Lil Uzi Vert - Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World
72

I think I'm trying too hard to be an Uzi fan. I do fw his music, but everywhere online I've seen videos of his diehard fans screaming his lyrics, or concert footage, or videos from his 2016 days or when Eternal Atake released in 2020 or people freaking out over unreleased leaks. I see all these people really messing with his music and while I do enjoy them and can appreciate Uzi's unique flavour for sound, after my 5th album I've come to realise he just won't click with ... read more

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
80

A hip-hop classic that just didn't leave the impression I hoped it would. Don't get me wrong it's great music and layed the foundation for jazz rap as we know it, with the production being pretty layed back and minimalist while still being undeniably catchy. The beats all bring out the best in Phife and Q-Tip too who are both incredible MCs, they have loads of fun bars, effortless flows and they bounce off each other's energy super well. I have to say though I enjoyed ... read more

Thundercat - Distracted
77

I love AOTY for putting me onto this album, as I've heard nothing but praise for Thundercat online and so far I'd only listened to the amazing work he's done with other artists such as Kendrick and Mac Miller, so Distracted was my first look into his discography. I really enjoyed listening to this album all week, it's not an understatement to say that he's maybe the best bass player I've ever heard, it add so much to each song alongside the rest of the effortlessly ... read more

Yeat - Wake Up Call
35

This is genuienly nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. For Yeat's first ever project back in 2019 it's not horrible, you can hear him experimenting with the sound that he would refine with Alive and 4L in a few years time, and I found myself bopping my head from time to time too. Nevertheless this won't be near anyone's top 10 list.

Lil Uzi Vert - The Perfect LUV Tape ®
70

A Very Good LUV Tape. It's too short, but honestly Uzi is amazing on here. This hard hitting catchy style is exactly what I look for in his music, and for the most part he delivers that across 10 songs. I'll say the first half is better than the second, but if you're a fan of LUV you can't go wrong with this mixtape.

A$AP Rocky - TESTING
50

I cannot understand the glaze for this album. Easily Rocky's worst album, sure it's got some interesting ideas but none of them land, it's like he was throwing shit at a wall to see what stuck. So many songs with so little substance, there's only a handful of tracks that actually stuck out. I'm surprised there's so much praise for it on this site, but maybe I'll see how I feel in a few years.

Kanye West - BULLY
75

KANYE IS BACK AND IT'S SOUNDING PRETTY GOOD. Bully is the best Kanye album in 10 years there I said it. After both Vulture albums and Donda 2 I was scared we would never get good music from him again, considering he has the best discography in rap history. I'm really happy to see myself proven wrong. The sampling and production here is amazing, genuinely every single song has an interesting sample flip and beat. His bars are fun too, and while the songs are very short I'd rather ... read more

Yeat - ADL
55

What an interesting album to talk about. The ADL rollout has been insane and Yeat's journey has been very interesting to follow. The hype for this started off insane, especially after the DANGEROUS SUMMER mixtape was so good, but then he dropped some questionable singles with Kylie Jenner and EsDeeKid, and then came the interviews where he talked about how he was "done with the slop" and he was finally giving people "real music". This is an insane statement to make, ... read more

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
90

Holy gem. Truly some incredible hip-hop music, thanks in no part to the layered, funky, jazzy production and all the amazing bars and lyrical content from Phife and Q-Tip. I very much see the appeal for A Tribe Called Quest, and it sure as hell appeals to me.

Lil Uzi Vert - Luv Is Rage 2
77

After Luv Is Rage 2 I think I can finally say that I'm an Uzi fan. I liked Eternal Atake and the guy's flow is insane but prior to this the only songs I liked were the 'tough' songs, the bangers, the tracks I'd play on aux. I don't know why but whenever he tried anything slower or different I'd just tune out, but after sitting on this album for a while I can say I fw every aspect of it, especially after the drag that was Pluto x Baby Pluto. This album is fun, ... read more

Future & Lil Uzi Vert - Pluto x Baby Pluto
50

What a drag. Pluto x Baby Pluto is a very uninspired album by two great artists. Not sure what happened considering this is Uzi in his prime and Future but a full listen of this is draining. You have some decent songs here and there but overall the production is lame and sounds exactly the same, plus the two rappers don't sound like they're trying whatsoever. The deluxe tracks follow a similar path, what a disappointment.

Domo Genesis & The Alchemist - No Idols
79

The Alchemist is so peak. He has a knack for making incredible beats that match whichever artist he's working with perfectly, and I also really love songs that start with the beat being made which happens on songs like All Alone and Gamebreaker which adds an extra layer of cool. And unlike an album like Spiral Staircase that I enjoyed the production but the rappers involved were just kinda there, this time round Domo Genesis adds a lot to the flavour of the album, I really enjoyed his ... read more

Westside Gunn - HEELS HAVE EYES 2
68

Yeah this is fairly enjoyable. I'll admit I'm not huge on Westside Gunn but I'll also admit that he has a really good ear for beats and most of them here are the highlight of Heels Have Eyes 2, they're grimy yet soulful and the production overall is super cool. The rapping here is good too and I like Gunn's voice, but that's that. If you love Griselda you'll love this.

MF DOOM - Born Like This
77

Born Like This Is probably the least interesting MF DOOM album I've heard so far in his discography, but it's still a good listen. Everything you like about DOOM is here, the witty bars, the sick flows, and the cool production especially from the J Dilla beats that he uses. I like how raw this album feels, some songs like RAP AMBUSH and MORE RHYMIN are just simple 2 minute songs with insane amount of word play in them. But overall as a package this album doesn't have as much ... read more

Drake - So Far Gone
80

Love this man. The beats are super ambient and melodic which click with Drake's singing SOOO well. Even for his first album Drake's lyrics and flows are fire, this whole album is so smooth and easy to listen to. The tracks are also a great balance between bangers and introspective. Some of the songs can be a bit too long but the old Drake formula really really works, I can't believe I haven't listened to this sooner.

Brent Faiyaz - Larger Than Life
70

Larger Than Life is a nice little Brent album, but I was kind of hoping it'd be better, as the songs I had heard so far before the full listen, such as Forever Yours, Upset and Best Time ended up being my favourite songs on the album. I found a lot of other tracks that I did enjoy, but I'll admit that the Brent formula got a little repetitive by the end, and there's also some forgettable songs here and there. But it was still a fun listen, it's just a bit of a step down from ... read more

The Scythe - Strictly 4 The Scythe
65

It's not a bad album whatsoever but for the amount of hype during the roll-out and how good the singles were I was expecting a lot more, but to be fair it's only 8 songs and half of them were already out. I like the chemistry between the artists, and LIT EFFECT is legendary, but the second half really dropped the ball with not great hooks or verses. Denzel has a lot more music dropping soon though and you know I'll still be tapped in for sure.

The Weeknd - Echoes Of Silence
78

I'll admit it took me a few listens to get into Echoes of Silence but it's finally clicked and now I can officially say I'm a big Trilogy fan. The first few Weeknd mixtapes have a tendency for some songs to drag a bit too much, but overall it's a great listening experience. It's probably the darkest and most atmospheric Trilogy album, with truly incredible production and some great vocals. Songs like D.D, XO/The Host and Next are fantastic. You definently need to be in ... read more

Nas - King’s Disease II
70

A perfectly fine rap album. I'll admit that nothing Nas has made post Illimatic has really impressed me, but I still have lots of Nas albums to go through and you can't call it bad whatsoever. I enjoy a lot of the beats, his rapping is good and his flows great, and I loved the Don Toliver features on the first few tracks. But I'll never understand all the perfect ratings for this album and many of his similar ones, they're good rap songs but nothing special to me.
