how the fuck was he doing this from 14-16???
feels like pure self-hatred and depression made into an album and i can only imagine what state you'd have to be in to make this kind of stuff. pretty much everything here is at the very least "great" even with the more eclectic bits of the album (rip sendai miller, they never found my body). despite that, the subject matter and atmosphere is extremely consistent and definitely creates an experience that can only be associated with ... read more
ayyy 400 follower special. haven't posted in months but ay, lets roll.... ok so this is goblin by tyler the creator. his debut album, although he will say it's his 2nd, including his debut (and only) mixtape bastard. this is a pretty... aiight album. on it we see a 19/20 year old tyler talk about his fame and stuff like that. but the main thing is how much he hates being famous. wahhhh i can't even skate with my homies wahhh and such. it gets pretty grating, even on the title track (although i ... read more
So. The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake. One of the most hyped up projects up of 2013, but was it worth the hype? Well, yes, but let me give you a background. 7 years. No music since FS/LS, and he's just acting now. People are begging for new music. So JT gets with Timbaland and makes an album in 20 days. A bit later, 2013 just began, and JT announces this album. People freak out. He drops a single. "Suit & Tie". Everyone likes it. Then he does "Mirrors". Even ... read more
Kendrick on range brother sounds like those shitty robot voices you hear in a leaked track.
You see, I like Kanye. He's a good artist. The hype leading up to this was... high, to say the least. There was the Dunkey stuff, he went on fire, he flew and remarried Kim. This was an amazing rollout. The album? Great. Now I WILL say, this is a tad bit too long. But Ye spends that time making a REALLY solid album that I genuinely enjoyed. I love the production on this album, and it has that Kanye ring that's so iconic and easy to hear. Now, it's not all good. Why tf are the last 4 tracks all ... read more
If you don't have a huge smile on your face while listening to "D.A.N.C.E.", you probably hate children.
I think † is quite a good album. It's not gonna blow your mind, but it's well worth your time! The rock influences here are quite decent, and I love me a good dose of industrial on some of these track. "TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY" is one of my favorites here, it doesn't really need much meaning to it because it's silly. It's quite fun. The opener here, "Genesis" ... read more
yeah. uh, this is rodeo? travis scott? the album that critics hate, and general audiences love? yeah. i'm doing a review on it. sorry for being so inactive with reviews lately. not feeling it lately lol. this one is gonna be pretty short.
travis scott - rodeo - 9/10 (A) - a standout in trap
in an age in which much of trap music is mostly just repeating choruses over minimalistic beats that barely hit a mark of passability, it's good to know there are still some decent artists in trap who can ... read more
AJR. I have a really big soft spot for these guys. Even when everyone calls them horrible, I'm still out there, trying to defend these guys. But... these guys really don't know how to make a good album. They can make a good song, and they obviously are GOOD at music, considering they produce and write all their stuff. But this group has no idea how to translate their ideas into actually good songs. And, I need to say this; if you like AJR, go ahead! I don't hate you for it! I can see the appeal ... read more
DOOM really out here dropping fire from the grave, huh?
This slapped. There were a few things that had me worried for this record, like the fact that last time we got a CZAR + DOOM album, it wasn't that good. And the fact this was presumably made in just a few weeks, with the recording date for this being "April of 2020". But, we've gotten amazing albums that were created in that time-frame before. I can name a few, like, uh..... man, I was really worried about the quality of this ... read more
This is one of the most polarizing albums of all time. Particularly on Andre's end. You either have people saying this is a masterpiece, or people saying this sucks, mainly because of Andre's part, "The Love Below". I am on the side of those who think this is amazing. On both albums. It slaps. I'm gonna split this into two different reviews, because it's so, so different, yet so amazing on both sides. There's a reason this is the best-selling hip-hop album of all-time. It's not just ... read more
You know what? Forget the nurture review. I'm reviewing this instead.
Stankonia is awesome. It's unforgettable. It's a landmark in hip-hop history. It is... a classic. These are some of the most basic instrumentals I've ever heard. Was there even any effort put into the beat for "Snappin' & Trappin'"? I don't know. But they make it work. The rapping.... man these features are aren't even THAT amazing. In fact, the only features here that are worth mentioning as standouts are the ... read more
When this record first came out, no one liked it. It was a laughing stock. But, looking back on it.... it was a great record. Sure, the mixing isn't that good, and it doesn't aim high, but the end result was very desirable. It's a very odd mix of rock, hip-hop, and jazz, that is just all over the place. This record fails to fit comfortably in Tyler's discography. "Goblin" and "B*****d" had a horrorcore feel to it with the lyrical shock value, while "Wolf" had a ... read more
I love this record. Like, I REALLY like this. Carti has made one of the best trap records of the decade, with little effort. He didn't even produce this record. He just mumbled his way through the record. And he made it 10 times better. This is intoxicating in it's simplicity. It's just so memorable and catchy you can't ignore it. I shouldn't like this so much. The bar for this record was insanely low. But they nailed it. Hard. The production is just so amazing, and I love it. And Skepta WENT ... read more
Yeah.... this slaps
Billie Eilish is one of the biggest artists in the entire music industry. And she deserves it. She's an amazing vocalist. Her and her brother make one of the best duos in pop history, period. Sure, it's a bit cliched, with the whole "dont smile at me" and "not like the other girls" feel to it, but man, she has made one hell of an album. The production here is awesome. Is it overproduced at times? Yes. But it's original. And it's fun production. It's not ... read more
This is pretty good!
After the mess that was "GINGER", we have a new album. "ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE". And it's awesome. Now on original listen... I thought this was pretty mediocre. But man... the production here is some top-tier stuff. "COUNT ON ME" sounds so, so, so much better now and it's easily one of the best songs here. Sure, this album doesn't stack up to the SATURATION trilogy in quality, but it still slaps hard. The vocals here are something ... read more
