Not a very engaging listen, but Equip still brings a few solid dance tracks with his usual JRPG-influenced style. First two tracks were alot weaker than the rest.
Highlights: Druids, Legendary Equipment, Crystal Matrix
Simz is consistently great from start to finish. Some highs and lows instrumentally, and it doesn't hit the grand peaks SIMBI does, but I did enjoy the understated vibe.
Highlights: Angel, Gorilla, Heart On Fire, Who Even Cares, Control
Not as much in love with this album as I was when it came out, but still slaps.
Really can't say I enjoy much of Silversun Pickups post-Swoon, but this album still holds up for me quite a bit. Lots of loud, blissful, dreamy swaths of guitars, drums that punch your gut even during the quietest moments, vocals tinged with melancholy and angst.
I still consider Melatonin, Three Seed, and Common Reactor some of my favorite songs even after over a decade.
Neat album. Obviously great musicianship, and though I'm not a big jazz listener, it did start to feel a little same-y halfway through. Still enjoyable, still worth a listen.
Highlights: Days of Pleasure, Little Bad Miracle, Clues Not to Read
Very similar vibe to Boy Harsher (makes sense that theyre touring together), but the moody atmosphere is kind of lacking. Vocally and lyrically there are hits and misses, but overall the synth work was good enough to keep me listening.
Highlights: Last In The Club, Fascination
Why?!?
David Lynch Has a Painting Made of Flies Eyes features a flat, basic alt-rock guitar riff, spoken word vocals reminiscent of David's Flying Lotus feature, and a verse that is just, naming some David Lynch projects? I don't think the point of this was to capture the vibe of a David Lynch film or song, but besides a couple of backwards-talk moments, it doesn't even come close.
Suzanne Ciani is more power-poppy, but with a super awkward, cheerleader-chant style vocal hook. This one gets ... read more
For me, pretty underwhelming. I did love that vocal hook on Option 8 though.
I felt so many things listening to this; intrigue, amusement, frustration, boredom, anger, amusement again, and general confusion. I almost kind of love it, but it doesn't quite transcend its awfulness enough to become truly great.
Quadeca's vocals are generally my least favorite aspect of this, but it's hard to deny how wonderfully produced these songs are, overflowing with texture and detail.
Jan did not have to go as hard as she did on Hot Dog Baby, but here we are.
I love almost every song A.G. has done with other artists, but on his own, the results are literally all over the place
Steps In Time was the ONLY moment here that gave me even the tiniest feeling that I was listening to Smashing Pumpkins. Just a tiny bit.
Everything else was just felt like hollow attempts at dramatic symphonic rock, with sterile production.
Horray! was also a song,
In summation, Billy Corgan makes me soft
Quite a graab bag of influences
I was gonna say this reminds me alot of Spirit Of The Beehive, little did I know it was Mr. Beehive himself
