I really enjoyed the change of pace this album brought compared to other Death albums. While I love all their music, this album diverges the most from the general structure and writing they typically use.

We lost the sea is one of my favorite bands, and while this is a pretty big change of pace for them, I love this album regardless. Specifically really love how heavy the songs get, and I think this is probably the best inclusion of electronic into post rock I've ever heard. Really love everything going on here, for me it's on the same level as Departure Songs
Vocals sound like various sound effects of the monsters from the original doom games
10 year anniversary to the best album cover and a great album!
Anyone that doesn't like the ballad of Mr. Steak is just beyond help...
In all honesty though it's a great album that takes a lot of risks, both in sound and in lyrics but to me it pays off incredibly. The lyrics border on being too dramatic or too weird, but instead comes across as genuine. The mix of electronic and strings fits the lyrics very well, making the weird and bizarre analogies feel very fleshed out and complete, instead of just trying to be clever.
Overall the album, ... read more
Very boring pop music, the most interesting part of this album is how it got such insanely high critic scores when it is so obviously not a good album
This album carried me through the worst time of my life in some regards, and while I'm happy to say I no longer rely on it like I once did, I'll always love it.
This album near instantly paints a horrid, dystopian landscape. Through all of its beauty there is a completely deprived of any dynamics- right from the start it promises a bleak, crushing atmosphere and sees that promise true until the (official) end. I mention it in my review of the Seer as I think the 2 albums compliment ... read more
I have no idea what he's talking about but it's incredible
edit: looked up the translations. this sounds too calm to be music to overthrow a government to but the rabbit hole goes deep.
all along the watchtower is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Everything else is amazing.
Always returning is one of the best ambient songs I've ever heard. Album is great, maybe it's corny to go into this keeping the album title in mind, but this really does capture what I'd imagine the loneliness and beauty of space to be like. There's a warmth to the sadness the album works so hard to build, and I just want to stay there.
I enjoyed it, but I'm a bit disappointed with it. I really enjoy ambient music for its ability to just take you somewhere else, and while this album was interesting, it did not have that feeling of being transported to somewhere else entirely I really look for. Looking forward to visiting again though.
My friend told me Jeff Buckley sounds like the sweatiest, most tryhard singer she's ever heard so I think bjork might just kill them. Great album though!
This album is so rich in emotion it's unbelievable. It's completely overwhelming, but an incredible experience. I seriously can't think of another album or artist that just communicates their emotions as transparently as this. Not to mention, the instrumental and production are mind blowing. Everything sounds so ... read more
One of the first albums I listened to what feels like forever ago, and haven't found anything like it since. There's a constant tension and intensity throughout the album, but instead of indulging that or letting it grow into something more frantic and uncaged as most albums or songs would, it just persists and constantly contributes to its own atmosphere. I credit Teardrop as maybe the single most influential song in getting me to listen to more music and break away from whatever was ... read more
Great listen, but album is unfortunately very front heavy. That being said, entire album is still a good listen. I feel like I died and went to sample heaven
I love it when music feels like spirits and monsters from the void are pulling me under the earth, begging me to join them!
This album is so frantic and chaotic, it's scary. It's like trying to listen to music with a gun to your head the entire time. There's just something so ominous creeping out of the album that evolves into a madness that I've never heard another album pull off so well.
