I actually enjoyed this a lot more than the first volume. I love Lil Yachty for exploring new genres, but it's always nice to see him return to rap with his new group The Concrete Boys. The first volumes album cover is great but nothing in there really impressed me, so I was pleased that I enjoyed this volume a lot more. I really appreciated the beat selection here, they have this super cool fast paced layered production and almost every beat here is super hard. Lil Yachty's auto tune ... read more
I don't care what anyone says The Romantic is so peak. Bruno Mars never misses, and I loved the more salsa romance vibe going on with most of these songs. I'll admit his song structure can get a little repetitive, but his vocals are unmatched, the instruments on this album are absolutely gorgeous and these hooks will stay in my head for days.
Circles is Mac Miller's first posthumous album, and it's a melancholic yet beautiful coincidence that you can almost hear it in the music. It's a very special project with a unique sound for Mac in which he drowns himself in acoustic melodies and gorgeous singing. There are glimpses of upbeat songs but the vast majority of the album is slow, methodical and personal. But I think the best part about Circles is that it isn't depressing, it's hopeful still. Mac Miller ... read more
I'm not gonna add a rating to some deluxe tracks but just writing this to let yall know JVB ARE BACK WITH MORE SONGS AND THEY'RE ALL FIREEEE. Push the pipe is hard af, bustamove and i like this go CRAZY, changes is up there with DISCO TOMORROW in it's retrospectiveness and even the interlude how does it feel to be young is beautiful. Bonus points for the really awesome alternate album cover, one of my favourites this year for suree.
Uff this is a big step down from Melodic Blues. After a 5 year wait and lots of anticipation it's hard to not be disappointed. It's still good, I like a lot of the lyrical content, it does seem a bit more refined in its production than his other albums, and Ca$ino and Circis Circus Freestyle are insanely good. But so much of the silly, whimsical, hype Baby Keem I love has gone in his long ass hiatus, and the features from Kendrick are mid at best too. Maybe I'll grow into it, but ... read more
The Alchemist is still my favourite producer of all time and us fans just keep on eating. Curren$y is cool and all, and although I find Larry June a really boring artist I don't really care, I see the rapping and any kind of lyricism as just a cherry on top to any Alchemist beat. Every beat is on loop in every situation, unbelievable smooth. I just wish Spiral Staircases was longer so I could listen to more of this production.
This is THE love-making album. Soulful, jazzy, R&B perfection. I think Voodoo is a slight downgrade from Brown Sugar as the songs tend to be a lot longer in length and can be repetitive at times, but if in the rare likelihood I end up having the sex every track here is the first song I'm playing in the background.
J. COLE DEEP DIVE #1
Now that The Fall-Off has dropped and J. Cole has retired I thought it would be fun to go rereview every Cole album and fully explore every project in the discography of the greatest rapper of all time, starting off with his first studio album The Sideline Story.
First off, this project is so much better on a relisten than I thought it would be. Your favourite rapper wasn't dropping an album this good 15 years ago (aside from Kanye). Considering that this album did ... read more
Short but really really sweet. Beautiful melodies, smooth vocals and a relaxing but wonderful ambience, Brent Faiyaz has unsurprisingly gone 10/10.
The Fall-Off was probably my most anticipated album of all time and it still lived up to the hype. An unbelievable piece of work. It's like when you get a really great song from an album but every song is that song. I'm saying it here and now J. Cole is the greatest rapper of all time and his last project is one of the greatest written albums of all time. Every song is a masterpiece of storytelling, being able to rap his life in reverse, facetiming a younger version of himself and ... read more
Octane is a solid album but way below what I expected from a Don Toliver album, especially considering how consistently he's been recently with releases like Life of a DON, Lovesick and Hardstone Psycho. Production is great on a lot of these songs but nothing out of this world, singing is good, you have your hard hitting tracks and some nice melodic ones. Definently good, but I'm still a little disappointed by how safe he played it this time round.
It's very rare that an album from a genre that isn't hip-hop grabs my attention, and Panchiko has done just that. The story about D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L being found as a CD randomly and a big Internet manhunt went underway to find out who created it before being discovered that it was just a bunch of teenagers is insane lore for an album. On top of this the music is really great, it's not like your average teenage band it's kinda psychedelic and ... read more
Strong strong album. Very lyrically heavy but I love that, and wow is Saba a real talent. His wordplay, flows, and storytelling are all incredible. Lots of super nice chorus' and singing to break up the album in a really cohesive way. The production is fairly minimal but the vibes and instrumentals are great and it works alongside Saba's skillset flawlessly. What a fucking banger.
This is so mid man I can't help it. Idk has always been so irrelevant to me, like every project is so forgettable and leaves me with nothing, and this new mixtape is no exception. He doesn't have good lyrical talent, the beats are okay and even the good ones by Conductor Williams and noID get wasted, and his voice lowkey irritates me. If anyone enjoyed this I'm happier, and it's not necessarily bad music, just boring to me.
Mac DeMarco is so good man. This album is a little more simple than my favourite projects of his, but it never loses it's magic.
Not really sure what to say here. An album with just 7 songs, and most of them are decent at most. Eh.
I love this album. I have a really nice memory of being on a 5 hour bus ride late at night back to my city after a full day at a theme park with my best friend. The sun is setting, my friend and everyone around me is fast asleep, it's totally quiet and I have the window seat, looking at the horizon and listening to this album. The smaller, quieter tracks combined with the darkness and peacefulness of the bus was so great man. My favourite thing about albums and music is being able to ... read more
Just because I respect it doesn't mean I like it. I've heard Atrocity Exhibition is super out there and very hard to get into and I get why. I appreciate the dark production and I like Danny Brown's creativity, he never boxes himself in and always finds some unique riff or synth or hook to make this a super trippy listen. But I just don't enjoy the songs very much and that's the core of a good album isn't it? He has a very unique voice which I thought worked for a ... read more
Fucking baffling that an album this good came out in 1993, 36 Chambers could've come out today and it would still be amazing. You've got iconic beats, great grimy production and so much chemistry between all the Wu Tang Clan members that results in bars and wordplays for days. I think everybody who considered themselves a hip hop fan has to check this project out just to see where it all started.
It took me a lil while to understand Let's Start Here, it was only on my 3rd or 4th revisit where it clicked for me and actually realise how incredible this is. It's super experimental and a very bold decision for Lil Yachty to go in this direction as an artist, but it pays off I mean this album is amazing. I also love the fact this is his most popular album, it deserves the attention and helps him keep making this kinda music. Yachty is truly upgrading his skills as an artist on this ... read more
