Here comes a great project from Rocket Punch, full of retro synthpop and beautifully sounding.
Wooo we start with a super retro and energetic song, the energetic title track: “Ring Ring”, it has a nice production, with the synths that define the 80s sounds. It feels somewhat too much and cliché but it’s good! Little bad point for the halftime rap verse that cuts the mood a bit, but at least it brings some changes, and they manage to keep the melody in the ... read more
THIS IS SO GREAT
Modern take on 80s pop as its best! This is the sound I'm living for. I'm not surprised SG Lewis co-produced this as he did some very good stuff with a similar feeling, it's just even better. There's also a sort of angst and energy in the song that only MØ can deliver. I'm so happy to see her back and with something very strong.
First of all, I want to mention how excited I was about this release because of the concept, the way it places itself in Everglow’s story and how great their previous mini-album was.
‘LAST MELODY’ is a very Everglow project with the sound we can find in their other releases (‘-77.82X-78.29’ is a kind of exception), but in addition, I think it has a newer feel to it with new inspirations, even if they kind of lose themselves on the way and fall back to a more ... read more
Welp, it was about time BTS comeback with a new retro-ish song as this sound is making a huge comeback for a year or 2 now, and has been taking over k-pop around the time they released "Dynamite", which was very meh and way too overplayed. Will "Butter" know the same fate? Probably yeah.
I find the production rather ok with a nice retro vibe but as I said, this kind of song is more and more present in the k-pop and pop landscape as a whole ("Butter" being another ... read more
fromis_9 didn't disappoint at all with this release!
It opens with "Airplane Mode", a super well-produced song and it's my favorite one here. The bass line is very cool and groovy just how I like and we have nice synth and sweet vocals.
"WE GO" is really cool too, it follows the same direction as the opener but with more energy and a touch of summer to it.
For "Promise", we get something way calmer to end on a soft ballad that keeps the tone of the 2 other ... read more
[MINI-ALBUM REVIEW]
Although PIXY aren't much known, their debut caught my eye immediately and I followed them since I first listened to it. Behind this small company and small group, there's a nice concept, which is why I think PIXY is worth talking about. Now, of course, dark concepts aren't new anymore for girl groups, but when you have actual storytelling, I always tend to get into it more.
Let's get into the actual sound of the project. That's where it's weaker than "Wings", ... read more
The first thing we can say about "Next Level" is how it has the same color as their debut "Black Mamba", and whether you like it or not, it's nice to see they have their own thing and you just know it's aespa by listening to the first seconds and the production (even without vocals).
The first listen was quite unpleasant to be honest and thought Is that supposed to be the next level? But just like "Black Mamba" grew on me within a few days, "Next Level" ... read more
First of all, I was so excited about this release, Yuqi is probably my favorite voice in idle and she’s in my idle bias line as well, so yeah I was really looking forward to it and it came as totally unexpected!
Yuqi offers us 2 bold and empowering songs, both all in English (oh dear I wish she sang some parts in Chinese as well but eh…).
“Giant” is strong and has beautiful storytelling (which she participated in as she in the production and writing credits for this ... read more
‘Dear OHMYGIRL’ is a nice project, with its 2 major ups and some down that aren’t THAT bad.
The title track “Dun Dun Dance”, is a very nice summer song and is good on its own but after finishing the project, I’m like “is DDD really the title track of this?”, because it doesn’t fit the vibe of the rest of the EP. Anyway, the first part is really good to me and the first rap verse comes as a surprise and was something I liked, but after the ... read more
First of all, I’m very surprised to see these low ratings and don’t really understand the hate towards this project as if it was made by some old rock indie bands y'all fetish, you'd say it's a good album.
Anyway, I’ve been following Marie for YEARS, when “i wanna be your girlfriend” gained traction, and girl in red started to build the fanbase she has now. I met cool people thanks to her and saw her live twice (one time being with the people I met), and I can ... read more
Woah, ITZY's 4th mini-album is here, and as of now, I think it's a good one. The title track shows a change from your typical ITZY song and is way more rap-based which isn't so common within girl groups and I appreciate it tbh. With the b-sides, we get different sides of ITZY, closer to what we're used to but I do think it's still a nice change compared to their prior releases. But when it comes to my besties from ITZY I have to always be careful not to be too biased and not let my love for ... read more
i really want to review this trust me but im crying so i cant and i don't think I ever will
i just love this song so much, it's so beautiful, i just dont understand the sudden end but let's see in the context of the album ( for now I'll say that it's to put in music a sudden break up too)
To be honest, it's a nice change compared to your typical kpop song (but as Teddy said, what even is kpop it's just pop music from Korea), but it changes it terms of what you'd expect groups to do. I do not typically enjoy house-inspired songs but I like it here even if it's not the best thing ever either. BUT, it's still very good and I wish the 6 candles weren't the only ot6 thing but that's a long story and it is better than way (at least more lines for shuhua? lmao no u really ... read more
With her second EP, BIBI chooses a safe road in which she excels. It's a soft R&B project that I can play in a loop the whole day without getting bored of it, thanks to catchy lines and good productions with some cool elements. However, I know she has some goddam powerful vocals, and she showed that in her OSTs, but here where are they? I think what could have made this project stand out more, would be to have at least a track where she shows more of her vocal technique.
(PS. the CD and ... read more
The truth is: dreamcatcher keeps the same style but without going down in quality, and compared to the last project, this is better. Now my only hope is that they do something of that kind for their next Korean comeback and finally go up in quality with a full EP or LP (not just 3 tracks like here) and find a way to bring more originality in their music and push their sound even more.
In 2021, we got 2 new girl groups with Purple Kiss and Pixy, who are coming with their own rock sounds as ... read more
Marie is back with the follow-up to “Serotonin”, and it’s a song in the same vein but this time, she’s going in full rock mode and I can see that she’s having a lot of fun doing so.
It’s once again a very upfront song with that nice saturation, I personally like it and don’t think it’s too much or anything. Then in terms of lyrics, of course it’s not some super deep metaphorical stuff but who cares omg, isn’t it nice to scream ... read more
