While it's very much a track that draws pretty heavily from its influences, that's not to say that the finished product isn't incredibly well made. I really like what's happening instrumentally, the black midi and BC,NR influence is pretty blatant, but I'd be really curious to hear where this group goes once they're able to develop a more distinct sound because this shows a lot of promise. The mixing needs some work but there are points where it really shines through with excellent results, ... read more
I can't remember the last time an album clicked for me as hard as this one. This is one of those rare cases of an album that feels like it came at the perfect time in my life. A time where I've been stuck in a pretty negative mindset and my dissatisfaction with the world around me only grows stronger by the day, an album like "Crest" comes along and reminds me that it doesn't have to always be like this. That *I* don't always have to be like this. Listening to this album is the ... read more
Of all the instruments that exist in the world, I'm not sure if there's a single one that I find more fascinating than the human voice. Arguably the most boundless and free instrument there is, and also the one with the most universal accessibility I'd argue. Regardless of where you come from in the world, what language you speak, or what type of music you're into, you're almost bound to find a singer that you love someday, whether it be due to their personality, their voice, their appearance, ... read more

Is there such a thing as a "comfort band"? I don't know if there is, really, but if there is, Weezer is definitely mine. Look, I've been having a pretty awful terrible no good very bad last few months, and this album was EXACTLY what I needed to lift my spirits a bit. Rivers' songwriting on this project is so carefree and spontaneous, like he didn't even care about the band getting successful at all, he just wanted to write some fun songs and say whatever was on his mind ... read more
Incredibly empty and unfulfilling. The instrumentals themselves are good, but without anything else to elevate the music I felt pretty unsatisfied by the end, like being presented with a delicious looking meal but not being able to have a bite of said meal.
Some beautifully crafted emo. The instrumentals on display here are varied and engaging, making not a second of this record feel boring, the lyrics are surprisingly honest and vulnerable and convey the complicated mess of feelings that can come along with moving away from home, and the vocals, while they're bound to be the most divisive aspect of the record, feel incredibly sincere to me. It fits this style of music incredibly naturally and well in my opinion. There's just so much to appreciate ... read more
Pretty decent follow up to their debut in my opinion but still lacking in a lot of ways. I just feel like these tracks don't progress to anything, like it's all atmosphere but there's no substance beneath all of that. It just makes these tracks feel boring and uninspired.
Violent, misanthropic, and all around hateful, "God Hates Us All" is arguably Slayer's angriest and heaviest album to date. While it's not generally looked upon as being one of their best, it's in the heaviness of this record that much of the appeal lies for me. In the past, Slayer's releases have had a tendency to feel a little safe or like they don't reach their full potential in terms of the power or impact of the music itself, which is a notion that was quickly squashed for me ... read more
"Diabolus in Musica" is a solid but ultimately underwhelming record that shows Slayer experimenting and trying out different ideas, to varying degrees of success. At the end of the day, my biggest issues with this album generally just come down to some kind of confusing artistic decisions and a general lack of direction or cohesion to the whole project. They just kind of jump from idea to idea with each song and it makes this record feel more like a first effort from a band still ... read more
I don't know how well this musical concept has really aged over the years, but this is one of Bowie's most unique and fascinating records in my opinion, and possibly my favorite as well. By this point, Bowie was really beginning to dip his toes into the more experimental and unconventional sides of rock music, a concept that he perhaps explores most thoroughly and fascinatingly on "Low", but simultaneously I still can't bring myself to love it due largely to that crazy second half. ... read more
I have no idea how I never rated this, but oh well. Anyways, it's one of Heccra's best. It combines the straight forward easycore shit that Heccra is known for with some genuinely beautiful and reflective tracks, as well. The whole thing is wonderfully nostalgic as all of Heccra's music is, and appeals to me in ways that I can't describe but just feel inside. Love it.
Went in totally expecting (and kind of wanting) to hate this, but I gotta keep it so real with this one, it's honestly a lot of fun. Are some of its instrumentals dated? Yeah, kind of, are the lyrics repetitive and not particularly creative? Sure, but I don't know guys it's just dumb fun. It's not very deep or lyrical or anything but I don't expect that sort of thing from a project like this. She just came in (get it?), did her thing for 23 minutes (GET IT??!?!?), and left, leaving little to no ... read more
Easily Dylan's best work in my opinion. The lyrics, vocal performances, and track list are all amongst the best in Dylan's entire discography, the sound is very warm and nostalgic yet the lyrics are profoundly melancholic, which fits in with the album's themes very well, and I just think that in every aspect this is his most mature, honest, and reflective work to date. It's nothing short of amazing, I get why people flock to records like "Highway 61", "BIABH", and even ... read more
This specific brand of emo music is very nostalgic to me, and Modern Baseball were a band that I used to really be into when I was younger, but I just don't find this debut to be all that impressive or compelling when compared to their later material. The vocal performances are pretty underwhelming and kind of amateurish, as are the instrumentals, with many of the tracks here feeling kind of empty instrumentally. Whether that's due to the production, or the actual performances themselves, I'm ... read more
