BVNDIT - Carnival
50

What happened to the promising debut mini-album they gave us? This one is just bland and generic k-pop.

BVNDIT - BE!
70

BVNDIT's first mini-album is undeniably a very great project, it's fresh and well produced. It's often that k-pop groups try to mix different genres into k-pop and it doesn't often do well as we tend to get some of the most generic music. But with 'BE!', BVNDIT manages to mix EDM (mostly future bass) and R&B with k-pop, in one solid and cohesive project, we can even get some jazz tones from time to time in the slower tracks.

IZ*ONE - One-reeler / Act IV
75

I never really listened to anything by IZ*ONE but "Secret Story of the Swan", and decided to check some more songs a day before this EP drops.
So going into this, I didn't expect much from them because of what I already heard. But let me tell you something, never come to an album with pre-conceived thoughts about it (EVERGLOW proved with 'LADIDA' that even if you've been making average k-pop since debut, it's never too late to come up with one the best k-pop release of the year; not ... read more

ENHYPEN - BORDER : DAY ONE
75

What a great debut wow, probably the best of the year. It's very cohesive and doesn't sound like anything we're already too used to. It feels like they already got their own sound and know where they're heading at. I'm really excited to see what's next for them!

카이 [KAI] - KAI
75

With his debut, KAI (EXO) shows a promising project with many great songs and a pleasant aesthetic.

The title track "Mmmh" is very good, and it's nice to see a tt that isn't a song with another one of these huge bass drops (which is something we don't find anywhere on the album). It doesn't try to follow any of the huge trends words for word but mix what is popular with a more modern sound.

Overall, I liked the production on every song but on "Reason", where the heavy 808 ... read more

Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts
75

Miley is definitely back and delivers an album that mixes rock and 80s pop.
From super raw and upfront tracks like "WTF Do I Know" and "Gimme What I Want" to the catchy singles that are "Midnight Sky" and "Prisoner" and powerful ballads such as "Angels Like You" and "Hate Me"; we get to see it all. There is some miss like "Bad Karma" but I don't think it's that bad anyway.

The opening track "WTF Do I Know" is as I ... read more

Isaac Dunbar - love, or the lack thereof
65

Not his best for sure, but not horrible either. The rhythm is catchy but it's a bit too much always the same.

YUNGBLUD - mars
65

I don't know but I like it, I like his way of telling stories even if it can sound somewhat cringey at times.

60

This is an okay revisit of the classic "3e sexe", it's modernized and works just fine, I like how their voice sounds and Chris brings her soft yet powerful touch to it. But apart from that, there's nothing much to it, if it was a brand new song it would have been quite deceiving, to be honest, but it works because the melody of the original song is well known and catchy (and I personally like it). The production quality is missing which is surprising from Chris who released my fav EP ... read more

Yseult - BRUT
80

This is such a great EP, I think she sounds wonderfully well. The lyrics as very nice and the production is simple yet interesting.

King Princess - PAIN
78

It's effortlessly catchy and if the next singles of whatever drop next are of that kind, we might get a great and surprising project from her.

Miley Cyrus - Prisoner
80

it's so kool, now imagine them performing it live together with a rock band <33

BTS - BE
60

Honestly, this album has potential, it gots some nice vocals and a few great tunes. It's also so nice that each of them took part in the writing and production at some point in the EP.

The first 3 songs are, to me, the best tracks. It's different from what they've done before and I wasn't expecting this kind of stuff at all. It's way less for the mainstream market they tend to want to appeal to and it feels great to hear something different. Their vocals are great there and maybe the only ... read more

MARINA - Man's World

yes, me too i'm a strawberry soda

girl in red - two queens in a king sized bed
73

After the very promising songs girl in red released this year, we are given a sweet Christmas themed piano ballad where she manages to bring her own sound to the basics of a Christmas ballad.

The song is centered around a soft piano melody and Christmas like bells. For the chorus, we are in the middle of reverberate drums that surround us of low frequency which made me feel like the music was giving me a warm hug. When we get to the verse a violin comes and goes to highlight Marie's calming ... read more

Joanna - Démons (feat. Laylow)
75

The song is great, it's a typical quality Joanna song (which means it's good). Laylow's parts are really appreciable as well and their chemistry is perfect. However, I almost feel like it's too simple for them like maybe I was just too excited about this collab and was expecting a production even more researched. But it stays a good song and so are the lyrics (Joanna's writing is always really beautiful and Laylow can write some pretty good stuff as well). The MV is so pretty as well and has a ... read more

이수현 [Lee Suhyun] - Alien

마마무 [MAMAMOO] - WANNA BE MYSELF
70

i thought i already rated it before but apparently i didn't and i'm happy about it as it made me listen to this bop again!

aespa - Black Mamba
65

Their AI took differents elements from different groups that already make stuff based on already heard music and put it into some software and where like there we go, kpop!
(but do i still listen to these groups? yes! why? bc im a kpop stan and love the members more than i should! and will i keep on listening to this? yes! why? bc it’s catchy and im a clown!)

I'm just going to talk about the visuals as I was worried because some of the teasers seemed like they were taken out of ... read more

STAYC - Star To A Young Culture
73

If I remember well I first got in touch with them because 3 out of them did a live on 1thek youtube channel where they performed songs from a certain company in the style of another. I appreciated their voices so it only made sense that I would check out their debut.

More and more groups are going with that synth-pop sound at the moment, so it's totally normal and expected to have a new girl group debuting with that sound as well. The only thing is that you have to make it as great as you can ... read more

"@ShadeRD I have accepted the "no-return" of Soojin (her solo debut made it clear), but still I find that they were playing with the fans by hinting at her. I'm not annoyed at them releasing those songs, as it does make sense and every group ends up doing it. It's more about how it's done. But again, I have zero idea of the real situation, what they're allowed to do or not and the making process. Idk if what seems like Soojin's references are intentional or not. I repeat myself but I guess I needed to let that out last night and then thought about it again haha! In conclusion: I don't know anything about the situation and therefore shouldn't assume anything either, because then I'm just creating conspiracy theories, which I deeply hate! 2/2"

"@ShadeRD You're right it's probably just about publishing, performance's rights. While it's true many other groups did that, but they do it in the following months or so, and songs are often put at the end of another album, or without promo. To me it's a little weird that it's done now and not earlier, and I struggle with the way they used her name/image for marketing strategy (it looks like that did at least). But we have no idea of what happens behind the scenes and some stuff take times and are beyond our understanding. In the end we're here overanalyzing something far more complex than it seems. As listeners we only see the outcome and not everything that comes before which can make up come up with wrong interpretation. 1/2"
