A very fitting 666 user ratings on this disturbing and haunted album. Now selfishly ruined by myself.
Wow. What a remarkably beautiful album. As soon as I finished the first listen through, I started the album again. One of my favourite releases for the year.
Woah - what a solid debut album. From the very first listen, "Collapsed In Sunbeams" was easy to digest and I instantly knew it was a top album - something I haven't experienced in a while. There's a distinctive Arlo Parks style across all the songs, however, each song is individual and distinct. I can't wait to hear what Arlo does next.
This is a phenomenal album - the only issue is that at 31 minutes it doesn't last long enough. Each song is unique, drawing on a range of musical styles, however, the album still manages to remain cohesive and complete. Most of the time, I find spoken word over music (like that found on "Hard Drive", the album's highlight) contrived, but Cassandra Jenkins manages to pull it off naturally and gracefully.
Definitely a highlight for 2021.
A truly beautiful album. Every track on "A Common Turn" is cleverly crafted, somehow striking the perfect balance of dense layers of instrumentation and gorgeous simplicity.
Release-wise, I've found the first month of 2021 a little underwhelming - however, this album has salvaged it.
