CATCHING UP FOR WORST ALBUM LIST #4
I’ve liked some of PATD’s music before, but wow this is really bad. It has potential at times, but the vocals just smash it all with a sledgehammer.
CATCHING UP FOR WORST ALBUM LIST #3
This actually isn’t as terrible as I expected it to be, but it’s still bad lmao.
CATCHING UP FOR WORST ALBUM LIST #1
Kodak Black is probably one of my least favorite rappers. And even while this is not his worst project by any means, it’s still soooooo uninteresting. I heard most of this album when it came out, but I just never got around to fully reviewing it because I was so bored by it. It’s so long, and there’s absolutely no reason for it to be almost an hour except to maximize streams. The production is more consistently solid than his other albums, ... read more
2022 CATCH UP #3
I decided to check this out because I thought his single “Mathematics” from this album was great. I also saw him play a few songs from this on the Turning the Tables YouTube channel and I thought they were pretty solid. And this was exactly what I expected it to be, which is a very fun project with a lot of humor and solid production value. It’s not anything amazing, but it’s just a good time all around. I think the writing could be sharper at times, ... read more
2022 CATCH UP #2
This album from Xênia França was a really good listen. I decided to check it out because I saw it on the AOTY Best Album chart and thought the album cover was fantastic. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this and I had never heard of it before, but the album definitely didn’t disappoint. It’s consistently well produced and performed, and I have found myself returning to it quite a bit. There aren’t many specific single tracks that I adore, ... read more
So the time has come for my 1000th review, and I thought what better album to be my 1000th review than Jake Paul’s 2017 classic “Litmas”.
I could no longer find this album on streaming services, so maybe Jake Paul realized how bad this is and took it down? Either way, I found the album uploaded on YouTube and took a listen. And WOW, this whole project is terrible. I know, what a shock coming from Jake Paul, but this is a new level. I get that it’s trying to be this ... read more
LITTLE SIMZ DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!
Somehow, Little Simz was able to follow up her fantastic 2021 album with “NO THANK YOU”, which sees her going in an interesting direction and is yet another great entry in her discography. Still need time with it to figure out how I fully feel about it, but I’m once again left so impressed by Little Simz and by her talent and artistry.
Edit: okay, I’ve sat with it for a bit, here’s more thoughts:
So while this is probably my least ... read more
2022 CATCH UP #1
“learn 2 swim” is definitely an improvement over his last record and shows a lot of potential and promise for redveil. Solid album overall.
Edit: this has already grown on me even more. 80 to 85
Edit 2: a few months later and I’m obsessed. 85 to a 90
Original review:
While “SOS” is way too long and is definitely more mainstream overall than I would have preferred, I just love this style and her music so much that it goes over well for me regardless. There are also some great moments of risk taking and experimentation present here (especially the great Phoebe Bridgers song and SZA entering her rock era on ... read more
“hypochondriac” is a really solid project from Brakence that has some really interesting and great glitchy production, even if it does still have its flaws.
I listened to some of Brakence’s last project and I unfortunately wasn’t too impressed with it. I thought his vocals were too over the top, the songwriting and lyrics weren’t all that good, and the mixing was not very good either. However, I heard a few singles for this album and thought they were improvements ... read more
While it may not have lived up to my expectations and while I may prefer “NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES”, this is still a solid project with some absolutely fantastic production from Metro Boomin and some interesting features.
I’ll write about this in full someday, but for now I’ll just say I love it a lot and leave it at that.
While I may not love it as much as I do “Blonde”, it’s still a great album from Frank Ocean with some stellar highlights and production.
Finally got around to listening to this in full, and it’s pretty good. I don’t absolutely love it, as there are some tracks I’m not crazy about, but I do really like it overall.
Edit: grew on me a little bit, 75 to an 80
This was my introduction to Weyes Blood's music, and this is great. A very beautiful album that I've found myself playing over and over the last few days.
While this still isn’t anywhere near the level of “Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial” and is pretty basic and standard for this sound, it is still an enjoyable melodic trap project nonetheless. It’s just a little disappointing though, especially coming from Roddy Ricch who I think can be such an interesting artist in this lane and has so much potential.
While it’s probably one of their weaker efforts, that speaks to how much I love their discography because this is pretty great and a nice send off to their discography.
In anticipation for tonight, I finally listened to this for the first time in full, and while it’s definitely underwhelming and their worst project, it’s still pretty enjoyable. It’s also very cool to see them still figuring out their sound.
