Damon and Elton play off each other really nicely, the best about this song, really. the way it grows and expands it's also well done, me thinks. 6lack kinda doesn't fit in, but his part is so small it's harmless, really.
3/4th of this is just ok, but there's 2-3 tracks here that are absolutely stellar. I dunno, if they make another record in this direction and finetune the production a bit i'd be way more on board than another crack-up.
not a big fan of Q tbh. the instrumental is solid but never feels like it builds up to anything. The abrupt ending doesn't help, either.
As always with SM as of now, everyone's got their likes and dislikes, since it's such an eclectic project.
Ranking so far: Desolè > Friday the 13th (y'all hatin') > Momentary Bliss > Aries > Pac-Man >>> that tony allen track that's really boring.
paraphrasing a YT comment, anthony's review is the quintessential "never smoked weed in my life" vibe.
can't say anything about the politics or message of the album, since i come from a very different geographical context, where racism is a thing too, but its history and socio-political implications are different from those of the US and Europe.
The music is good, some stand-out tracks here and there, but overall this is their weakest effort so far. The instrumentation and the song-writing felt a little flat and repetitive at times.
man this is a lovely reggae-infused pop track. Sweet melody, quirky synths (as per usual) cool off-kilter beat. Better than the last skepta track, truly. The ft. really has a unique voice that works well with Gorillaz' style, and the outro with the New Order Bassline works great. I dunno, I like this one a lot.
People saying "too much ft." need to stfu, you know Gorillaz' always been a heavy ft. project. Fucking move the fuck on, go listen to any other Damon project, he's done ... read more
both this and the last single were pretty boring and uninteresting. Mediocre, generic "rock" music that's about as dead as my interest in the new album.
denzel goes hard but the beats are... eh. Feels like it doesn't match D's energy, like they lag behind. I dunno, i just don't fuck with kenny that much. The freestyles are cool but it seems the dude lacks a bit of depth and finesse when it comes to a full blown release.
+4 bonus points for not being splendor and misery, but you barely made it, boys.
cool 30 min. freak-out. I like the idea of a soundcollage noisecore EP. Execution is sloppy and not as brutal as i guess it was going for. Still, new DG is always nice.
when the interludes are more fun to listen to that the actual songs you have a boring album in your hands, bro
Chill vibes, class intrumentals. By the book, yea, but super tight.
The hooks are really uninspired most of the time, tho. The whole thing just really loses momentum after GIOVANNI. Got some bops in it, tho.
