The Observer
The eclectic British producer returns with a more dance-focused album laden with giddy modular synths.

A set of bangers rich in colour and content, full to bursting with incident and energy, Sam Shepherd has made something rather special.

Under the Radar

It’s Shepherd’s harnessing of electronic music’s power to tease your imagination to different places that makes Cascade such a wonderful club record.

Northern Transmissions

In Cascade, Floating Points reclaims the dancefloor while elevating the genre beyond its traditional boundaries. It’s an album that celebrates the euphoria of dance music while also offering moments of introspection, all the while showcasing Shepherd’s unrivaled talent as both a producer and a composer.

Pitchfork
Three years after exploring new dimensions in ambient jazz alongside Pharoah Sanders, Sam Shepherd refocuses his efforts on the dancefloor, with dazzling results.

AllMusic

Cascade is yet another marvelous Floating Points album, and easily the most successful work he's made as a dance producer.

The Line of Best Fit

There is also significant amounts of captivating detail and subtle shifts in mood and tone underneath the pure physicality of the beats that hog the spotlight on Cascade.

Clash
A resetting of the dials, it transplants the producer from symphony hall to sweaty club, and that alone makes it truly vital.

Uncut
Pure pleasure with an experimental edge.

Mojo
The delicious, Moroder breakbeat thump of Birth4000 and squealing garagey rave of Vocoder (Club Mix) have the swagger and heft to leave club soundsystems wobbling, but also need good headphones for home enjoyment.

The Needle Drop
Tech house thrills galore.

Record Collector
Superior selection of thoughtful floor-fillers.

Far Out Magazine

Cascade may seem like a homecoming for Shepherd, but it’s unlikely that he’ll commit to the world of electronica for too long. Cherish it while you can, before he sets off on a completely different tangent once more.

Spectrum Culture

With its meticulous beats and gorgeous synths, Cascade is undoubtedly one of the most satisfying electronic releases of the year.

PopMatters

Floating Points’ Cascade is a bassy, minimalistic swirl of house, techno, and ambiance to be enjoyed on the dancefloor or as the backdrop to solo introspection.

The Arts Desk
The grand breakdowns and rushes are so finely balanced in their frequencies that they’re elegant as well as providing a physical thrill.

the textures of the synths and layering of the drums on this album are just supreme in every conceivable aspect. it does end up trailing off ever so slightly towards the end as it leans further and further into IDM rhythms. not that i dislike IDM even a little bit, i just prefer my dance music to be more house-inspired; driving beats that are more easy to find the groove in. either way, extremely pleased with this release.

I'm not all that well versed in house music or electronic music as a whole, so my only familiarity with Floating Points was with Promises from 2021. So, picture my surprise when I turned this on and experienced a song as energetic as "Vocoder." This album has so much energy and bounce to it, while managing to remain varied enough to be engaging the whole time. Even when songs last up to 7 minutes, I never feel a lull. It's hard for me to really describe the sounds beyond the ... read more
