PLUS seems to meander as much as its predecessor, but its greater focus on rhythm helps it appear to hold together more strongly, and rapt concentration reveals that these pieces are as intricate and thoughtfully crafted as the duo's best work.

Only two weeks after the much anticipated release of SIGN, and Autechre has surprise dropped a sister album to one of their most concise and well-executed projects in nearly a decade. Surprise, it's better than SIGN!

Like how I'm assuming many people felt when they saw Autechre dropped a surprise album two weeks after SIGN's release, I was worried PLUS was going to amount to nothing more than a collection B-side experimentations that didn't quite make the cut for SIGN, but were still decent enough to release for the hardcore fans. I appreciate what these guys do but it's all very disingenuous to me.
Not the return to album format I had been wanting, SIGN did not really feel like an autechre record and this album is pretty bland, was looking forward to autechre releases which stepped away from the generated sound they've been exploring recently. With SIGN was a different direction with a more ambient feel although was executed averagly, people claimed it was the most emotional autechre release, honestly don't think it was close compared to LP5, PLUS feels like a collection of tracks they ... read more
It’s a bit more abstract and dissonant compared to that of “Sign”, and while I suppose some people may see this as a positive, I personally find my attention being lost more in this album compared to its twin. It’s still got some great moments, though not as frequent.
