An absolutely batshit insane electro-metalcore album that... how do I put this? There are few albums that I fucking *FEAR*, and this is one of them. Not the loudness of it, but the pure unpredictability of it. You will NOT guess what comes next. Scream vocals, Eurovision-type choruses (THEY SHOULDVE BEEN ESC 22), a random female vocal feature? It's so unique and memorable, and I think it's pretty damn good. I'm SCARED
Folk Rock really isn't all for me, but this is a very good Indie Folk record. The sound and energy is there. I don't think I've ever heard an album as lovingly hateful as this one, to where the singer both adores and despises his spouse. It certainly makes for an interesting listening experience to where it can sound angry or solemn. However, I will say the first half of the album specifically doesn't have a lot to set each track apart from the last, but for what it is, ... read more
YEAH BABY BEST JAMIROQUAI ALBUM TIME
Synkronized feels like the Jamiroquai sound has been absolutely perfected. For one, the backing tracks are all so detailed, with so many layers to them that they all can go on for long times with several switchups in the song's beat. Jay Kay's voice is also still an absolute gem, fitting over the tracks well. The lyricism is also the perfect mix of social consciousness from Emergency on Planet Earth, self-reflection from Space Cowboy, and pure fun ... read more
Pinkshift delivers absolute peak once again. After Love Me Forever, Pinkshift is seeming to stray away from the pop-punk sound and into a full emo-metal sound for this one, and I think their instrumentals fit this sound PERFECTLY. The vocals contain so much emotion, from love to grief to hope to despair, and the highs (such as the screams in lullaby) go along perfectly with the maximalist production of the EP. Seriously, in only three songs this band is able to accomplish what entire LPs fail ... read more
This debut project has some really good songs. Not all the remixes work for me, but it's all worth it for Don't Stay, Don't Go, I Promise, I'm Lying, and IDKY. Very solid, and this lays down the foundations for their next LP.
I'd feel morally wrong giving this album anything other than a 100, considering all that it's done for me. During freshman year I used this album as such a crutch second semester. But ignoring all that, this album is still just fucking phenomenal. On the surface, it's such a fun Halloween-pop album, but underneath, it's so much more. For one, the production is very detailed, with so many details I still continue to pick up on to this day. So, it's got the energy, and it ... read more
A very solid debut pop album! Olivia Rodrigo really has what it takes to become one of the most well-known artists from this decade. This album is overall a pretty fun time. Lots of sad tracks, but also there's some angry, some happy songs. It's a pretty decent variety, even in genres from acoustics to synths to whatever else there is. She has a really pretty and versatile voice, too, and I think it's very good for what it's trying to do. However, it does still sort of feel ... read more
Currently thinking about that one meme that said Zara Larsson made "Kmart music". I mean, this is the definition of perfectly average pop music. It's not bad, but it isn't good. It's just kind of average for 90% of the time, delivering standard 2017 pop music that all sounded like the same thing. It's okay, it does its job, and Lush Life and Symphony are admittedly standouts, but those 2 songs can't save something kind of just whatever.
Slime is really something else. Usually the loud power pop-punk genre gets trashed for being corny, but I'd say Pollyanna is anything but that. This debut album is just really good. It's loud and aggressive on songs like Pixie, Mars, and Okay., but it can also be slow and deep on songs like Pathetic, Pasadena and who do you want me to be?. The entire time, it's driven by this deep emotion, and whether that's anger, sadness, pride, or whatever else, it makes for a really ... read more
Something is just missing from Rob Zombie. He has gorgeous, great nu-metal instrumentals, but his writing and his voice are both just kind of lackluster. These components work well on their own, but together they don't mesh well at all. What's left is a kind of whatever album that's trying to be great, but is just kind of whatever.
Saccharine is a lot of fun for Pinkshift. it's a really good debut EP, showing their range from the very beginning. It can be fun and pop-punky like Mars, aggressive and conscious like i'm gonna tell my therapist on you, more traditional rock-like like On Thin Ice, or grand like Rainwalk. This is just a fun time, and I know I'm biased but I really hope they do end up getting big.
Fucking CHRIIIIIIIST what is this. I love Jamiroquai to death but I just can't defend this one. It's just like, so confusing. Take the identity crisis of Dynamite, multiply it by like 5, and you have Rock Dust Light Star. The thing is, sometimes It's really good. Lifeline, White Knuckle Ride, Two Completely Different Things... they're all really fun listens, and great times. But then there are your lows too. Hurtin', Goodbye To My Dancer, etc. And the rest just kind of ... read more
Overall, Rio is better than the other album of theirs I heard (their debut), but I dunno, it was just kind of average. Decent, fine, but not really memorable, and kind of repetitive. I'm a generally positive person, though, and even for unmemorable ones, I can highlight the good in this, mainly that everything is well produced and put together. It's just not all for me.
Yeah I mean there's nothing necessarily wrong with this. It's generic but alright sounding indie rock. Let's Go is obviously the highlight here, though the title track and a couple others managed to stand out too. It's normal, consistently pretty good, and just a decent time. Not much else to say.
This is the Ghost album that I think is both the most consistent the whole way through, and the easiest to sit down and listen to. This is the start of the post-Meliora glow up where they start to make pretty good music. I mean, I love their hard rock sound, and the corniness of the past lyrics has kind of been lost here; there are still moments, but the tracks talk about more of plague and dark topics in general instead of the past one-note things. Honestly, this would be the best Ghost album ... read more
Yeah Depeche Mode is pretty decent, I mean. This is a perfectly on-par synthpop album for the mid-2000's. Nothing here is perfect, but nothing here is ever really bad. Decent production/mixing, fun melodies and vocals, generic-but-serviceable lyrics, etc. Not a ton of standouts, but it's an alright listen.
I'm so happy this band is finally getting the praise it deserves. plastic death is really a great album, and such a unique shift in tone from the first album. Honestly, I'd argue the vocalist handles this genre great too. This more indie yet traditional rock/emo sound is handled in just as serious of a way as the first album, but they don't just abandon the loud sounds like last time. in songs like slip under the door, motions, and rare animal, those influences are apparent. ... read more
Yeah, this album deserves all of the praise that it gets. The best word to describe this album is *weird*, but in a good way. The way the features, genres, and production styles all mesh together, it almost creates a unique environment that this album takes place in. Every song sounds so different from the last, but they all sound like they belong with one another. From synth-y epics like Empire Ants, Rhinestone Eyes and Plastic Beach to slow orchestral songs like the Intro and Cloud of ... read more
I absolutely LOVE when albums try and go for a blend of multiple genres, especially when they're unique like this. Symphonic orchestral metal swing jazz sounds absolutely fucking insane on paper, like it should be a complete and utter failure, but Diablo Swing Orchestra proves everyone wrong. Every track is so sonically interesting, like nothing sounds generic. Everything is experimental, and different from the last track, but still unified under one total sound. It's so intriguing, ... read more
