The best part about this album is hearing the origins of a lot of Phil's sounds and musical styles. The production was surprisingly in-line with his later releases, but the songwriting and singing was pretty lackluster. Songs like Eyes for Volume and Anacortes Has a Secret Love were good stand out tracks. Most other songs are just forgettable, besides the song Soundwaves which sounded like a shitty Nine Inch Nails song and is EASILY Eleverum's worst song I've heard. Terror Twilight is a strange one in Pavements discography, and not like a Wowee Zowee strange either. It doesn't feel a whole lot like Pavement, and that's because it isn't really. This album was controlled entirely by Stephen Malkmus during a time where the band faced a lot of tension with each other. The last part is hard to tell when listening to a song like Carrot Rope, but it really made the album hell to record. The album eventually led to the demise of Pavement as well.
