Sometimes in music, it can feel like nothing's ever changing. Specifically in niche corners of the music world, like the ambient and vaporwave scenes, it can feel like everything that is being released is merely a recycled version of something that came before it. For this reason, it can be difficult, or otherwise impossible, to derive any new or interesting experiences from it. I don't mean to sound like I'm lying or overexaggerating when I say this just because I know Chris personally, but I ... read more
Severely underrated in my opinion, "leaving meaning." is one of Swans' many masterpieces, at least to me. While I understand the rather lukewarm reception this album got upon release, I really do believe that this is one of Swans' most fascinating and cryptic records. With the exception of possibly only "The Glowing Man", I view "leaving meaning." as being arguably Swans' most spiritual album to date, frequently bringing up themes of religion, spiritual worship, ... read more
There's a genuinely good record in here somewhere, but unfortunately I can't hear it because of the mixing! I'm not exaggerating when I say that the mixing on this album is genuinely horrendous. Every song here (aside from the closer), the vocals and the instrumental tracks are very awkwardly separated, and for whatever reason, while Mouse's vocals are mixed reasonably OK, the instrumentals are incredibly faint and difficult to hear at points, even with headphones on. I seriously don't know how ... read more
A surprisingly great release. I usually don't check out most metalcore stuff that comes out, simply because they usually make for pretty exhausting listens for me personally and tend to be rather hit or miss, but I was genuinely surprised by how engaging, fun, and actually really well produced this all was. For a record that falls under this genre, I genuinely didn't expect the attention that was paid to the mixing here, but everything sounds fantastic and every instrument feels pretty clearly ... read more

A very different project than what came before it, so if you were kinda ehh on the last one, you might connect more with this. As for me, I'm kind of the opposite. While the ideas here are interesting and cool experiments, to me, they never amounted to much or connected with me in any significant personal ways. I never felt as drawn in by the sound of this, even if it was still intriguing and kind of mysterious in its ... read more
This is a project that honestly means a lot to me. Sewerslvt, regardless of how polarizing they may be, has always been a very special artist to me and over the time I've spent listening to their music I've always hoped for something better for them. This anonymous person on the other side of the screen. What always impressed me with their work is how much emotion seems to seep out of every facet of their creations, from the covers, to the titles, to the track lists, to the music itself. For as ... read more
Way better than it has any right to be. A genuinely inspired and fun project that is consistently engaging. There's a lot of influence from albums like Madvillainy in the production, but there's also dashes of JPEGMAFIA and Wu-Tang that show up here and there too, as well as many other hip-hop greats, but instead of just copying off of these artists they take these influences and make something new out of it. The production is off the wall, the flows are great, the deliveries are great, the ... read more
I don't hate "Cop", I just find it boring, plain and simple. The atmosphere of this album that people speak so highly of gets boring quickly for me with so little variation or progressions to speak of, and while Gira has never had one of the best voices in music or anything, his vocals are a particularly hard pill to swallow with many of these early records for me. It's just a really plodding album experience for me, one that neither improves upon nor worsens the sound that was ... read more
I'm not even sure what I can say about this. Not because there's a lack of things to say, but because this is just such a serene and blissful experience that I genuinely can't imagine my words ever doing justice to just how wonderful this EP truly is. As "BGM" quite literally stands for background music, there is obviously not a lot of musical progression here, and this sounds to my ears like another improvised piece, a style that Aoba-san has dabbled in in the past. While this music ... read more
I didn't click with this album immediately, but it grew on me a lot over the course of its runtime. I initially didn't understand why everything sounded so hollow and uneventful, but there's actually a lot of beauty to that sound that's slowly revealed over the course of the project. A gem, will definitely be revisiting this one, possibly multiple times.
kendrick literally buried drake and now he's just pissing on the grave. fucking legendary
An interesting, and at times quite beautiful album, but also one that can get pretty tedious past the halfway point of the record. There are great highlights here, and tracks that really left me feeling quite stunned by the end, with how engrossing they become as they build more and more in instrumentation, but as a whole, there's just not enough variety in the sound or lyrical topics here to keep me invested for almost an hour. Plus, it's just a little too much style and not enough substance ... read more
Taylor Swift has returned once again with yet another batch of uninspired, formulaic pop tracks.
And look, that's not to say I completely hated this or anything, as a matter of fact I thought there were some pretty good songs that turned up here, but it's nothing that I haven't heard from her a million times before. At the end of the day, I love Taylor Swift, and I think she makes great music when she's willing to put the effort in, but this is just so underwhelming to me. Unlike a lot of ... read more
This is a truly amazing record. Powerful and emotional songwriting, amazing instrumentation from front-to-back, fantastic production, beautiful vocal performances, what's not to love here? This isn't the sort of album I see myself returning to often, due to how patient, subtle, and generally depressing its contents are, but even with that in mind I have no problem calling this my favorite album of the year so far. I loved everything here and I think this is easily my favorite Adrianne Lenker ... read more

"EVANGELION FINALLY" is a clear labor of love from everybody involved in its making. I saw this album on vinyl at a store earlier today, and picked it up, carrying with me the slight worry that this would be little more than just a thrown together collection of tracks made in order to make a profit, but no, that's not the case at all. Not only is this a fantastic collection of tracks in its own right, highlighting some of Evangelion's best and most iconic music while also sticking to ... read more
