Experimental, atmospheric at times, questionable lyrics, everything you could want from an old Tyler, The Creator album. I will say he definently goes overboard at times with the production, but Cherry Bomb will randomly hit you with the most beautiful 30 seconds you've ever heard. This is helped by the Kali Uchis and Syd features throughout, but Tyler is the one masterminding this truly chaotic album. It can sound awful to you, or it can all come together and make something very special, ... read more
Planet Frog is a very fun album. I've seen Action Bronson around here and there but as a full length project I'm pleased for sure. The highlight for me has to be production, it just feel so alive. The instruments and beats on display are ear candy, it's great. Action Bronson also has a very unique way of rapping, it's almost like he's telling you a story where the strangest and most surreal stuff occur. The lyricism is silly but it reallyy works with the wild beats, and ... read more
By a mile the worst Drake album ever made, let alone in his trilogy he dropped for the Iceman rollout. Iceman is great and I do like Habibti a lot but this genuienly sucks. Some of these tracks are despicably bad, I mean who keeps inviting Sexxy Red to features man. The fun moments are scattered here and there, but you'll struggle to find any real good music on Maid of Honour.
You gotta love some R&B Drake man. I do wish he would've got the best songs from this album and just given them to Iceman to make one cohesive album, but the songs that are here are pretty great. Classic Drake singing, very nice production throughout, honestly no notes on most of these tracks. The fact that the intro sucks and Sexxy Red is on it are my only complaints, but Classic makes up for all that.
Oh boy here we go.
Drake is my favourite artist, but I'm not going to blindly glaze Drake like many of his other fans, this review is as objective as possible. But if you want my true opinion, I'm loving Iceman. Waking up on May 15th to find 3 new Drake albums is a feeling I'll never forget. While I'll save his other two releases for later, I think his main project Iceman is great. The rollout was fantastic, and now that it's here I'm putting my opinion down and ... read more
I'm shocked that Monster is considered a mixtape considering how good it is, easily up there as one of my favourite Future projects. Metro was in his bag with the production, it's dark and head bopping and suits Future perfectly, who does what he always does but if you're a fan you're a fan. I appreciate him being more vulnerable too on songs like Throw Away and Codeine Crazy, it gives the tracklist some more variety. Sadly I won't be listening to this too much ... read more
I really love the turn that Yeat took here, he's being more versatile with his style whike sticking true to what makes him so great and it really works. The production is surreal, dark, grimy and most of all HARD AS FUCK. Yeat is Yeat, he knows how to flow and he knows to flow well. Plus I love how he can use his slurred voice and vocals to add an extra layer to his beats, from background echoes to even rapping in his adlibs, it makes this album stand out in his discography. People have ... read more
I think something is seriously wrong with me. I want to love Swimming so bad. Mac Miller is easily one of my favourite artists ever, this album is his popular and many people would consider this his best work, and the sentimental value is there as he died almost a month after it dropped. As someone who's been listening to Mac forever this should be a recipe for one of the best albums ever. But it just doesn't click with me. The production is solid obviously, I mean every song sounds ... read more
What a debut by Earl Sweatshirt. I'm finally delving into his music and this album is beautiful. Dark, introspective, and super catchy. The beats are simple yet memorable and his rapping is just so impressive throughout the whole project. I'll say Doris relies a little too much on features but considering Earl had just left Odd Future and he had all those connections it makes sense. I have a feeling I'll be coming back here often.
Isaiah Rashad is an artist that I've always wanted to get into more so his new release was perfect for me, and overall I enjoyed it. I liked a lot of his ideas on the album, from moments in the production to his delivery of lyrics, it's all very neat. There's some really great stuff in here, I think it just has to grow on me a little more.
I was expecting so much more from this album. I mean Conway is quickly becoming one of my favourite rappers ever, The Alchemist is the greatest producer of all time in my opinion, and Westside Gunn is Westside Gunn. But damn this is kinda boring. Ray Mysterio and 94 Ghost Shit are obvious highlights, but most of these beats are okay but nothing special at all, and an album with 9 songs can't be having any duds. I'm disappointed by how much potential this project had.
I was expecting a lot more from this album honestly, but I don't think listening to Ultra 85 (the concept of this album but done a lot better) first helped. Besides The Incredible True Story is still pretty decent. A lot of the tracks are cool, Logic can clearly rap, I liked the lil story it told, and that's about it.
I had my fun with this album, but my latest Conway album isn't as great as everyone says it is. I like the cover, the beats are from several different great producers, and there are some several truly great tracks on here. I just don't think that as a full package it comes together incredibly. The skits, some dud songs and some weak chorus' ruin the overall album experience, but the peaks (Lemons, Dough & Damani, Forever Droppin Tears) are certainly peak.
Conway was in his bag with this one. People have told me that this is one of his best albums and I'm definently impressed. I will say that I was expecting more grimy, Griselda style production, but the beat selection here is still a great one. The beats are more polished, honestly this album feels like it has Nas production all over it, but it works with Conway as an artist extremely well. I love his voice, his flows and bars are great, and he did a greay job at keeping me entertained over ... read more
Wow. This is the first time I've taken my time with an abstract hip-hop album and it's so so good. Burning Desire and other albums like it aren't about adding songs to your playlist, but enjoying the experience from front to back. It's done because all the songs are super short, being a minute or two aside from a couple tracks, but that's to the benefit of the album as you're always listening to new sounds and nothing drags longer than it wants to. Speaking of ... read more
How can you not love frat rap Mac Miller? Before his shift in music and him dropping some of the greatest albums of all time, he was a teenager releasing mixtapes and trust me they're also great. The beats are jumpy and fun, and Mac spits his silly bars with catchy hooks in between. This album is just loads of fun, and the song I'll Be There about his mum is really sweet too. I'll say I prefer KIDS but Best Day Ever slaps.
