I mean, yeah it's pretty good. The band clearly has potential. I do have some problems with the release. It doesn't feel too original, the songs at times feel like they blend in together, and I feel the vocalist's performances and melodies throughout the album kinda just feel the same (long, sustained melodies with mild vocal distortion). None of these make the album bad, but they do hold it back, for me.

Finally listening to this album like two years late. In some sense it's a bit more consistent in style than God's Country, and it doesn't stray too far from the sound there, though it does end up sounding fatter, heavier, at least for me. A pure triumph of creativity and originality. It doesn't sound like a random mash-up of styles and ideas, but a developed, cohesive statement that is political and religious as it is musical. It's anticolonial music done with zeal and conviction.

Not a bad debut. Frankly, a lot of the songs sound like what the White Stripes should've sounded like. Properly raw, manic, and intense, coupled with psychedelic touches. At the end of the day though, blues-rock revivalism will only have so much appeal to me, and a lot of the melodies have some of those poppy indie cliches I'm not the biggest fan of. Perhaps most importantly, I know enough about the band to know that greater things are ahead of this, and that this isn't their ... read more
