Isabel Kia Kia - I Know Places
89

So this song made me tear up and kind of cut me deeply in a way that I didn't expect so i guess i should review it. I'm not really sure what to say, it's just musically beautiful in a really simple and subtle way. The instrumental is simple but sweet, and the vocals are fucking stunning. The whole thing just sounds wonderful, and the lyrics are pretty amazing (and yes I'm aware this is a cover). it's just really good and i feel like in so many ways i kinda heard this ... read more

Skin Theory - June
NR

Skin Theory takes the first step towards developing their own sound and separating themselves from their contemporaries on this new single, “June”. While I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve heard from this band so far, my biggest gripe with their music has always come down to the very obvious influences that the band pulls from, but doesn’t really do much with. Here, it feels like they’ve finally begun to take these influences and use them towards creating something ... read more

AOTY JUST DROPPED??? OH AOTY???

edit: jvne dropped more peak, what else is new?

Hiatus Kaiyote - Love Heart Cheat Code
88

The only album this year with a feature from BMO and that's why it's the best one

Ok but seriously though, I was just gonna make this a shitpost review but I'm genuinely shocked that this album hasn't received more love. This is one of the best produced projects of the year, and that's not even to mention how heavenly the vocal performances are throughout this entire project. The instrumentals are also incredibly well done, everything sounds smooth as butter and this ... read more

headbanged so hard to lyr 3 im shocked i didn't break my fucking neck

CALUP - I am impatient so here's a sample of songs from the album while the album is being completed
23

So I am at a bit of a loss as for things to say about this project, to be completely honest. I like listening to AOTY user projects, and providing feedback when I can on what I think worked well and what didn't, but for any of these songs to be even halfway decent would require pretty much everything to either be completely improved from the horrendous state that it's currently in, or to just be changed entirely. The sound of this project is just horrible, the mixing is genuinely ... read more

cupcakKe - Dauntless Manifesto
64

For whatever humorous bars cupcakKe may occasionally deliver on this project, it's simply not enough to suffice for how repetitive these same lyrical topics get. It's amazing to me that cupcakKe has made an entire career off of material like this, considering it got tiresome for me within about 10 minutes of this one album. I'm glad that she's remained successful, but to me, she just feels like a one trick pony.

Can - Rite Time
22

I was gonna write some shit like "I would rather be forced to listen to my dad play the guitar for ten hours straight than have to listen to this again" but honestly this is so much more entertaining

Alcest - Shelter
74

"Shelter" is, by all means, a perfectly serviceable and good record from Alcest that is sure to please diehard fans of the band's work, but for me personally, it just doesn't hit the same as their past releases have. Maybe it's the turn away from the black metal aspects of their work, and the near full embrace of the sounds of shoegaze and dream pop, that gives these tracks less of a punch, or perhaps it's just the generally heavenly and overly pretty soundscape of ... read more

FKA twigs - MAGDALENE
93

Quite possibly the most forward thinking pop release of its decade, "MAGDALENE" is simply on another level in terms of creativity and experimentation. Because while yes, FKA twigs does most certainly lift from artists like Björk and Kate Bush in her influences, there's still no denying that the finished product is something entirely unique to her. An odd, challenging, and artistic collection of tracks, the front-to-back experience of this record is something that left quite ... read more

Acidgvrl - JAAKU-CHAN: RATED R
10

Once in a blue moon, I will find a record that is truly exceptional. An album that goes beyond what I would typically expect to find in a record of its genre, providing me an experience that was truly unique, truly extraordinary, and truly rare. This was one of those times. AOTY, AOTD, AOTC.

Boris - Boris performing "flood"
89

Boris offer up what is possibly one of the most beautiful and powerful live performances I've ever heard in this performance of "Flood". Now, the studio version of "Flood" is one of my favorite albums ever created. It's an incredibly patience testing work, but one that really rewards those who are willing to sit with it through to the end. This record being nearly half of the original's length, I obviously can't help but feel that some of what made that experience so special ... read more

Interesting demos but where's the album

Porter Robinson - Russian Roulette
NR

musically speaking, it’s a strange one. lots to admire, lots to hate. outro felt unnecessary and weird. super out of place. lyrics were surprisingly depressing at times, but the vocal performance was mixed to say the least. gonna need to sit with this one a while longer

ID-X - Set The Record Straight
NR

Lint is the common name for visible accumulations of textile fibers, hair and other materials, usually found on and around clothing. Certain materials used in the manufacture of clothing, such as cotton, linen, and wool, contain numerous, very short fibers bundled together.[1] During the course of normal wear, these fibers may either detach or be jostled out of the weave of which they are part. This is the reason why heavily used articles such as shirts and towels become thin over time and why ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "Luciferian Towers"
87

Perhaps one of Godspeed's most beautiful and evocative records to date. While some have criticized this record for being bland or just generally paling in comparison to the band's best work, I'd be willing to argue that this is just as interesting, layered, and devastating as any of their best efforts. While no, I wouldn't call this their best album either, it's still pretty amazing in its own right, building these massive soundscapes and complex walls of sound that make this album feel much ... read more

The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good
79

A really engaging, fun project. Emo has always been a very nostalgic genre for me, and here it feels like the nostalgic qualities of the music are emphasized as much as possible through the lyrics. It's got a wonderful sound, and is pretty well paced, never feeling like it overstays its welcome at all. I did have some issues with some lyrics feeling especially repetitive, and as usual for midwest emo the vocals here aren't amazing, but that's about it, and these things hardly detract from the ... read more

Whitney Houston - Whitney
89

Whitney Houston's second record is one of the best pop albums of the 80s, and possibly of all time. Lyrically speaking, this album is nothing new, with the main concept of the record being love, but it's the way that she writes about this love that makes it feel so intense and relatable. The instrumentals are dreamy and simply beautiful, the production is incredible, and her voice... I mean, what can even be said? She was one of the greatest singers to ever live, without question. There's not a ... read more

"@ItsSarahhhh LMAO ur good queen i gotchu. my headphones have been acting up recently so i haven't been listening to much but once i get that sorted i'll probably at least check out iceman, i've heard some snippets of songs that i enjoyed enough to at least be somewhat curious. i also realize that this review makes it seem like i was really angry but im just more confused why theres even still drake hype in 2026"
On Drake - MAID OF HONOUR
"@ItsSarahhhh thats a valid perspective, and im curious to at least check out iceman for that same reason. i've just never fully understood why drake has such a dedicated and loyal audience of listeners when, from what i've gathered, he hasn't made music that's been overall well received in about a decade atp. makes me sad that this same level of attention and hype isn't often given to smaller projects by artists that are working a thousand times harder to deliver a worthwhile product"
