Bladee releases his first project that isn't bad.
I've been waiting for a Bladee release that I actually enjoy, but now I longer have to wait. In my previous reviews of Bladee's work I mentioned that a style change was mandatory in making Bladee's music have quality. Well, that style change is here and with it came a decent release. Bladee added much needed energy and vibrance to his music that makes for something to latch onto. Hopefully he keeps going on this path, because I don't want ... read more
It's alright, there just isn't any joy or energy here. I would've liked Chance's voice to be more vibrant and stand out a lot more than it does. The production is pretty good. The piano is a nice inclusion and the bass sounds pretty smooth and compliments the piano nicely. The beat sets up Chance for something great, the only issue is that Chance can't utilize the great beat he's been given. He also stick to one flow the whole time. While it's a really good and unique flow, the track ... read more
Trippie Redd release an incredibly drained and super lazy project.
I originally didn't care about this release enough to take my time to listen to it, but as of right now there aren't a lot of new releases that are really grabbing my attention so I thought that I might as well listen to this now. Anyway, did someone tell Trippie that it was ok to stop trying? There is no effort made by him at all throughout this whole project. This whole 26 track project at that. Trippie Redd at his best ... read more
This style of song has just been done so much and it's been executed a lot better on numerous occasions. The production on here is pretty alright. It's pretty upbeat and sets a nice mood, however Big Sean just isn't the right artist to put over this type of beat. He didn't fit this instrumental at all and it made for a pretty clunky sound when he was performing. The melody on the beat is okay and some of the drums sound pretty weird and out of place if you really focus on them. Jack Harlow ... read more
Killah Priest and Jordan River Banks fuse a spacey and trippy sound with a classic hip hop vibe.
All of the sounds here blend together incredibly well. When I was thinking about how a more cosmic style of production with classic bars and flows, I really didn't picture it coming together well. Needless to say, I was very wrong. This was a very solid project. They make for a duo that, while having an odd premise, come together very well and they're both capable of really holding their weight ... read more
The lyrical substance on this track is so dry and bland to the point where it gets tedious and the song isn't even three minutes long. It started to get tiring to hear every single bar relate to something that reminds both artists of someone. I never expect much on the lyrical front from either of these two, but they really could've tried harder. This is also one of the laziest LAROI choruses I've heard because of this. Anyway, the other aspects of the track aren't that bad. The ... read more
I really like the vibe that this track gives. It's very deep and emotional but it isn't overdone in any way. There's also a strong feeling of relatability here as the whole time you can really feel connected to the artists. The chorus is easily the best part of this track. The vocals presented on it are amazing and the beat is at its best during the chorus. The chorus is also a key contributor to the uniqueness of this track as you really can't find anything like it in most other tracks. ... read more
I wanted to like this track, I really did, but I just can't. First off, the production is pretty amazing. It's hyper, it's unique, the melody is amazing and overall it sounds great. This is far from the issue though, the issue is Mario Judah. His vocals really went downhill when he became more aggressive. I'm a pretty big fan of his more theatrical and personality filled vocals that he's used to using, but here he throws that all away just for a shameless Carti impression. While at first ... read more
The Koreatown Oddity releases one of the most unique and diverse experiences in hip hop this year.
There truly isn't anything like this. I've never heard so many different corners of hip hop come together this well and for that reason alone this project deserves recognition. Everything from the super trippy and unique instrumentals to the continuously morphing vocals make this project one to remember for a long time. There's no doubt that this appeals to all of my favorite aspects of hip ... read more
Rico Nasty releases a project with a large stylistic inconsistency that really holds it back.
It's like Rico had two separate ideas and decided that combining them was better than spreading them out among two different releases. Due to this, we basically get a release with a good and bad half. For the most part, the more aggressive side of this release is pretty good. Every aspect of it is pretty above average and there's a lot of uniqueness to be found throughout the tracks. The pop ... read more
Yeah this one's a flop, at least Errbody was decent I guess. The production on here is incredibly generic and Lil Baby really had a hard time fitting the instrumental. The melody was basic and the drum pattern was one that I've heard a ton of times before. Vocally Lil Baby constantly switches between sounding borderline annoying and sounding half asleep. He tried more of a singing style on here and it really didn't work. Lil Baby just needs to stick to what he's good at because it's clear ... read more
First off, there's no doubt that this track is much better than On Me. Lil Baby has always excelled on more aggressive instrumentals as opposed to the more melodic beats that he uses on occasion. In terms of flows, the only Lil Baby track that I've heard with better flows than this is The Bigger Picture. Lil Baby consistently had pretty interesting and well-constructed flows that really made this track entertaining. Lil Baby really didn't pick up the energy until his closing verse which is ... read more
Lil Uzi releases a project that really falls short of its expectations.
With all the anticipation for this release, it was clear that we were supposed to get a great listen out of this project. The expectations for this were very high, but ultimately I don't picture this project as being anything above mediocre. While it's one of Uzi's better records, it's still average at best and the main reason for that is Uzi. The idea of this project was that Uzi would combine multiple personalities, ... read more
This is Danny Towers? I mean I'm not complaining, this track is incredible. The instrumental shows resemblance of a 70s disco club vibe and it honestly sounds amazing and matches Danny's vocal approach perfectly. Vocally Danny was pretty stunning on this track. I was a really big fan of his vocals here as they definitely stood out. I never considered Danny to be an artist with real singing potential, so this really blew me away. There's just an unparalleled level of groove here. ... read more
Juice WRLD shows a fair amount of energy on here, which already makes this track better than most, if not all of Legends Never Die. The production could've been better. The melody kind of drags and there really isn't anything about the instrumental that stands out. Juice WRLD performs fairly well on this track though. His vocals are some of the best that he's had recently as there's a feel of happiness and glee in his voice. His vocals on here are also very smooth and fluent and they match ... read more
Rav takes you through a whirlwind of emotions and sounds in a quick span of 20 minutes.
This release really does bounce back and forth between sounds. One minute it's calm, then it's hardcore, then it's super emotional, then it's calm again. While Rav does a great job at every stylistic change he brings this way, this does make for the only real flaw that I found with this release. This is an issue for me because it gets to be hard to immerse yourself in these moods when the mood flips on ... read more
Lil Wayne does injustice to numerous different good instrumentals.
My main issue with this tape is that the original songs for all of these instrumentals are way better than Wayne's attempts at using them. The original We Paid is better, the original Life is Good is better, the original Murder on my Mind is better, the original For the Night is way better, I could keep going. Most of these tracks feel so pointless when you realize that the original tracks outshine these ones by so much. I'm ... read more
I meant to review this track way sooner but it slipped my mind. Anyway, this is easily one of my favorite songs from this year. The production is amazing. It's super chill and really takes you to another world. The melody on the beat is really gripping and the drums accompany the instrumental very well. Cam does an incredible job on the chorus and hook. His vocals were really good and fit the calm tone of this track perfectly with nice singing. Rejjie does a pretty good job on this track ... read more
Eminem releases a super messy and horribly unfocused project.
This record is all over the place and not in a good way. I think it really helps a record when it's able to maintain a set area of focus throughout the whole thing which is what this fails to do. Half of the time Eminem wants to show that he can get with the times and include newer artists and the other half of the time Eminem tries to go for a more classic sound and rap about how hip hop used to be. The two main points here are ... read more
The production is pretty alright. It does drag a little and doesn't match the energy that JHN and Ye brought to the track, but it isn't horrible. It has a little bit of an eerie and gloomy vibe which sounds decent. JHN really stands out with his vocals on this track. JHN takes more of an aggressive approach on this track vocally as compared to his recent project and I think it sounds pretty good. I wasn't really a fan of Kanye's vocals though. He had some pretty weird vocal effects used ... read more
