, Dope D.O.D, Delaossa, Easy-S, Khaled, Kaydy Cain, Conway, Curren$y, CK ... read more
Yikes.
First off, it's literally two different songs. The transition between them was also horrible and sounded so broken up. Drake wasn't half bad. The hook was catchy and his verse was whatever for a Drake verse. And then, all of a sudden, Future tells us that life is good. Shortly after he says that though, while life may be good, the song from that point on wasn't. Future was so hard to comprehend and has a very lazy slur flow over a basic trap beat. Future also proceeded to have a ton ... read more
I just got done listening to That's a Fact and I thought that French was incapable of getting worse at drill music after that. Well, look where we are now. The instrumental here is a downgrade from That's a Fact considering that at least That's a Fact had somewhat of a creative instrument use for a drill beat. This however is just an incredibly basic and boring beat. Vocally French is ear cancer on this track with crappy autotune and a very strange overall sound. Pop's presence is also ... read more
Who gave this guy the idea to try drill music?
This track is atrocious. The flow is so off and it doesn't sync up with the instrumental at all. French also gives himself a very stereotypical accent for this track which sounds so wrong and isn't even close to sounding like a legitimate drill artist. French is just as god awful lyrically as he's always been, and although he raised his tone, he's still boring. The instrumental is nice, which is the only good thing I can say about this track. ... read more
Skilla Baby & Sada Baby team up for an incredibly basic and boring trap album.
One of the main issues is that while Sada Baby is definitely the better artist of the two, Skilla Baby gets way more time on this project. Which is horrible because Skilla Baby is garbage. His flows are generic and almost never fit the beat, his vocals are basic, his bars are weak, and overall he's just way too boring.
There isn't a single song on here that I'd ever listen to again. The whole project just ... read more
MIKE comes through with an amazing abstract rap record that only suffers from being easily comparable to previous work.
Continuing off of what I just said, the main reason why I don't think this album is any better is because it's pretty easy to reference this album to stuff he's dropped before. It's understandable to have a recognizable sound, but you should be able to do different things with it.
In terms of the production, I absolutely love it. It's very well-crafted and beautifully ... read more
A solid trap banger with a steady flow and a nice instrumental. Ameer used a very entertaining rhyme scheme and flow and managed to maintain a very interesting personality. The instrumental, while not really standing out in any way, is still pretty good. Ameer also suited the beat pretty well. The main upside of this track was Ameer's flow. It was well-paced, hyper, and fairly unique. Overall this was a pretty good track. Definitely an above average trap song.
Yung Lean drops a project that sounds like Bladee done correctly.
While listening to this, I was sensing a lot of similarities to most of Bladee's work, the only difference is that this actually isn't that bad. Vocally Lean is very relaxed and while it does make for some rough performances throughout, overall he doesn't do too bad.
Every track does a mediocre job at being diverse and all in all this album is fairly versatile. Yung Lean does a pretty good job at taking a style that's ... read more
This might be the laziest Drake has ever been on a song. The vocals are so bland and dead that I almost fell asleep listening to this. The beat is incredibly basic (from Khaled I'd expect nothing less) and due to this Drake becomes increasingly derivative as the track goes on. Drake maintains a lazy flow and hardly tries with the lyrics (or at least his writers didn't try, I didn't see who wrote this). There is not a single redeeming quality anywhere in this song.
