It’s an enjoyable and energetic ride, but the sweetly twangy guitars do wear somewhat thin as you listen more and more.
Best Tracks: NASTY; O.D.; DEATH NOTE; SAUCY; YAS; G.O.A.T.
Worst Track: SO STRANGE
A very memorably eccentric odyssey by Danny Brown about his addictions and the way it affects everyone around him, including himself. It’s very engaging and understandable in how provocative it is, and it’s one of the most odd and personal hip hop albums of the 21st century.
Best Tracks: TELL ME WHAT I DON’T KNOW; REALLY DOE; LOST; AIN’T IT FUNNY; PNEUMONIA; DANCE IN THE WATER; FROM THE GROUND; WHEN IT RAIN; TODAY; GET HI
“Skins” isn’t a X album: It’s really just an assortment of demos concocted by Empire. They’re not good, either. The tracks feel unfinished and amateurish thanks to the length, production, and performances. Unfortunately, I can’t give any constructive criticism because of Jahseh’s death, but I hope Empire (or whoever’s behind this album’s release) releases his demos in compilation instead of treating his last works like they’re ... read more

“Some Rap Songs” is an interesting and emotional anthology album that feels like one large entity than ‘some rap songs.’ Earl’s strong and lyrics luckily overshadow the project’s repetitive feel (which is expected considering its length) and the lofi production adds to the rawness of the subject matter overall. It’s a well-done album that should definitely be experienced as a whole rather than in increments.
Best Tracks: SHATTERED DREAMS; COLD SUMMERS; ... read more
“The Ugly Art” is somewhat addicting and fun when it isn’t occasionally tedious. I definitely see myself coming back to this album for certain tracks rather than the album as a whole, but Machine Girl definitely succeeded with this album’s execution.
Best Tracks: THIS IS YOUR FACE ON DOGS; NECRO CULTURE VULTURE; CONGRATULATIONS; PSYCHO SIGNAL JAMMER; FUCK PUPPET; NWOFKA SKULLBOY; A DECENT MAN
Worst Track: FIRST FIVE YEARS OF LIFE
Wii Music: LOOP VERSION
“Oxnard” is a very good album, no question; my criticisms for it are mostly personal preference, I suppose. Paak’s vocal cadence pretty much stays the same throughout the entire album, and the production seems to bounce between beautiful (SAVIERS ROAD) and cheap-sounding (MANSA MUSA). But, the album does stay tasteful and catchy throughout, and it’s a pretty satisfying listen overall.

On “OX,” Matt only seems to be elevated by his tracks’ production rather than his own vocal talents. That isn’t to say he doesn’t have charm and ability, but each track feels like a slog, with awkward lyrics and whiny vocals that make the album feel a lot longer than 25 minutes.
Best Tracks: JETLAG; RIDE AROUND; WALK OUT; ZERO DEGREES
Worst Tracks: DRIP; CAN’T
I appreciate that Tyler is taking his music in unpredictable directions, but this album just feels like leftover Flower Boy demos that are poorly decorated with glitter. There’s nothing very enjoyable or likable about cheap-sounding production/instrumentals and awkward vocals spattered across a 10-minute EP, and Tyler should improve his projects before he releases them 39 days before they’re ready.
Best Tracks: parts of LIGHTS ON; BIG BAG
Worst Track: HOT CHOCOLATE
“The Mollusk” is a triumph in rock: Its constant variety in instrumentation and vocals help give each track its own personality. Every track works very well with each other, and the psychedelic style gives the album charm and appeal.
Best Tracks: THE MOLLUSK; POLKA DOT TAIL; I’LL BE YOUR JONNY ON THE SPOT; MUTILATED LIPS; IT’S GONNA BE (ALRIGHT); THE GOLDEN EEL; COLD BLOWS THE WIND; BUCKINGHAM GREEN; OCEAN MAN
I never thought that an album could be entertaining and boring at the same time, but here we are.
“White Bronco” shows that Bronson has great charisma and personality, but its execution falters in regards to repetition and uninteresting style.
I believe Action Bronson has a lot of great rapping chops, but here it isn’t very interesting.
The main fault of “Origins” is that it’s basically a full-length LP consisting of the same type of song repeated fifteen times: A pop rock ballad that crescendos to an overblown chorus that’s meant to “empower” its listeners.
I do believe that Imagine Dragons has potential, but their efforts are wasted to deliver gross singles meant for endless radio time. These songs shouldn’t belong together on an album, for they’re basically all the ... read more
“Am I a Girl?” is a repetitive, yet admittedly fun and creative art pop album that stays catchy and eccentric all the way through.
Best Tracks: IN A MINUTE; ICONIC; TIME IS UP; ARISTOCRAT; HARD FEELINGS; AM I A GIRL?; PLAY DESTROY
Worst Tracks: FASHION AFTER ALL; GIRLS IN BIKINIS
“Die Lit” is less of an album and more of a fun library of addictive trap bangers. Even though this album is complemented more by streaming individual tracks over a full listening experience, you can’t deny that it does its job well by being entertaining and happily simplistic.
“Eden” is an enjoyable, solid, and well-produced album, but it isn’t as versatile as it should be. It feels like cupcakKe isn’t adventuring into new styles, which in turn would make her albums more interesting.
Even though her raunchy style is executed well, and songs like DANGLED and A.U.T.I.S.M prove that she has promise in other subjects of her musical style, I believe that a full-length album needs to be more creatively diverse to deliver a really satisfying ... read more
The new IDLES album is a great exercise of simultaneous anger and appreciation. “Joy as an Act of Resistance.” uses its punk style to deliver smart and harsh social commentary without pulling any punches, and the only thing holding it back is a somewhat repetitive sound. Overall, though, it’s a no-miss album, and probably one of the most important punk albums in the last twenty years.
“Iridescence” is an odd album for BROCKHAMPTON. Made very shortly after it’s announcement, and created after an awkward hiatus, its purpose feels very raw compared to the group’s other albums for obvious reasons.
On this album, the band ventures into very experimental territory with stripped-back beats and more odd vocals, but everything works for the most part, as the band seems to be more versatile than usual: Every member seems to go out of their comfort zones to be ... read more
“TOTAL XANARCHY” is hard to get through. Xan’s moody moans and annoying flows plague a track list that barely has any solid production.
Best Tracks: SAVED BY THE BELL, 1/2 of BETRAYED
Worst Track: DIAMONDS (so bad it inspired me to create a Spotify playlist called “Torture”)
Just... no.
“Joytime II” is repetitive, boring, and never really interesting, to the point where you have to dissect each song if you want to find anything positive about it.
Proof that the album is repetitive: Literally 2/3 of this album has tracks with the exact tempo of 142bpm. That’s insanity.
This album is talentless and dull, and I don’t really have anything good to say about it.
