It manages to blend so many artistic elements into something that makes sense without getting lost in the sauce, like mixing random shit into a pot and accidentally making the elixir of immortality. It’s so hard to wrap my head around categorizing this record into synth-pop, new-wave, dream pop, glitch pop, hyper pop, art pop, Bjork, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, or Grimes, because actually it’s in a league of its own. It makes no sense to me, maybe I shouldn’t think too hard of ... read more
I used to love this album a lot more with a score closer to like a 97, but I just got tired of it too fast. I wish I didn't ruin it for myself. Amazing song writing though, and easily digestible for just about anyone.
Drags on for quite a while. It could be perfected, just not up to the standards Vampire Weekend are capable of doing.
Out of all the Vampire Weekend albums, this one has my favorite production. Insanely memorable and vibrant.
It feels hopeless. There's nowhere to go. No one to talk to. Darkness around you. Got high as balls listening to this which filled me up with so much comfort I thought I was taking a nap listening to it, but I was awake the whole time. It was such a weird feeling simultaneously being wide awake and sleeping like a child. I wish I could experience that feeling again.
What really captivated me the most is how consistent the album sounded for that gothic rock sound to shine without sounding repetitive. It also incorporates that "Gothic Groove" sound from the 80s in a different league from its other contemporaries. Unequivocally well made.
The way this man paints picture so vividly using nothing but a pen, a guitar, occasionally a odd instrument, despite that god-awful singing voice is what captivates me and other people to understand music besides it sounding "catchy" or "goes hard." It is records like these that keep our minds conscious of the aesthetics.
It sounds exactly like the idea its trying to push of driving through the California desert with only you and a radio.
It's wonderful, vulnerable, cuts deep, pulls on my heartstrings. Phoebe Bridgers wears her heart on her sleeve. The next great songwriter.
