Uhhh I actually liked this one quite a bit. Like, obviously it's not the best thing in the world and is still just OK by regular album standards, but considering how low my expectations for this project were, the fact that I came out enjoying it is kind of a shock to me. Not only did I find myself enjoying every track here, and found the atmosphere to be just intriguing enough to stay invested, but there were several tracks here that I genuinely thought were really good, solid tracks that stand ... read more
Wonderful record. The vocals are eccentric, the instrumentals quirky and odd in the best of ways and perfectly complimenting the vocals, and each song here feels distinct and memorable. I love how delightfully odd this album is, especially since there's a clear level of talent on display. Everything here is so wild and creative, it feels so spontaneous yet planned at the exact same time. It's a mesmerizing experience, and I think everyone should experience it once, even though not everyone will ... read more
Sewerslvt's debut is a fine, but admittedly unimpressive first release. This album just kind of lacks in a lot of the style and aesthetics that would come to define a lot of Sewerslvt's later releases, plus the fact that this was a style that was never really expanded upon in their music just kind of makes this project feel unnecessary and particularly unessential in their discography. Its biggest issue really comes down to its lack of a distinct voice or personality, in my opinion.
Beautiful. So warm yet bittersweet, it says so much without saying anything at all. A must listen for fans of American Primitivism.
There's so much potential here, what a shame they never followed it up
I really loved "Ugly Brunette", and wanted to check out the rest of the record in the hopes that it would be just as good, and it's just not really. There's some fine moments, some decent instrumentals, but nothing worth wasting your time on really. Check out the opener if you want, but outside of that, just skip it. I can guarantee you you're not missing anything.
The tracks here sound waaaayyy too similar to justify that runtime, but still, it's a nice record. Very serene and peaceful, I enjoyed it.
Probably her best project. The instrumentation adds a lot to the mix, and the vocal performances feel like a genuine improvement, but the rapping is still genuinely embarrassing at points, and the production is so overblown at points that I struggle to latch onto any of it. It's like why k-pop production doesn't appeal to me but blown up to such a more massive, obnoxious degree, and to a point where it completely cancels out so many of the good or otherwise improved qualities of this project.
The mixing is incredibly sloppy, and there's some pretty corny lines here and there, but damn this one is also just so charming and fun. I really can't bring myself to dislike it, it has a lot of flaws but it also has far more passion poured into it than these latest Halloween releases of his.
