For whatever humorous bars cupcakKe may occasionally deliver on this project, it's simply not enough to suffice for how repetitive these same lyrical topics get. It's amazing to me that cupcakKe has made an entire career off of material like this, considering it got tiresome for me within about 10 minutes of this one album. I'm glad that she's remained successful, but to me, she just feels like a one trick pony.
"Shelter" is, by all means, a perfectly serviceable and good record from Alcest that is sure to please diehard fans of the band's work, but for me personally, it just doesn't hit the same as their past releases have. Boris offer up what is possibly one of the most beautiful and powerful live performances I've ever heard in this performance of "Flood". Now, the studio version of "Flood" is one of my favorite albums ever created. A really engaging, fun project. Emo has always been a very nostalgic genre for me, and here it feels like the nostalgic qualities of the music are emphasized as much as possible through the lyrics.
