To get my first and only major criticism out of the way first, personally, the mix here still sounds a bit too rough to my ears. Maybe this is just a me thing but I just came off of two Deafheaven records in a row and those felt comparatively less abrasive than some of the loudest moments here do, which is strange to say the least. With that being said, I do really love what's going on here instrumentally speaking. There's a lot of moving pieces to this track that all kind of work ... read more
Why do we, as people, listen to music? I think that for the people that have heard enough albums as I have, if not more, every answer will be different. For me, I can say that I listen to it because of how it affects me, how the best music can influence or even change my life in ways unexpected, how powerful it as a medium is, the power that the best musicians have to bewitch and immerse me in whatever sounds they choose to make, in whatever stories they choose to tell. But above all else, ... read more
Pretty easily my favorite Clark album so far. There's so much to love about this record if you have an appreciation for the abstract - Clark builds some absolutely insane and occasionally intense atmospheres on here (take "Mercy Sines" as an example), all presented by way of some of the most intricately detailed and impressively layered IDM instrumentals I've heard in a long time. This is such a daring and unique record, a truly difficult album to understand but an easy one ... read more
Nearly fell asleep while listening. Iron Maiden are just, not my thing. I've tried, several times now, to get more into their sound, and have waited for one of their records to "click" for me, and it's yet to happen. I get their appeal as like, a beginner metal band. If you've never heard a metal record before and are interested in dipping your toes into the genre, maybe you start off with some Iron Maiden. But as someone with more experience in the genre, what am I to ... read more
I don't care if people aren't willing to recognize it as a genre yet, what we're witnessing here is the birth of post rap, and that's a pretty incredible thing.
I can't get enough of this one, truly. Every time I think I'm over it, I just keep coming back for more. I think I may be officially obsessed? Either way, this is the shit, I don't care what y'all say. This is just, so catchy. And warm. And weirdly nostalgic? Reminds me of movies that I grew up on, like "Matilda" or something, I don't know. LOOK, it's late, I'm sleep deprived, and I NEED to go to bed, but I CANNOT stop playing these two tracks over ... read more
So yeah, this is easily my favorite Metallica album. Might even be my favorite metal album, too.
Oh, "Lulu", an album doomed to fail from its mere concept alone. A collaboration between Metallica & Lou Reed? Who needs it?
Upon release, this album was a commercial flop, a critical failure, and was despised by both Lou Reed and Metallica fans alike. Over a decade after its release, people still haven't warmed up to this one too much. Despite this, Bowie called it Reed's ... read more
I feel bad for the many people that are not getting this new era, because for me anyways, I am LOVING this new direction so far. I absolutely loved “Besties” when it dropped, and this latest single has me thinking that they’re onto truly great things. Not only adapting their sound following Isaac’s departure, but pushing forward into bright and exciting new territory, waving away any worries of artistic stagnation and making some absolutely mesmerizing tracks in the ... read more
Without a doubt, my favorite Weeknd album so far. "Kiss Land" just embodies so much of what made Abel's earlier music so interesting. A darkness in the soundscapes and a rawness in the production style that is contrasted by the beauty and impeccable qualities of Abel's voice. This really captures a dark, late night sort of feeling, and it was hard for me not to picture the lights and streets of Los Angeles when listening to this record. From my understanding, this would be ... read more
this song perfectly describes how i've been feeling recently. beautiful work as always
Cynthoni's music reminds me why I stay alive in spite of everything that makes my life painful. It is only through the emotionally devastating lows of Sewerslvt's material that the true euphoria of Cynthoni's can be fully appreciated, and this album is the perfect embodiment of that notion, in my opinion. Thank you, Jvne.
only rating the extra tracks. "Spring breakers" is great but other than that i can see why these didn't make the cut
"Wet" lowkey made me kinda dysphoric, and "Sweet Cis Teen" picked me right back up and reminded me how great it is to be trans sometimes. There's a lot of pain and heartache that I've had to endure as a result of it, but it all makes it worth it when I can bang my fucking head around to shit like that song and feel the catharsis of it wash over me. Incredible energy, such an amazing sense of humor, so much emotion poured into every track. Absolutely loved it.
Probably one of the most important records in the history of rock music, and obviously a groundbreaking moment for punk rock. Not to mention, the music here still sounds pretty great, nearly 50 years later! The guitarwork on some of these songs for a '70s album is just insane to me, and the lyrics were at times pretty revolutionary. Its influence simply cannot be overstated, and I can't imagine a world where this album didn't exist. For that reason, and many more, I loved it.
