Don't ask why I went through all of last year hating lesbians since I didn't listen to this until right now

Needless to say we found some common ground, all good

You know what? While this was really cheesy and poorly produced in a couple of notable places, I can at the very least say that I enjoyed "The Eternal Idol" better than "Never Say Die" overall, which is something I definitely didn't expect going into the post-glory days Sabbath I had heard horror stories about.

The worst I can say about this record is that it's really generic for the most part, but honestly I kinda like Tony Martin's vocals? At least some of ... read more

Better than "Born Again" i guess...

Black Sabbath - Born Again

Annoying on the ears, cheesy, bland. Ian GIllan can sing, I guess, but when the production fucks him over THAT much, both in terms of his own vocal quality and the cheap-sounding instruments that surround him, at what cost? Trite and uninspired lyrics, daft riffs, nothing here really acts as a saving grace that made Ozzy's last two sputtering outings tolerable in some respect. These songs sound less like metal and more like saturday morning cartoon openings that had their respective ... read more

Amazing first half, like, HOLY SHIT levels of good. "Mob Rules" may just be better than "Heaven and Hell" when weighing the respective HIGH points between both records, from the entertainingly forward riffs to RJD's vocals that lay atop them (I'm a cool kid that abbreviates his voice like this instead of just writing out "Dio", this is a cry for help), the three punctual album openers lay the perfect blood-stained red carpet that isn't content with ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper

That movie may have been the greatest audio/visual experience of my entire life. Everything felt like a further step into a momentous, fantastically produced and expressed journey through changing tides and vague ruminations I can see answering for themselves for listens and listens to come. An absolutely extravagant march through from beginning to end - if this doesn't signal some new renaissance in music, where artists like Quadeca are tirelessly working to outdo themselves, ... read more

Second relisten REALLY opened my mind, this is one of the best rock albums ever made.

Edit: actually it's my favorite album ever nvm nbd (review soon?)

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
97

Okay hear me out, this record kinda reminds me of Slint with the more subtle spoken word parts mixed with the heavier post-hardcore base sound, Dead Kennedys with the upfront punk aesthetics, attitude and lyrical content, and the lead singer of Death / some other equivalent band screaming over all of it? And like, randomly it turns into Aphex Twin at certain points, near the middle? And me like, listing what I can pick out, tritely trying to boil down what's here, I can't even begin ... read more

"Quick and to the Pointless" is my favorite song on here...

Pixies - Doolittle

This might just be a 'me' thing, but good god does this record weirdly nosedive after track 8. Like I was really with it at first, the immediate sound and frantic vocals, it was making me do the "headbang", as the youth call it. But looking back at most of the songs after that point, and most of it is an assorment of half-assed indie rock slurry that prides itself on unmemorable ideas. "Hey" is just alright, kinda gets on my nerves but it's a semblance of an ... read more

Fantastic. This is what Radiohead was meant to be. Might grow to be my favorite release of theirs.

JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs

Fuck it, this is my favorite Peggy album. I see the vision now. 'LP OFFLINE' is still excellent, but this is more so. Conceptually beautiful, challenging in the best way, featuring his greatest production efforts to date. From the interludes to the heavy hitters, no expense was spared during this whatsoever. "Rap Grow Old & Die x No Child Left Behind" is his best song imo

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!

⚠️--~WARNING: PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS AHEAD~--⚠️

I've been depressed for a bit and kinda ducked out of listening to music and reviewing stuff that seriously for quite some time now. I just graduated last Friday, and I haven't had the motivation to partake in any of my previous hobbies, including listening to new albums coming out consistently. Listening to new stuff takes energy, and I really didn't have any to expunge during my present funk, which may seem ... read more

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

Too many low points here to consider this better than Amnesiac, but with that said, the first three songs and the climactic finale "A Wolf at the Door" outshine the best on that previous record imo.

Aesop Rock - Black Hole Superette
76

While not lacking in creative moments and Aes' trademark flare, it's probably my least favorite of his recent releases. It's certainly less consistent than his previous record I loved so much, which truth be told, I kinda expected ever since I heard the singles for this thing. I just think conceptually, ITS appealed to me more. And the first like, 5 songs here really didn't impress me much - I think a lot of my issues involved his choruses, which usually act as reprieves ... read more
