It’s going to be hard for Albini, Weston and Trainer to ever top what we find on Dude Incredible. Worthy of filing alongside and above At Action Park and 1000 Hurts, it’s the sound of one of the great bands at the height of their powers. Cawww, cawww.
Shellac have shaved off a few layers of fat for their first album in seven years, and the change suits them, although it’s less a change and more a re-discovery of something they once did so well. On Dude Incredible, Shellac go straight for your throat and don't loosen their grip until the bitter end.
Dude Incredible isn’t the band’s best record, and even punk, noise-rock, and math-rock purists may find its barrenness a little inaccessible, but it’s the product of a well-defined minimalist ideology; in 2014’s overbearing musical climate, that counts for a lot.
The last time Shellac took a seven year hiatus, they returned and maintained their energy and sound but didn’t quite diversify enough to feel like the return was fully justified outside of adding another notch in the post-hardcore belt in a time in which the demand for the sound was much lesser-than compared to the early to mid 90s and even into the early 2000s. With that in mind, Shellac can be commended for sticking to their nuclear sound and staying true to their form, even if the ... read more
Shellac's legacy is maintained nice and tightly, ever golden, with Dude Incredible. This is Shellac's masterpiece. All of the best aspects of Shellac's previous work culminate in a fully realized fashion on this wonderful album.
Our usual Shellac tone is present here, but these songs are the most complete Shellac songs have ever felt, save for obvious examples like Prayer to God. Dude Incredible is just a fantastic posty math rock track. I've definitely heard this one before, on shuffle or ... read more
Shellac is back. The kings of minimalist noise rock provide us with groovy songs, great riffs, and creative lyrics. Technical and unorthodox, the songs on Dude Incredible demand the listener's full attention. Be advised: if you like chugging guitars and catchy vocals, you won't be able to stop listening to the eponymous track, Dude Incredible.

A lot of this sounds like you took an already made album and removed the vocals; there is a lot of empty space that feels unnatural. What I do love about this album is how hypnotic the melodies and drum patterns are. I felt teased hearing the introduction to 'The People's Microphone', which stood out and was really fresh up until the 40 second mark, where the tempo slows down and it falls right back into the same type of rhythm you can find on nearly every other song on the ... read more
they take more of a math rock sound up on this with the Albini tone being suppressed in its power, and for the atmosphere they go for on this i would say it does them good. you won’t find any masterpieces on this apart from the title track however, and this is ultimately a step down in quality; nonetheless very solid
