So, Swans' "To Be Kind"... it kind of changed my life, honestly.
My story with this album is a long one, and my first listen of this album was one that was pivotal to my evolution as a music listener. See, I was 12 years old when I first heard "To Be Kind". Having only gotten into music within the past few months, my taste in music at the time was, understandably, rather limited. Most of this time was spent exploring underground punk and emo bands, which as far as I was ... read more
One of Bowie's most experimental and fascinating, a truly singular record in his diverse catalogue of albums. "Lodger" shows Bowie pushing himself artistically, taking on different vocal styles, and veering further into the experimental than any of his prior efforts, and coming out with an album that is undeniably odd, but in the best of ways. Great album, deserves wayyy more love.
A truly depressing and subdued record, however it's a bit of a double-edged sword. While I did love the lyrics and instrumentation and found the vocal performances compelling in the first half, by the second half the same vocal style and general misery surrounding this record got to be a bit tiresome for me personally. Nonetheless, a very poignant and emotional release.
This album reminds me a lot of "Ys" in how it crafts these immersive and enveloping musical environments that transport me centuries back. Just, instead of being sad and poetic, this one is more optimistic and comforting, for the most part anyways. The vocals are really beautiful, and the instrumentation is incredibly vast, with the excellent production really bringing each track here to new heights. It's about as well rounded as a chamber folk album can get in my view, excelling ... read more
Without a doubt, my least favorite Parannoul project so far. Interesting considering this seems to be the one that everyone else adores. This just... doesn't work for me. Sitting through this album was an at times torturous experience for me, and a few of the tracks here are physically painful to sit through. The reason for my feeling this way, for however a generic and boring answer it may be, is the mixing. The production on this album is genuinely horrendous in my opinion and ruins any ... read more

looking forward to listening to this every new years eve for the rest of my life
Xiu Xiu provide their interpretation of a truly classic soundtrack. Now, I'm not going to beat around the bush nor am I going to restrain myself from gushing in this review, Twin Peaks is one of my favorite television series of all time and, with its soundtrack being (almost inarguably) one of its most important parts, I was both incredibly excited and incredibly nervous to hear Xiu Xiu's renditions of these classic tracks. The result is a bit of a mixed bag at times, but a record ... read more
Porter Robinson's back with his third album, "SMILE! :D", and has delivered what is possibly his most unexpected and interesting record, both musically and conceptually, to date. Bursting out with the colorful and celebratory sounding singles, "Cheerleader" and "Knock Yourself Out XD", these tracks' relatively upbeat sound was used as a mask to cover up some pretty honest lyricism about parasocialism and the highs and lows that come with success. That is, ... read more

"Disintegration" is The Cure's masterpiece, simply put. Anybody that says this isn't The Cure's best work is lying to themselves. This is just everything they've ever been good at amplified to previously unseen levels of quality, the perfect meeting of the light and darkness that made up the two contrasting halves of their discography. Any moment of dreaminess, or of light, that's present throughout this album, is always surrounded by a deep and impenetrable ... read more
What's this? The Cure's best album?
Yeah, I'd say so. At least so far. I'm genuinely baffled by this album's online reception to a point where I'm convinced that we didn't listen to the same album because this is awesome. This is easily the biggest departure in sound for The Cure up to this point, and that's a good thing. What results from the turn away from the gloomy and depressive post-punk of their early work is their most adventurous and joyous album ... read more
Micah's debut album is a solid, but relatively underwhelming collection of songs. There is genuine potential for Micah to develop his own distinct voice in this sound, but in its current state this album is primarily bogged down by a derivative sound and weak mixes that only serve to detract from the atmosphere and vibe that Micah is clearly trying to craft with this album.
This album is a complete mess of poorly executed ideas, and is the textbook definition of doing too much. So many tracks here are ruined because in their attempts to be "hardcore", they instead end up falling incredibly flat mostly due to how muddy the drums are and how weak the instrumentals here are. People are comparing this to Death Grips, where are you hearing it? Since when did Death Grips rush out shitty demo recordings and pass it off as a finished product? Since when did ... read more
One of my most anticipated albums of the year, "Girls Who Are Wizards" finally released!
... while I was on vacation, that is. For obvious reasons, I couldn't listen to this album upon immediate release, but I now have the time to check out. What I got was not exactly what I expected, and I mean that in the best way possible. This was... so much better than it had any right to be, honestly. I knew that this was Vylet's EDM album, and that worried me, to say the least. While ... read more
